No Screening this Saturday, 5th September 2026

No JAFWA screening until Saturday 12^th September 2026!

We here on the JAFWA committee put a bit of effort into presenting a cultural snapshot of Japan through the varied genres represented in anime, however on Saturday September 3^rd we are taking our once-a-month weekend off to refresh and fortify ourselves.
This weekend we let our wonderful attendees go forth into the world without the crutch of JAFWA to experience Life, though it tends to be organic and sticky. At least the weather has become pleasant. Mostly.
Though all is not necessarily lost on the anime front. Event cinemas will be screening the South Korean anime Your Letter at assorted cinemas. In the original Korean language with English subtitles as far as I can tell.

According the Bureau of Meteorology, when JAFWA returns in September it will be the season of Spring. Already the Japanese cherry tree on Collins Street has put forth Sakura blossoms.
Also, four new series should premiere, though what they are may not be known until minutes before the screening of the 12^th.

If you strongly feel that JAFWA is neglecting certain well-deserving anime, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Dates of Interest

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

• from Thursday August 27^th 2026 — Event cinemas will be screening the South Korean anime Your Letter at assorted cinemas. In the original Korean with English subtitles?
• September 7^th to 20^th 2026 — If perchance you are down South and unable to attend JAFWA, perhaps the various events that the South West Japan Festival might soothe you.
• Transformers Day September 17^th 2026 — To commemorate the 40^th anniversary of “Transformers the movie”, many cinemas will be showing a special 4K version. Ticket pre-sales start August 7^th.
• Saturday October 3^rd 2026 — JAFWA having a Bunnings BBQ fundraiser down at Cannington. Come for the sausage sizzle.
• Saturday October 31^st 2026 1pm->4:30 — JAFWA having another make your own fun Event Arvo in the Hall before JAFWA screening.
