It is the last Saturday in September. The last time this year that JAFWA will operate in Winter hours. The last time this year under Winter Hours that JAFWA will have our monthly survey and member’s prize draw.
Yes, you too can hope to influence the direction of JAFWA by filling in our survey form during the Dinner Break. Inform us what anime titles shown at JAFWA are most important to you, so that it might help filter through the large number of anime titles coming out of Japan as we attempt to decide what preview episode to screen in future.
And never forget the monthly member’s prize – the more times you attend, the more chances to win!

Your beloved JAFWA committee is still re-arranging the program for the rest of the year so that as few as possible regular series are forced to take a long break over the end of year. This may result in a few nights where we screen more than one episode of a particular series. Enjoy!

While Tokyo Underground may have been forced to shutdown in Perth, Bronwyn still has plenty of stock and an urge to keep the shop open. So she has just opened up a neat and tidy (dare I say cute) little stall 50 at the Wanneroo Weekend Markets on Prindiville Drive in Wangara. Come check it out on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (and Public Holidays).

If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like Lindsay did in March, and the one coming in November, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan in advance please.

And there is the end of year irregular screening to consider. What do you want to see in it?

‘Tis Time for “Torture,” Princess (Hime-sama Goumon mo Jikan desu)

In an ongoing battle between the humanity’s Imperial Army and the demonic Hell-hordes, the princess from the army has been captured along with her holy sword Ex. Since regular torture is prohibited by the prisoner of war treaty between the two parties, the grand inquisitor, Torture Tortura, employs unusual “torture” (in air quotes) techniques.

This evening’s Episode: “episode 7“

Krall “tortures” the princess by placing a sleeping cat on the Princess’s lap, and her legs fall asleep. She confesses to have the cat removed, without awakening the cat. The princess gets invited to watch the school Mao-Mao’s attends field day. Princess cannot believe that the threatening figure playing with Mao-Mao is the Hell-Lord, who she knows as the greatest enemy of humanity.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sousou no Furiiren)

For ten years, elf mage Frieren traveled with Himmel the hero, Heiter the priest, and Eisen the dwarf warrior as they quested to destroy the demon king. At the end of their journey, Frieren set out on her own, not quite understanding how differently time flows for her versus her human companions. Reunited after fifty years only to see them wither and die, Frieren begins to ponder the nature of connections at a time when it’s already too late to say goodbye.

This evening’s Episodes: “Well-Laid Plans” and “Necessary Killing“

Fern and her party consisting of Übel and Land manage to catch a Stille and decide to lay back due to the threat from other mages who may want to steal their bird. After discussing with Kanne and Lawine, Frieren hatches a plan. They decide to freeze the lake within the testing grounds while infusing smaller pools of water with mana. Because the Stille are very sensitive to mana, leaving a single pool uncontaminated ensures that the Stille will flock to it by default when they are thirsty. Unfortunately other teams of mages seek to steal captured birds. Is the First Class mages title something worth killing over? Serie, the leader of the Continental Mages Association, has promised that anyone who achieves the First Class title will be granted any one spell they request from her if she is capable of providing it.

Spice and Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf (“Ookami to Koushinryou: merchant meets the wise wolf”)

The life of a traveling merchant is a lonely one, a fact with which Kraft Lawrence is well acquainted. Wandering from town to town with just his horse, cart, and whatever wares have come his way, the peddler has pretty well settled into his routine—that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess asleep in his cart. She strikes up a bargain with the merchant to lend him the cunning of “Holo the Wisewolf” to increase his profits in exchange for taking her along on his travels. Lawrence soon learns, though, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be a bit of a mixed blessing.

Tonight’s Episode: “Bird Feather and Mysterious Ore“

Without disturbing Holo, Lawrence is looking into old stories and legends from the North, as he vaguely recalls a mention of Yoitsu that he seeks to verify. His best bet seems to be a runaway heretic. Holo will have to endure not being escorted by Lawrence about the festival for the day. Fate will tell.

