Come all ye wonderful (yet masked) JAFWA members, for this is the final week to nominate for the upcoming annual JAFWA election (see below) and join the committee, in order to steer JAFWA towards its glorious future. Decide upon your election strategies, such as suggesting that there are too many isekai shows in the current program. Nominees will be invited to the next JAFWA committee meeting to see how it is done.
Though, thanks to WA fighting off the Pandemic, there won’t be much in the way of limitations on how many people can attend JAFWA this week. There is less need to advise that you arrive early to ensure one of our numerous seats (or even one of the bean bags). We are being optimistic that West Australians will avoid further lockdowns (however facemasks and sanitising will still be required).
It will be the usual program, minus one regular item to allow us to preview a first episode of a new and interesting anime. Inadvertent time travel to prevent a tragedy and defeat crime.
Japanese 2022 calendars are starting to show up on pre-order. Anybody interested in doing a bulk order this year?
Annual General Meeting and Elections
Being an incorporated club, JAFWA is required to hold annual elections, which will be occurring on July 17th.
Anyone can nominated to enter the elections, so long as they are:
- A fully registered and paid up member of JAFWA for 3 months before the election.
- Resident of WA.
If you haven’t done so before, being involved in a non-for-profit organisational committee is a great way to learn some new skills and be a part of something great. The JAFWA committee hopes to see you at the AGM to discuss the progress of your club, and looks forward to any new blood and ideas for the future of JAFWA.
Covid-19 Safety Precautions
We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiraremasen)
The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again.
This evening’s Episode: “The Path Ahead of Lutz ” season 2
After being refused to travel with Benno to another town for work, Lutz runs away from home, cuts off all contact with his family, and starts living in the attic of Benno’s shop. After Myne recovers from her illness, she goes to the office and discovers that Benno is considering adopting Lutz as his son so that he can devote his life to the business. At the temple, the ordeal affects Myne’s work with the High Priest.
That Time I Was Re-incarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) season 2
37-year-old Satoru Mikami died at the hands of a robber, he awakens to a fresh start in a new world…as the lowest of the low – a slime monster. Cells at Work season 2 (Hataraku Saib?)
The world is a dangerous place for a red blood cell just trying to get her deliveries finished. Fortunately, she’s not alone… she’s got a whole human body’s worth of cells ready to help out. The mysterious white blood cell, the buff and brash killer T cell, the nerdy neuron, even the cute little platelets — everyone’s got to come together if they want to keep you healthy.
This evening’s Episode: “Cancer Cell II (Part I)”
Normal Cell, AE3083, and the platelets continue to evacuate. Memory T Cell remembers Cancer Cell’s techniques, giving his team the advantage, but they are shocked when Regulatory T Cell defends Cancer Cell, believing he is a Normal Cell that needs to be protected. Normal Cell is cornered by harmful bacteria.
I’m a Spider, So What? (Kuma desu ga, nanika)
After a Japanese classroom was destroyed by a mysterious explosion all the students reincarnated as humans on a fantasy world except for a female student who had the lowest reputation on the classroom, she was reincarnated as a spider monster. Being the weakest monster on the dungeon she need to survive using all her human intellect and courage.
Tonight’s Episode: “Does Catfish, Taste Good? ”
Nameless is at a disadvantage against the new monsters as they are all able to burn her webs. Finding a safe area she evolves into a Small Poison Taratect for the more potent venom. Using skill points she also purchases the ability Pride, as it allows her to level up faster but also unlocks unholy and dark magic abilities she is unsure about. At the academy, Shun is impressed with Fei’s progress as she has evolved several times and they are both more popular after the defeat of the Earth Dragon.
retro – Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)
Utena Tenjou, a teenage girl who expresses her desire to be a prince through her strong-willed personality and tomboyish manner of dress. She finds herself drawn into a series of sword duels at Ohtori Academy, to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the “Rose Bride” who possesses the “power to revolutionize the world”.
Tonight’s Episode: “Troublesome Insects ”
Nanami’s lackeys Keiko, Aiko and Yuko all have crushes on Touga, and that is the reason that they submit to her every whim. When Nanami forbids Keiko to go to a school party, Keiko accidentally finds Touga in the forest and shares her umbrella with him.
Urasekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic)
College student Sorawo Kamikoshi has been exploring the strange dream-like world she calls the Otherside ever since she stumbled upon it during her days as an urban explorer, but her most recent trip has gotten her into serious trouble. That’s when she meets Toriko Nishina, a strange young woman searching the Otherside for her missing friend. Toriko helps Sorawo out of her predicament, and Sorawo falls into helping Toriko in her mission. But each journey into the Otherside brings strange new dangers and skills, and Sorawo isn’t sure that the search is worth it.
Tonight’s Episode: “Station February ”
After Sorawo and Toriko hold an “apology dinner” for Kozakura at a restaurant in Ikebukuro, tipst Sorawo and Toriko accidentally stumble into the otherworld. During the dangerous night that they have always avoided. As Sorawo and Toriko stumble across some train tracks, they are saved by Lieutenant Drake leading some United States Marines from the Pale Horse Battalion, stationed in Okinawa until they somehow shifted into the Otherside.

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his six-years-younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.
This evening’s Episode: “Reborn ”
Takemichi Hanagaki is a little burnt out. He has not been doing well in his part-time job and has fallen victim to the bullying of the neighborhood delinquents. While watching television one day, he finds out that the girl he used to date was killed along with her brother by a criminal gang.
On his way home, he is pushed onto the track and in the path of an oncoming train. The last thing on his minds was Hinata Tachibana. When he regains consciousness he realized that he has traveled 12 years back to the past.
Re:Zero ? Starting Life in Another World (Ri:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) season 2
Slacker Subaru has been mysteriously transported into a fantasy world, and involved in the politics of royal ascension, and magical terrorist expression. After learning more behind the Death Loop and Witches of Sin, Subaru vows to save Emilia and his friends from further doom.
Tonight’s Episode: “The Value of Life”
Despite Otto and Ram insisting they flee, Subaru decides to first confront Roswaal about Beatrice. Roswaal reveals that what Beatrice has is not a gospel but one of two Tomes of Wisdom, books that tell their reader their future, and that Subaru need only tell her that he is “that person”, much to his confusion. Garfiel then finds them, forcing Subaru to flee on his land dragon, Patrasche. It is not that easy.
Moriarty the Patriot (Y?koku no Mori?ti)
James Moriarty is an orphan who assumes the name William James Moriarty when he and his younger brother are adopted into the Moriarty family. As a young man, he seeks to remove the ills caused by England’s strict class system.
Tonight’s Episode: “The ‘Noahtic’ Act 2 ”
Moriarty pretends to believe Blitz’s lie that he killed Thomas in self-defense and offers to cover up the crime. Together they throw Thomas into the sea, though Fred and Sebastien secretly retrieve the body. The next night, during an onboard ballet, William approaches Blitz and reveals that Thomas is somehow alive. Blitz chases after Thomas through the ship, really Fred in disguise, intending to kill him again, only to be confronted with Thomas’ corpse.
Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part 1
Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline

Tonight’s Episode: “Assault ”
In a flashback prior to Willy’s declaration of war on Paradis, he farewells his family and discusses with Commander Magath the probability of an attack at the ceremony, although Willy is prepared to become a martyr in support of his cause. In the present, the Attack Titan devours Willy and continues its rampage, devastating the Marleyan military brass. As the other titans enter the fray, the Survey Corps appear with their anti-titan techniques.
