Screening earlier on the evening of Saturday, 15^th August 2026.

This week JAFWA will be operating on Winter Hours – ie screening starts at ~4:15PM.

We continue screening during the month of August at JAFWA, I still have a question that needs to be asked – do you know where your Patlabor is? Yes, August 10^th has actually been designated as Patlabor Day for several years now, to commemorate the eponymous anime from 1988. We must find a way somehow to celebrate this August.

This week’s JAFWA program is starting to look a little different as another title in our current regular program comes to an end. Though we farewell “Roll Over and Die” know that two other new regular series are starting. Firstly a somewhat old series first introduced to us through a member’s sponsored evening, and the other an emergency item from the beginning of the year that we have finally found room for in the program.
All this and we have a preview episode that your MC hopes manages to get voted into the program at the end of this month. This preview episode will be a remake of an anime shown at JAFWA, but this time it follows the original manga more closely.

Anime is definitely going mainstream. Last year at the cinemas has been the “Demon Slayer” movie, followed by the “Chainsaw Man” movie, and then the “Jujitsu Kaisen” movie. This year there has been the “Zombieland Saga” movie, and a “Gundam” movie, and an unbelievably good “Scarlet”. Life is wonderful for anime fans.
What else will be showing up in cinemas? It sometimes seems that all the popular Japanese anime movies are coming.
Not to mention that Luna Leederville is putting anime films in their Monday Double Feature program and Thursday Tokyo Nights.

Who Made me a Princess? (In Japanese: Aru Hi, Ohime-sama ni Natteshimatta Ken ni Tsuite, in Korean: Eoneu Nal Gongjuga Doeeobeolyeossda, in Chinese: Mófaa Goungzhuu de Xiao Fánnao)

The story follows Athanasia de Alger Obelia, a young princess executed by her father, Claude de Alger Obelia, the cold-blooded emperor of the Obelian Empire. However, Athanasia is reincarnated as her baby-self and given a second chance at the same life. Athanasia must use all of her wit and cunning to survive in the palace and to prevent her own death.

This evening’s Episode: “Tea Party in the Rose Garden“

Princess Athanasia remains confused why Duke Alpheus didn’t introduce Jennette to Claude as predicted. Athanasia receives social invitations from dozens of people, displeasing Emperor Claude who suspects they want to manipulate her. Claude later gifts her a rose garden, implying she can invite people to visit her instead. Excited, Athanasia invites Jennette and several others to tea.

Dr Stone season 4 “Science Future” final cour

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. After the battle on Treasure Island, Senku and the gang return to the Kingdom of Science. With their sights set on the Moon, they must first voyage to the Americas in hopes of beginning to harvest the required materials. Through teamwork and science, they continue the fight to save humanity once and for all. This will involve creating a space program to go to the Moon.

This Evening’s Episode: “Countdown“

Senku reluctantly agrees that Stanley is more suitable for their mission to confront Why-Man on the moon. Xeno agrees to act as a hostage, whom Tsukasa may kill if Stanley betrays them. In private, Ryusui is upset that he will not be going to the moon. The countdown to launch is happening.

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke (Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen Dai-San-Bu Ryuushu no Youjo) season 4

The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again. Now she has become Rosemyne, the adopted daughter of a Duke.

This evening’s Episode: “Wilfried’s Day as High Bishop“

Rosemyne finally gets fed up with her foster brother Wilfried’s complaints and offers to switch spots with him for a day. Wilfried is happy to have a day of luxury in Rosemyne’s place. Meanwhile what is Rosemyne’s ulterior motive? Just how spoiled is Wilfried?

Witch Hat Atelier (Tongari Boushi no Atorie)

In a world where only witches can cast magic, they must avoid being seen by ordinary people while casting. While Coco does her chores, she daydreams of becoming a witch. When a young witch named Qifrey visits her village, Coco uncovers the “absolute secret,” becomes Qifrey’s apprentice, and begins her studies. This is the story of children who encounter despair, yet reach out toward hope.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Test in Serpentback Cave“

Agott softens her biases towards Coco after seeing her growth. Qifrey motivates Coco and Richeh to continue studying. Qifrey brings the apprentices to the Serpentback Cave to confirm their readiness for fieldwork through the Sincerity of the Shield. Qifrey reveals to Coco and Tetia that the Serpentback Cave formed as a result of forbidden magic like the Dadah Range.