Bye Bye, Earth (“Bai Bai, Aasu”)

Despite having incredible fighting skills and the strength to wield the enormous sword Runding, Belle Lablac has grown up as an outcast due to being the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Desperate to find a place where she belongs, she goes on a quest to find others like her.

Tonight’s Episode: “Farewell to Those Who Play the Land“

Sian, who barely survived his duel with Belle, meets a woman about repairing his sword and they discuss how Belle is destined for great things. Belle defeats Kir Royale in their duel by breaking his flaming sword. The king accepts her and says her next test is to learn to turn her curse into a blessing. While she sleeps, the rabbit takes on a more humanoid form and finds the troublemakers from before plotting revenge on Belle.

Go! Go! Loser Ranger! (“Sentai Daishikkaku”)

Thirteen years ago, the Villainous Army of Evil attempted to invade Earth, faced by the Super Sentai squadron known as the Divine Dragon Rangers and their super weapons, the Divine Tools. The evil army, however, was defeated within a year, all of its Executives wiped out, and the surviving (and almost immortal) foot soldiers have been forced ever since to reenact their defeat to the Keepers in front of a crowd of spectators every Sunday. Until one foot soldier rebels.

Tonight’s Episode: “1 Plus 2 Equals… Threat!“

The disguised D begins training but is beat by the other trainees. XX, the female Duster, reminds him not to get friendly with the other trainees. At the final exam, they are told they will have to fight other Rangers acting as monsters and retrieve a key from them in three days.

KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!) season 3Kaiju No.8 (“Kaijou Hachigou”)

The story follows Kafka Hibino, who after ingesting a parasitic creature, gains the ability to turn into a kaiju, he must now navigate using his power while trying to become part of an organization that eliminates kaiju to fulfill a promise he made with a childhood friend. Now he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Kaiju Who Defeats Kaiju”

While Mina orders her squad to move to the location where a kaiju was reported, Kafka and Reno leave the hospital to hide from the Defense Force. As the duo is escaping, Kafka detects a Trichonephila yoju that emerges from the underground and attacks a nearby house, trapping a woman and her daughter.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru Made ni Shitai 100 no Koto)

Surviving a zombie apocalypse beats being a wage slave any day. After spending years slaving away for a soul-crushing company, Akira’s life has lost its luster. But when a zombie apocalypse ravages his town, it gives him the push he needs to live for himself. Now Akira’s on a mission to complete all 100 items on his bucket list before he…well, kicks the bucket.

Tonight’s Episode: “Best Friend of the Dead“

Shou and other survivors defend Club Shou-Time. Meanwhile, after Akira crosses growing a cool beard off his bucket list, he vows to find his friend Kencho. He then notices his phone has unread notifications. Elsewhere, Kencho is trapped at Club Shou-Time when he receives a call from Akira, who promises to meet him.

Chainsaw Man (Chenso Man)

In a world where Devils (Akuma) are born from human fears. Devils are usually dangerous and malevolent, their power is proportional to the fear they incite. However, humans can form contracts with them to use their power, and there are individuals specialising in hunting and employing them, called Devil Hunters. A Devil may, in certain conditions, inhabit the body of a dead human, gaining some of their memories and personality; such a creature is called a Fiend.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Arrival in Tokyo” and “Meowy’s Whereabouts“

Denji and Makima arrive at the Devil Hunters Headquarters in Tokyo after eating in the rest area. Denji wishes to team up with Makima, but she introduces him to Aki Hayakawa, a Public Safety Devil Hunter who takes Denji out on patrol. Later back in the headquarters, Makima introduces a new partner named Power and warns Denji that Power is a Fiend. Denji is surprised and wonders if Fiends can be Devil Hunters. They attract public attention, while Denji and Power start accusing each other when stopped by Makima. She tells them to work together and not to fall for more risks. Power tells him to defeat the Bat Devil, who kidnapped her pet cat Meowy, in exchange for allowing Denji to touch her breasts.
