No JAFWA screening until Saturday 8^th August 2026!

We here on the JAFWA committee put a bit of effort into presenting a cultural snapshot of Japan through the varied genres represented in anime, however on Saturday August 1^st we are taking our once-a-month weekend off to refresh and fortify ourselves.
This weekend we let our wonderful attendees go forth into the world without the crutch of JAFWA to experience Life, though it tends to be organic and sticky.
Though all is not necessarily lost on the anime front. If you read this early enough you know that on Monday July 27^th 2026 ~6:30PM will be Luna Double Feature at Luna Cinemas Leederville – “Spirited Away” and “Howl’s Moving Castle” for a mere $17. And still at various Event and Hoyts cinemas you can indulge in the latest Detective Conan movie Detective Conan: Fallen Angel Of The Highway.

Though it is the season of Winter and the weather dares to be inclement, we are left thankful that we are in the Collins St Community Hall protected us from said inclement weather, and we were warmed by our love of anime.
And to help warm your souls we will show not one but two preview episodes from different programs. Though one of these preview items for next time will be an episode that is a double-length first episode, all to make it easier if it happens to be voted into the program for September. More information next week.

If you strongly feel that JAFWA is neglecting certain well-deserving anime, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.
