Screening on the evening of September 25^th 2021

Remenber that we have returned to holding JAFWA sessions starting at 5:15PM. Mainly due to our old enemy the sun, trying to once more take ascendency in the sky. The Equinox will have passed, amd nights grow shorter than the daylight.

Our formal poll of regarding our grand experiment of starting (and ending) an hour earlier in May through Augusthas passed 19 to 2.

This being the last JAFWA session in August, expect usual end of month Survey during the Dinner Break this week. There will be a few new timeslots opening in the program starting next month, and the surveys help the JAFWA committe decide upon what to put on.
Followed by the monthly Member’s Prize draw.

This week, 2 of our regular series finish (though Attack on Titan still has part B of the final season to come out).
This week we will also preview another anime series from Japan, and witness how burn-out affects actors in a children’s TV show.

Annual General Meeting resolutions

Resolutions that occurred during the AGM on July 17^th include:

1. Experiment with earlier hours during the coldest part of Winter. We changed the bookings for August for this trial, now completed. – Resolution 19 to 2 that we should have 1 hour earlier starting next May through to August.
2. Have a celebratory Dinner for the JAFWA committee members and general members, to be held on the evening of Saturday December 18^th 2021, in lieu of a screening.
3. New mascot design – will try asking at the next Artist’s Alley.
4. Tell people they can sponsor an anime night.

We will be attempting to implement these as soon as practical.

Currently we are looking for suggestions for a location for the dinner, and we are taking expressions of interest for attendees.
We will need to make the booking by the end of October, so places and attendance by then.

JAFWA member Roy has submitted an interesting design for the logo which is under review. Any other budding artists at JAFWA who want to gives it a try?

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

• November 4^th to 7^th 2021 — Japanese Film Festival in Perth. Keep checking the JFF web-site for more details, the full program will be will be announced on September 16.
• November 20^th 2021 — JAFWA next Event Afternoon, where we have the Hall from 1PM for “make your own fun”. Perhaps work of cosplay for Kaicon the week after?

Fruits Basket – final season

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when stressed or grasped by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode: “I Hope It Snows Soon ” season 3

Student President Yuki (the Rat) is worried about fellow student council member Machi, who is absent from school, and pays a visit to her. In the occasion, he learns more about her as their bond deepens.

Shadows House (Shadou Hausu)

In a grandiose and dark mansion, the denizens of the Shadow House live, attended by their Living Doll partners who endlessly clean the soot their masters emit. Emilico, a young and cheerful Living Doll, is delighted to start serving her mistress Kate. As the two grow closer and are slowly exposed to various events within the House, they start to discover a number of dark secrets.

Tonight’s Episode: “Outside the Room”

Emilico is assigned to a cleaning squad with three other Dolls: Mia, Lou and Rosemary, discovering the existence of many other Dolls like herself that constantly work to keep the Shadows House clean and are explicitly instructed to “not fret over trivial matters”. While cleaning Kate’s room, she accidentally ruins a precious stuffed doll, causing Kate to get angry. In desperation to be useful to her master, Emilico works extra hard to fix the doll.

31-year-old Uramichi Omota has two sides to his personality. He appears as the young man in charge of physical exercises on the educational program “Maman to Together.” Although he has a fresh and upbeat demeanor on the show, he is actually a bit emotionally unstable, he can’t help but reveal his jaded, worn-out personality.

Former gymnast Uramichi-san is the beloved host on a live children’s TV show. He is also a chain-smoking, binge-drinking emotional burn-out who despises his lifestyle, treats his coworkers terribly, and goes off-script with the children while on-air. Can he find happiness? Or at least passion? The show must go on.

I’m a Spider, So What? (Kuma desu ga, nanika)

After a Japanese classroom was destroyed by a mysterious explosion all the students reincarnated as humans on a fantasy world except for a female student who had the lowest reputation on the classroom, she was reincarnated as a spider monster. Being the weakest monster on the dungeon she need to survive using all her human intellect and courage.

Tonight’s Episode: “You’re Rebelling? I’m, Self-Deprecating ”

Glorying in the Surface World, Nameless comes across a carriage being attacked by bandits and comes to their aid. However, after defeating the attackers, she notices one of the occupants, a vampire baby named Sophia, is a fellow reincarnation. Jealous of how easy she has it, Nameless departs but then notices a group of elves planning to kidnap the baby. Fifteen years later, Sue suddenly kills her father, the king, and frames Shun.

retro – Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

Utena Tenjou, a teenage girl who expresses her desire to be a prince through her strong-willed personality and tomboyish manner of dress. She finds herself drawn into a series of sword duels at Ohtori Academy, to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the “Rose Bride” who possesses the “power to revolutionize the world”.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Barefoot Girl ”

Utena realizes what she has denied for a long time: she has fallen in love with Akio. As Akio’s courtship of her becomes both overt and subtly sinister, Utena agonizes over loving an engaged adult and feels like she is betraying her prince — and Anthy.

Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”) – season 2

In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Ashen Reaper ”

Victor reveals to Company 8 that he is a Haijima spy, but they already know this. He divulges Haijima’s plan to capture Shinra which Victor sees as an opportunity to further investigate their link to the Evangelist. Shinra agrees to accompany Victor to Haijima, while Company 8 prepares to back him up. Meanwhile at Haijima Industries, experiments on promising children continue, this time with Nataku Son who was ignited by Rekka Hoshimiya’s insect. Will Shinra be able to deal with his childhood bully?

Urasekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic)

College student Sorawo Kamikoshi has been exploring the strange dream-like world she calls the Otherside ever since she stumbled upon it during her days as an urban explorer, but her most recent trip has gotten her into serious trouble. That’s when she meets Toriko Nishina, a strange young woman searching the Otherside for her missing friend. Toriko helps Sorawo out of her predicament, and Sorawo falls into helping Toriko in her mission. But each journey into the Otherside brings strange new dangers and skills, and Sorawo isn’t sure that the search is worth it.

Tonight’s Episode: “Sorawo and Toriko ” finale

The Marines catch up with Sorawo and Toriko and everyone open fire on Kakandara, which has no effect thanks to her transformation. Toriko then hits her with an armored vehicle thanks to Sorawo’s distraction.

Vivy – Fluorite Eyes Song

A songstress AI named Vivy is given the mission of making people happy with her songs, and works to one day take the main stage of the amusement park where she works. However, she encounters another AI named Matsumoto who claims to have been sent from 100 years in the future in order to prevent a destructive war between humans and AIs, starting Vivy’s 100-year journey to save the world.

This evening’s Episode: “Quarter Note – The Beginning of the One Hundred-Year Journey ”

Matsumoto informs Vivy of the dire consequences that Aikawa’s death, as well as the imminent destruction of the AI company building they are currently trying to escape, would jumpstart a massive leap in AI development and evolution that will lead to the future war. Saving Aikawa’s life means there will be no chance the AI Naming law will be passed. Vivy rescues Aikawa and attempts to escort him out of the building with Toak in pursuit.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part 1

Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline
.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Sole Salvation ” and “Above and Below ”

As a child, Zeke was treated harshly by his parents, as Dina and Grisha saw him as a tool in their plans to restore Eldian society and overthrow Marley. One day, Zeke encountered Tom Xaver, the current holder of the Beast Titan, and over the years, they developed a close bond. As Zeke finishes reflecting on his past, he suddenly ignites the Thunder Spear impaled in his body, detonating it and catching Levi by surprise. Hange and Floch’s group is heading towards the forest when they hear the explosion of the Thunder Spear and decide to investigate. The Marley attack draws closer.
