Screening earlier on the evening of Saturday, June 13^th 2026.

This week JAFWA will be operating on Winter Hours – ie screening starts at ~4:15PM.

The month of June doth dawn for JAFWA this Saturday evening. The Bureau of Meteorology claims it is officially Winter in our Southern Hemisphere climes, and while the idea sends chills down my back I know that in Northern Hemisphere Japan there are still a brace of weeks of Spring left with Summer officially starting on June 21^st.

But we are officially open to nominations to get yourself onto the committee elections. The election shall take place on July 18^th, during the Dinner Break of the screening session after the AGM.

In this week’s JAFWA program we have out regular regular program now locked in, and it shall continue till at least August. Unless a motion is made and voted for at the AGM (this is a plug to engage with the AGM).
This week we shall preview how hazardous a video game can be if you don’t read the instructions and immediately choose the toughest setting.

It has been pointed out by a long-time JAFWA member that there are other people interested in anime. This Saturday before JAFWA, from 10AM to 4PM is the Voyager cares Anime open day at WestCity Church, 63 Nanson Street Wembley.

As a Public Service Announcement from JAFWA we regretfully inform people with the news that the long-time fixture of Perth fandom – Tokyo Underground is being forced to close for the final time. Though Bronwyn has taken her store through many misfortunes and relocations, she has indicated that she will not be maintaining her stall at the Wanneroo Weekend Markets much longer due to health reasons. Before the EoFY, after which it is too late, visit Tokyo Underground one last time, and help her empty the shop.

Anime is definitely going mainstream. Last year at the cinemas has been the “Demon Slayer” movie, followed by the “Chainsaw Man” movie, and then the “Jujitsu Kaisen” movie. This year there has been the “Zombieland Saga” movie, and a “Gundam” movie, and an unbelievably good “Scarlet”. Life is wonderful for anime fans.
What else will be showing up in cinemas? It sometimes seems that all the popular Japanese anime movies are coming.
Not to mention that Luna Leederville is putting anime films in their Monday Double Feature program and Thursday Tokyo Nights.

You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Who Made me a Princess? (In Japanese: Aru Hi, Ohime-sama ni Natteshimatta Ken ni Tsuite, in Korean: Eoneu Nal Gongjuga Doeeobeolyeossda, in Chinese: Mófaa Goungzhuu de Xiao Fánnao)

The story follows Athanasia de Alger Obelia, a young princess executed by her father, Claude de Alger Obelia, the cold-blooded emperor of the Obelian Empire. However, Athanasia is reincarnated as her baby-self and given a second chance at the same life. Athanasia must use all of her wit and cunning to survive in the palace and to prevent her own death.

This evening’s Episode: “Uninvited Guests“

Duke Alpheus insists Athanasia needs a study companion, then suggests his own son Ijikiel. Athanasia does not trust Alpheus, since one of her visions showed him to be manipulative. Athanasia demonstrates she has already surpassed Ijikiel, amusing Claude. Athanasia begins studying magic intensely. Two years later the wizard spots Lilian and senses her fate was changed to prevent her death, so he follows fate’s thread back to Athanasia.

Dr Stone season 4 “Science Future” final cour

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. After the battle on Treasure Island, Senku and the gang return to the Kingdom of Science. With their sights set on the Moon, they must first voyage to the Americas in hopes of beginning to harvest the required materials. Through teamwork and science, they continue the fight to save humanity once and for all. This will involve creating a space program to go to the Moon.

This Evening’s Episode: “The Universe Is Written in the Language of Mathematics“

Ryusui reveals that his family opened a university in India dedicated to mathematics research, so it should still be filled with hundreds of mathematicians. Arriving in India, they forage seeds for spices and herbs now growing wild everywhere, which Francois uses to make curry. Ryusui deduces that their genius target Sai would have been on his laptop on the university roof during the petrification event, making it easier for Senku and Chelsea to triangulate his current location.

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke (Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen Dai-San-Bu Ryuushu no Youjo) season 4

The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again. Now she has become Rosemyne, the adopted daughter of a Duke.

