Event Afternoon and Screening on Saturday 28^th August 2021

Event Afternoon before JAFWA Screening

It has been 3 months since the last one. JAFWA has the hall from about 12:00PM to 3:30PM, where it is make our own amusement time.

Does anybody have their own game machine and games they want their fellow JAFWAites to play? JAFWA will bring out the projector and screen, and see if your game machine can plug into it. I am not certain we have access to the outdoor area, but we will try to keep you off the street.
In the past people have brought along video games and the hardware to play them, and sewing machines for cosplay creating. What do you want to do? Just so long as it fun, legal, ethical, and we don’t scuff the floor of the Hall.

Early Screening on the late afternoon and evening of August 28^th 2021

This month we are experimenting with holding the JAFWA sessions an hour earlier, to counteract the cold Winter.

So remember to turn up for a 4:15 start! During the month of August only. Next month we go back to the normal 5:15PM start.

This being the last JAFWA session in August, expect usual end of month Survey during the Dinner Break this week. There will be a few new timeslots opening in the program starting next month, and the surveys help the JAFWA committe decide upon what to put on.
Followed by the monthly Member’s Prize draw.

This week will be the final episode of “Ascendance of a Bookworm”. A pleasant little isekai show, that did not suffer from being overpowered in the fantasy department.

Annual General Meeting resolutions

Resolutions that occurred during the AGM on July 17^th include:

1. Experiment with earlier hours during the coldest part of Winter. We have changed the bookings for August for this trial.
2. Have a celebratory Dinner for the JAFWA committee members and general members, to be held on the evening of Saturday December 18^th 2021, in lieu of a screening.
3. New mascot design – will try asking at the next Artist’s Alley.
4. Tell people they can sponsor an anime night.
5. Obtain new mascot design.

We will be attempting to implement these as soon as practical.

Currently we are looking for suggestions for a location for the dinner, and we are taking expressions of interest for attendees.
We will need to make the booking by the end of October, so places and attendance by then.

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiraremasen)

The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again.

This evening’s Episode: “Dreamlike World ” season 2 finale

As penance for his transgression, Ferdinand has Shikza heal and replenish the area due to the events of the battle. When he is unable to do so, Myne steps in and completes the healing ritual, shocking the entire Knight’s Order and renewing their faith in her. Upon returning to the city of Ehrenfest, Myne asks for a new set of ceremonial robes since hers were damaged, as well as a lenient sentencing for Damuel since he tried to help her.

That Time I Was Re-incarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) season 2

37-year-old Satoru Mikami died at the hands of a robber, he awakens to a fresh start in a new world…as the lowest of the low – a slime monster. Odd Taxi

Set in a world of anthropomorphic animals, it follows the story of Odokawa, a 41-year old Walrus taxi driver shown to have no relatives and does not have much to do with others. But he usually has conversations with other animal inhabitants that ride in his taxi on their way home. With Odokawa having those conversations with several people, they may give him some leads to a high school girl who has disappeared several days ago.

This evening’s Episode: “Borrowed Plumes and the Bodyguard”

At the sauna, Kakihana accidentally overhears a phone call between Yakuza lieutenant Kuroda and gunman Dobu about the missing girl case. Later, Dobu tries to blackmail Odokawa into giving up information on the girl and who might have kidnapped her, but Odokawa refuses to play along.

I’m a Spider, So What? (Kuma desu ga, nanika)

After a Japanese classroom was destroyed by a mysterious explosion all the students reincarnated as humans on a fantasy world except for a female student who had the lowest reputation on the classroom, she was reincarnated as a spider monster. Being the weakest monster on the dungeon she need to survive using all her human intellect and courage.

Tonight’s Episode: “Next Time, Is the Big Battle? ”

As Shun feels uneasy about replacing Julius as the Hero, Fei convinces him to form a pact with her, enabling him to summon her if he is in danger. However, this causes Fei to evolve and revert into an egg while the process is underway. Back in the past, due to Taboo reaching level 10, Nameless gained access to a vast amount of information, including the knowledge the world is heading toward an apocalypse.

retro – Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

Utena Tenjou, a teenage girl who expresses her desire to be a prince through her strong-willed personality and tomboyish manner of dress. She finds herself drawn into a series of sword duels at Ohtori Academy, to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the “Rose Bride” who possesses the “power to revolutionize the world”.

Tonight’s Episode: “Nanami’s Egg ”

Nanami wakes up one day and finds an egg in her bed and assumes she must have laid it. She frets over what to do with it and finally decides to raise it as her own.

Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”) – season 2

In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.

Tonight’s Episode: “Dark Hero ”

The Fire Force team report their discoveries to Captain Obi. They explain the connections between Amaterasu and the Adolla Burst, which draws into question the teachings of the Holy Sol Temple and implies a connection with the Evangelist. Meanwhile, in his search for the truth, Victor solves the numerical codes from the Tabernacle. Joker asks the proto-nationalist Benimaru Shinmon if he will go against the Holy Sol Temple to discover the truth about what they are hiding and Shinmon surprisingly agrees.

Urasekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic)

College student Sorawo Kamikoshi has been exploring the strange dream-like world she calls the Otherside ever since she stumbled upon it during her days as an urban explorer, but her most recent trip has gotten her into serious trouble. That’s when she meets Toriko Nishina, a strange young woman searching the Otherside for her missing friend. Toriko helps Sorawo out of her predicament, and Sorawo falls into helping Toriko in her mission. But each journey into the Otherside brings strange new dangers and skills, and Sorawo isn’t sure that the search is worth it.

Tonight’s Episode: “How to Get to the Barbeque Restaurant by Elevator ”

Sorawo receives a call from Toriko inviting her to a Japanese barbeque restaurant along with Kozakura and Akari. Once Sorawo arrives there, she and Toriko have a conversation. Akari then calls to let them know that she got off on a weird floor inside the building. When she claims to see them, Sorawo realizes that Akari is at the In-Between.

Wonder Egg Priority

Avoiding school, Ai scores a “Wonder Egg” from a gachapon machine at a deserted arcade. But now when Ai falls asleep a girl emerges from her Wonder Egg, the worlds of dreams and reality begin to collide. And it’s all connected.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Terms of Friendship ”

Ai meets Neiru Aonuma, another girl buying eggs from Acca and Ura-Acca’s garden, but Neiru has no interest in befriending her. In Ai’s next dream, she is tasked with protecting Minami Suzuhara, a young gymnast who committed suicide after enduring abuse from her coach.

Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World (Ri:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) season 2

Slacker Subaru has been mysteriously transported into a fantasy world, and involved in the politics of royal ascension, and magical terrorist expression. After learning more behind the Death Loop and Witches of Sin, Subaru vows to save Emilia and his friends from further doom.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Sounds That Make You Want to Cry”

Satella confronts Subaru and tells him he should love himself more. However, hearing this by the person responsible for his suffering causes him to snap, ranting about how his life doesn’t matter before attempting suicide to get out of the situation. However, Minerva revives him and Carmilla reminds him of how people grieved for him in the second trial, causing him to second guess himself.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part 1

Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline

Tonight’s Episode: “Guides ”

Yelena reveals to Commander Pyxis that ten months ago, she had secretly met with Eren before his infiltration on Marley. Elsewhere, Onyankopon tells Hange how Yelena was fiercely loyal to Zeke in Marley, and he confesses that no other Volunteer knew about her secret. Mikasa and Armin meet with Premier Zachary to get permission to speak with Eren. Zachary denies them as he suspects Eren of colluding with the Volunteers and of being manipulated by Zeke.
