Hopefully we won’t have another blowy weather as we did last week on International Talk Like A Pirate Day, which caused us to shiver our timbers a little. Though it did add the correct atmospherics at one point, during the Eizouken episode.
So rejoice that the screenings continue here at JAFWA.
As we await the upcoming anime season starting in October, we preview another episode suggested by one of our dear JAFWAites, from the monthly Survey. Which should remond us that this month’s Survey (and Monthly Member’s Prize draw) is also happening this week. Don’t miss it!
And we also have the second instalment of the Psycho-Pass movie trilogy.
JAFWA’s 30th anniversary is quickly approaching, and a reminder that we still have a limited number of tickets for a Japanese Tea Ceremony on the day. Buy your ticket early! President Drew will be selling them this week.
As a side note, quite a few people seem to think 2020 is not a very good year. Be aware that we have entered the new calendar season, and some Japanese calendars have been listed already, such as here and here. I have already taken an order. Do you also want to be cheered up by 2021?
We continue taking precautions to limit the possible second wave of Corona, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
Help would be welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19. Set Up begins ~4:45pm, while the Screening should begin at 5:15pm, or later should the set-up not yet be complete. Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. And we need to wipe the chairs down before they are stacked away.

Eizoukan niwa Te o Dasu na! (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!)
Midori, Tsubame, and Sayaka are an energetic trio of first-year high school girls who come together in the Eizouken (Video Research Club) to turn their anime dreams into a reality. Midori is nervous to create an anime alone. She meets Tsubame who appears to be a well-to-do girl but she really has artistic dreams of being an animator. Midori’s best friend Sayaka has the financial sense to bring the project to fruition and joins the pair on their quest.
Tonight’s Episode: “Let’s Do Better Than Last Time! ”
After Eizouken’s success with their first anime short, they find themselves with triple the time for their giant robot anime, but also triple the work. Kanamori mentions that the Art Club is now interested in helping them draw backgrounds, and she convinced the IT Club to sell her a computer for cheap instead of having to use the school’s computer lab.

Having been inspired by the character designs of a particular video game when she was younger, Aoba Suzukaze, a high school graduate, begins working as a character designer for the game’s developer, Eagle Jump. As she works on modelling and designing characters for games in development, she becomes acquainted with her colleagues in the character design department, as well as those from across the company.
Tonight’s Episode: “It Actually Feels Like I Started My Job”
Aoba Suzukaze, a high school graduate, begins her new job at the Eagle Jump video game company, where she is introduced to art director Rin Touyama, lead character designer Ko Yagami, and game director Shizuku Hazuki. As Aoba learns how to make 3D models, she receives help from fellow character designer.
Dr Stone
Typical student Taiju Oki tells his science-loving friend Senku Ishigami that he will confess his feelings to their classmate Yuzuriha Ogawa. He prepares to make his confession to Yuzuriha under a camphor tree on the school grounds, but his attempt is interrupted when a bright light appears in the sky. Taiju pushes Yuzuriha to the tree to protect her as the light petrifies them along with the entire human population. After 3700 years spent trapped in stone, Senku and Taiju are somehow revived from their petrified state six months apart in what they now call the Stone World.
This evening’s Episode: “The Age of Energy”
Senku and Ishigami Village begin work on the cell phone, planning to complete its construction by spring. In order to manufacture gold filaments for wiring, Senku creates a cotton candy machine to test with sugar. Senku brings cotton candy to Homura, who has been spying on the Kingdom of Science.
Somali and the Forest Spirit (Somari to Mori no Kamisama)
The world is ruled by spirits, goblins, and all manner of strange creatures. Human beings are persecuted, to the very point of extinction. One day, a golem and a lone human girl meet. This is a record of the pair, one a member of a ruined race, the other a watchman of the forest. It tells of their travels together and of the bond between father and daughter.
This evening’s Episode: “Dying Flowers Look Up at the Birds ”
As they search for the kidnapped Somali, Haitora tells Golem that he and Uzoi were informed my a strange soothsayer that his tainted blood would be cured by finding “new, clean blood”, so Uzoi intends to take Somali’s. Elsewhere, Somali manages to escape from Uzoi’s grasp, but falls into an underground pond.
Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”)
In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.
Tonight’s Episode: “The Secrets of Pyrokinesis ”
Karim and Konro visit Company 8’s firehouse to share information with Obi and Hibana about the Knights of the Ashen Flame whome they call White-Clad. Meanwhile, Victor Licht encounters Joker while gathering evidence from around Vulcan’s workshop following the fight against Sho, and they discuss Shinra’s fire powers.
Isekai Quartet season 2
One day, a magic button suddenly appears. The protagonists in KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil all press the button and move to a parallel world — another brand new isekai — where a new story featuring high school life begins. Now new characters arrive
Tonight’s Episode: “It Begins! School Festival” and “The Show Begins! Showtime”
As the school festival begins, Seiya Ryuguin and Ristarte from the anime Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious arrive, but the overly cautious Seiya refuses to enter the unfamiliar school. Destroyer attacks the school, but Roswaal refuses to let Classes 1 and 2 fight it until their plays are done.
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)
Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.
Tonight’s Episode: “Pretend Family ”
Tanjiro collapses from his wounds and crawls towards Nezuko, who has fallen and isn’t moving. He smells blood behind him and realizes he normally smells ash when demons were killed by his sword. Rui stands and puts his head back on.
Darwin’s Game (Daawinzu Geemu)
17-year old Kaname Sudou accepts an online invitation by a friend to play an app game called Darwin’s Game, unbeknownst to him that it involves a fight between life and death. Those who play the game are given a Sigil, an ability that varies from player to player. Trapped in this game of relentless murder and conquest, Kaname determines to clear the game, and seek out and kill the Game Master.
Tonight’s Episode: “Heads Up ”
Kaname and Danjo have their match and despite having full use of his Sigil, none of his attacks made Danjo even use his Sigil. If Kaname can force Dango to use his Sigil, then Kaname is a capable leader and Dango’s clan can form an alliance with Kaname’s newly-formed clan, Sunset Ravens. However, the top player of Darwin’s Game seeks to interrupt this.
Movie – Psycho Pass: Sinners of the System part 1
In a future where the psychological profiling system Sybil determines your place in society, or your removal for the good of society, new police force recruit Akane Tsunemori finds herself facing both the challenge of catching madmen loose in the city, and of working alongside those deemed half mad already. All the while dealing with the consequences of a society that will lock you up or kill you for thinking bad thoughts…
Tonight’s Movie: “First Guardian ”
Enforcer Teppei Sugo, who was formerly a respected military officer. He acted as the eye-in-the-sky air support for a ground squad of marines alongside Itsuki Otomo, another pilot and a communications officer. Together, they formed a tight military family, including Itsuki’s wife Rin who was the squad’s ground commander. During a military strike outside Japan, strange orders force Teppei to abandon his military unit, resulting in unanswered questions and rising stress….