Rosemyne officially moves into the castle and Duke Sylvester finally eats at the Italian restaurant.

When a young witch named Qifrey visits her village, Coco uncovers the “absolute secret,” becomes Qifrey’s apprentice, and begins her studies. This is the story of children who encounter despair, yet reach out toward hope.

Tonight’s Episode: “Meetings in Kalhn”

Qifrey takes the apprentices to the witch town of Kalhn to find a pen suited for Coco’s skills and background. They arrive at the town’s magic stationery shop owned by Nolnoa and his grandson Tartah. While checking Nolnoa’s pens, Coco sees the masked witch stalking her. She pursues them while a confused Tetia, Richeh, and Agott catch up. The apprentices are teleported to a labyrinth with a dragon..

Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods (Kami no Niwatsuki Kusunoki-tei)

Minato Kusunoki ends up becoming the caretaker of a newly constructed house deep in the countryside. A procession of unique and peculiar gods is drawn to the comfort of the purified Kusunoki residence, and Minato spends his days relaxing in the company of his spiritual neighbours. What else lies in store for Minato as he lives peacefully surrounded by gods.

Tonight’s Episode: “Welcome to the Spring Garden”

Minato decides to train his power to seal the unseen, hoping if he can seal exorcism power in an object then it might be useful for Harima. As the house is for sale, Minato wonders why potential buyers keep cancelling. Yamagami sends Minato foraging for bamboo shoots, claiming they will help his training. There will be other visitors.

Champignon Witch (Champignon no Majo)

Luna is a young witch who lives alone in a forest known for its poisonous mushrooms. Feared and shunned by nearby villagers for being a black witch in a kingdom ruled by white witches, Luna is believed to bring illness and death because of the poisonous mushrooms that she leaves everywhere she touches.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Black Witch Council”

It is explained that Luna had strong magical powers before she was a cursed youngling, and she was able to escape her fate because of it. She pleads to the council to let her raise the boy so he can also overcome The End of All Things. Does she have a ghost of a chance that the Council will vote in approval?

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. Since Flugel’s riddle used knowledge from Earth, Subaru concludes that the sage must have been transported to this world like himself. Exploring the library, he is shown Typhon’s memories after picking up a book titled after the Witch of Pride. Foxidna also deduces that the tower has rules, and Shaula is contracted to kill those who violate them.

Roll Over and Die: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword! (Omae Gotoki ga Maou ni Kateru to Omou na to Yuusha Paati o Tsuihou Sareta no de, Outo de Kimama ni Kurashitai which literally translates as ‘Banished from the Hero’s Party Because They Said ‘Don’t Think Somebody Like You Can Defeat the Demon Lord’, I Want to Live Freely in the Capital‘)

Flum Apricot is born with a unique Affinity known as “Reversal” that leaves her with zero stats across the board. Flum and Sara return to the inn to find that Dein’s men have taken Milkit hostage, prompting Flum to kill them. Milkit mourns her clothes, and Sara returns to the Capital. Examining the house, Flum is shocked to discover that it is already inhabited by Eterna, who quit the Hero’s party following her argument with Jean.

Clevatess (Clevatess -Majuu no Ou to Akago to Shikabane no Yuusha-)

After killing a group of heroes and destroying an entire kingdom as revenge for attacking his lands, one of the Four Beast Kings, Clevatess, takes in a baby belonging to the kingdom’s royal family. He then resurrects one of the heroes, Alicia Glenfall, whom he enslaves so she can help him take care of the baby while hoping to examine humanity more closely.

Tonight’s Episode: “Insect Controlling Wizard“

Shortly after Gart leaves, the group settle down for a break. Alicia informs Klen of Dorel’s attempt to conquer Haiden and that he must be stopped. Klen takes his true form and leaves to handle the situation. Alicia, Luna, and Nelluru stay at an inn run by Karl and her sons Pito and Phil, who are distrustful of outsiders. Maynard discovers their location and sends giant insects to surround the town.
