Screening on Saturday 17th October 2020

We continue the countdown to JAFWA’s 30th Aniversary celebrations. Rejoice!
The screenings continue here at JAFWA.

This month’s preview episodes of anime commence, as we attempt to bring appreciation of the wide variety of Japanese anime. There is far more anime produced in Japan than we could ever hope to show at JAFWA, even if we each and every week we only showed a single episode of a different anime, never repeating a single title. So by some careful curation, and some timely suggestions from our membership, we try and present some of the better anime titles we are aware of, during these preview slots.
Though I sometimes worry that sometimes we skew your perception of anime through our choice of “best” anime. Should we balance it out by previewing the less good titles? (please do not agree to that suggestion – please.)

JAFWA’s 30th Aniversary is quickly approaching, and a reminder that we may still have a limited number of tickets for an authentic Japanese Tea Ceremony on the day. Buy your $10 ticket early! as they are going fast. President Drew may still have some to sell this week.

As a side note, quite a few people seem to think 2020 is not a very good year. Be aware that we have entered the new calendar season, and some Japanese calendars have been listed already, such as here and here. I have already taken an order. Do you also want to be cheered up by 2021?

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible second wave of Corona, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
Help would be welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19. Set Up begins ~4:45pm, while the Screening should begin at 5:15pm, or later should the set-up not yet be complete. Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. And we need to wipe the chairs down before they are stacked away.