Champignon Witch (Champignon no Majo)

Luna is a young witch who lives alone in a forest known for its poisonous mushrooms. Feared and shunned by nearby villagers for being a black witch in a kingdom ruled by white witches, Luna is believed to bring illness and death because of the poisonous mushrooms that she leaves everywhere she touches.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Councilor“

The wind mage interrupts Luna’s reunion with Henri, with Lize collapsing from the poison he has been exposed to. The villagers and the white mage find them, and Henri tells them a place inside the castle that Wind Mage teleports them to. Lize will become jealous, and Luna will suffer the thing that poisons black witches.

In the year 11945 on a post-apocalyptic Earth abandoned by humanity. Earth has been occupied by aliens, who fight using an army of Machine Lifeforms. Androids, created by humans, fight against the Machine Lifeforms, with the conflict turning into a prolonged proxy war. The latest addition to the android forces is YoRHa, an elite android fighting force based in the orbital Bunker and communicating directly with the Council of Humanity on the Moon.

Tonight’s Episode: “or not to [B]e“

YoRHa android soldier 2B is sent on a mission to destroy a Goliath-class Machine lifeform. However, the rest of her unit is destroyed en route, leaving her the sole survivor. Landing at an abandoned factory, 2B fights her way through multiple machines before meeting with 9S, another android specializing in reconnaissance and electronic warfare. They both scout the factory searching for the Goliath until it activates as a massive, building sized Machine.

In a near future, technology has firmly taken root into society at large. Cybernetic implants are nothing uncommon and robots roam as plentiful as humans, all connected through their ”ghosts” to the electronic datastreams of the net. Major Motoko Kusanagi and the Public Security Section 9 find themselves in a constant battle with the newly created wave of technological terrorists and cyber-hackers.

Tonight’s preview Episode: “Prologue + Super Spartan i“

Public Security officer Daisuke Aramaki moves to arrest the corrupt Far East Trade Representative under suspicion of assassinating the previous Prime Minister. Aramaki is forced to let the trade representative go until the mysterious cyborg Motoko Kusanagi assassinates the latter, acting under the final orders of the late Prime Minister. She has a deal, to become Public Security Section 9. Kusanagi and her team are assigned their first mission, which is to investigate an orphanage suspected of using an illegal Ghost controller to brainwash the orphans in their care.

Roll Over and Die: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword! (Omae Gotoki ga Maou ni Kateru to Omou na to Yuusha Paati o Tsuihou Sareta no de, Outo de Kimama ni Kurashitai which literally translates as ‘Banished from the Hero’s Party Because They Said ‘Don’t Think Somebody Like You Can Defeat the Demon Lord’, I Want to Live Freely in the Capital‘)

Flum Apricot is born with a unique Affinity known as “Reversal” that leaves her with zero stats across the board. However, after being prophesied by the God Origin to join the Hero’s party and defeat the Demon Lord, Flum finds herself with what seems like an impossible task. Things only get harder when the party’s renowned sage, Jean Inteige, decides to sell her into slavery instead. Flum finally learns the true meaning of her unique “Reversal” Affinity.

Tonight’s Episode: “The End and the Beginning” finale

Flum continues her way through the dungeon. Milkit finds herself imprisoned in a secret room with Satils and Ink. Welcy catches up with Flum, having learned about the secret chamber that Milkit is in. As Satils continues to torture Milkit, Flum eventually arrives and saves her and Ink. But this is just the beginning in foiling the evil plans and dealing with demons.

Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004 (Yuusha-kei ni Shosu: Choubatsu Yuusha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku)

In a world where heroism is a punishment, Xylo Forbartz, a condemned goddess killer, battles endless hordes of monstrous abominations as part of Penal Hero Unit 9004. Death is no escape, only a cycle of resurrection and relentless combat. But when Xylo encounters a mysterious new goddess, their unlikely alliance sparks a rebellion that could shatter the chains of eternal punishment.

Tonight’s Episode: “Sentence: Support Retreat From Couveunge Forest”

Immortal heroes Xylo Forbrantz and Dotta Luzulas are tasked with aiding Holy Knights escape from a Demonic Blight, which turns animals exposed to it into monsters called faeries. Inside a coffin Dotta retrieved from the knights, they find a goddess, a powerful, living weapon in the form of a girl named Teoritta. Upon awakening, Teoritta asks Xylo to form a pact with her, but he refuses. Fellow hero Venetim Leopool then informs Xylo that the knights’ commander, Patausche Kivia, is refusing to retreat. Rushing to her location, Xylo tries to convince Kivia to follow orders. However, they are then attacked by the blight’s source, the Demon Lord Awd Goggie. With no other choice, Xylo forms a pact with Teoritta.
