JAFWA has returned to operating on Summer Hours – ie screening starts at ~5:15PM.

October comes to JAFWA, after we had a successful Bunnings sausage sizzle. Big round of cheer to our brilliant volunteers.

This week’s JAFWA program continues with the cultural goodness portrayed in anime.
And even though we will be showing two episodes of one series this week (where we see the work/life bliss between one who can’t be seen and one who can’t see), we will still include a preview episode of some other anime recently produced in Japan. This week we appease the people who have wanted more “Apothecary Diaries” with another tale set in similar historical Chinese-like palace with would-be imperial brides out-maneuvering each other until forbidden body-swap magic is used.

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like Lindsay, Elliot and Dale did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally have done, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

The manga club is coming together with some seat and effort to prepare the club room. Now to perform the training exercises that Teshima-sensei provides. But why is it Fujimori-san’s art that gets all the praise? What makes a manga interesting? But the powerful Stone Dragon of Comitia is coming.

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke (Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen Dai-San-Bu Ryuushu no Youjo) season 4

The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again. Now she has become Rosemyne, the adopted daughter of a Duke.

The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife (Toumei Otoko to Ningen Onna: Sonouchi Fuufu ni Naru Futari‘)

In a world where humans, demi-humans and monsters co-exist, Shizuka Yakou is a quiet and bashful woman who works at a small detective agency. In the year 11945 on a post-apocalyptic Earth abandoned by humanity. Earth has been occupied by aliens, who fight using an army of Machine Lifeforms. Androids, created by humans, fight against the Machine Lifeforms, with the conflict turning into a prolonged proxy war. The latest addition to the android forces is YoRHa, an elite android fighting force based in the orbital Bunker and communicating directly with the Council of Humanity on the Moon.

The Ghost in the Shell (Koukaku Kidoutai)

In a near future, technology has firmly taken root into society at large. Cybernetic implants are nothing uncommon and robots roam as plentiful as humans, all connected through their ”ghosts” to the electronic datastreams of the net. Major Motoko Kusanagi and the Public Security Section 9 find themselves in a constant battle with the newly created wave of technological terrorists and cyber-hackers.

Tonight’s Episode: “Robot Rondo“

In the midst of a rise in androids going berserk and attacking anybody in sight, Section 9 investigates a number of Tomliand model androids that went rogue. While the majority of berserk cases are written off as software malfunctions, Section 9 suspects the Tomliand model were specifically programmed to go berserk due to finding an “SOS” message written in blood inside their cyberbrains.
