Screening on Saturday 15th August 2020

The JAFWA screenings continue throughout August.
Though I feel like I let down the team by not properly celebrating Patlabor Day on August 10th. Do you know where you Ingrams are?

Still the excitment continues at JAFWA, as we start another regular series this week, the oft requested “Eizouken”. With a bonus of two different preview episodes to tantalise your anime palate.

Eizouken Gun Frontier Fairy Gone

As a side note, quite a few people seem to think 2020 is not a very good year. Be aware that we are approaching the new calendar season, and a few Japanese calendars have been pre-listed already, such as here and here. Do you want to be cheered up by 2021?

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible second wave of Corona, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
Help would be welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19. Set Up begins ~4:45pm, while the Screening should begin at 5:15pm, or later should the set-up not yet be complete. Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. And we need to wipe the chairs down before they are stacked away.

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode:Wait for Me, Tororo Soba!

With the start of the summer break, Tohru and the Sohma boys head to the department store for shopping and to check out a new attraction at Momiji’s behest. Meanwhile Arisa (Tohru’s delinquent classmate) meets up with Kureno Sohma (who has a strange releationship with the Zodiac curse) by coincidence, the pair having previously met once before at the convenience store she works at. They head to a diner for some tororo soba to catch up, though Arisa’s feelings for Kureno become twisted when he remarks their first meeting happened only because he was in the area unnecessarily.

Midori, Tsubame, and Sayaka are an energetic trio of first-year high school girls who come together in the Eizouken (Video Research Club) to turn their anime dreams into a reality. Midori is nervous to create an anime alone. She meets Tsubame who appears to be a well-to-do girl but she really has artistic dreams of being an animator. As the trio regroups in a nearby laundromat, Asakusa discovers that Mizusaki also has a dream of creating anime, though her parents disapprove.

He prepares to make his confession to Yuzuriha under a camphor tree on the school grounds, but his attempt is interrupted when a bright light appears in the sky. Taiju pushes Yuzuriha to the tree to protect her as the light petrifies them along with the entire human population.
