Event afternoon and Screening of Saturday 28th March 2026

Event Afternoon before JAFWA Screening

JAFWA has the hall from about 1PM to 4:30PM, where it is make our own amusement time.

We hope to invite Special Guests the Perth Linux Users Group to show us how to liberate ourselves from the shackles of Microsoft Windows and embrace the elegance of Linux on our personal computers. So if you have an old laptop or PC that you wish to revive the O/S, bring it along on the afternoon of Saturday 28^th.

Other than PLUG, does anyone want hall space for nerf gun battles? Bring your own ping-pong? Table top games? Does anybody have their own game machine and games they want their fellow JAFWAites to play? JAFWA will bring out the projector and screen. I am not certain we have access to the outdoor area, but we will try to keep you off the street.
In the past people have brought along video games and the hardware to play them, and sewing machines for cosplay creating. What do you want to do? Just so long as it fun, legal, ethical, and we don’t scuff the floor of the Hall.

We have Marched past the Equinox here at JAFWA and we know that Taiyo-san (our great and honourable Sun) is beginning to grant more time to Night. But dream on of Summer for a little while longer, as it is still more than a month before JAFWA switches to Winter Hours.

But people might be more interested to know that this is the end of the month of March, and there are two special occurrences that will be happening:
* Firstly, our monthly Survey to help the JAFWA committee determine the popularity of both the regular program and the preview episodes we show. Will “Beginning After the End” and “Oshi no Ko” continue to be the least popular regular series, and can anything topple “Freiren” from its majestic first place? After all we aren’t screening “JoJo” at the moment.
* Secondly, there shall be the Monthly Member’s Prize Draw. Last month there was considerable excitement over the prize chosen. What else would our dear JAFWAites like to see in the prize pool? We have a Suggestion box.

Our regular JAFWA program will include a preview episode just before the Dinner Break, so it can be included in the Survey. What happens when an obsessive fan finally meets her idol, outside his public persona?

Anime is definitely going mainstream. Last year at the cinemas has been the “Demon Slayer” movie, followed by the “Chainsaw Man” movie, and then the “Jujitsu Kaisen” movie. This year there has been the “Zombieland Saga” movie, and a “Gundam” movie, and an unbelievably good “Scarlet”. Life is wonderful for anime fans.
What else will be showing up in cinemas? The return of “Demon Slayer”! And the scary concept “Umamusume Pretty Derby”.
Not to mention that Luna Leederville is putting anime films in their Monday Double Feature program and Thursday Tokyo Nights.

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like Lindsay, Elliot and Dale did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally have done, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

This year SwanCon celebrates its 50^th anniversary!

JAFWA and SwanCon go back quite far. Many early SwanCon attendees received their first dose of ‘proper’ anime through the late night screening rooms (nothing too dodgy, just pleasantly weird). When JAFWA became an incorporated body in late 1996/early 1997, the governing body of SwanCon (The Western Australian Science Fiction Foundation, or WASFF) allowed us to use their Constitutional Documents as a basis for our own.

In 1999, and again in 2006 JAFWA worked with SwanCon to raise funds and sponsor a Special Guest – Mangaka, Cosplayer, Musician and Toei Animation star Ippongi Bang. Without SwanCon’s support JAFWA would not have achieved something so special.

This year SwanCon is on from 29 May through the long weekend to 1 June, at The Pagoda Resort in Como. For those wanting to visit on the Saturday before the screening, JAFWA is a short distance away in South Perth.

Alma-chan Wants to Have a Family (Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai)

Alma is a super high-performance girl-type robot weapon created by two genius scientists, Enji Kamisato and Suzume Yobane. However, because the pair created her, Alma thinks that the two are actually her parents, and uses all in her considerable power to make them the perfect family.

This evening’s Episode: “Summer Vacation“

Summer break arrives and Neon and Hana arrange to meet Alma for Summer Festival. While practicing with her buxom body Alma accidentally knocks over a boy named Naoki, who loses his key and gets rather embarrassed by Alma’s buxomness. But otherwise Summer Vacation is boring, except when Alma’s friends and family try to “improve” the experience.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sousou no Furiiren) season 2

For ten years, elf mage Frieren traveled with Himmel the hero, Heiter the priest, and Eisen the dwarf warrior as they quested to destroy the demon king. At the end of their journey, Frieren set out on her own, not quite understanding how differently time flows for her versus her human companions. Reunited after fifty years only to see them wither and die, Frieren begins to ponder the nature of connections at a time when it’s already too late to say goodbye. On the road to Ende, Frieren confronts past bonds and rising threats with her newfound party.

This Evening’s Episode: “Logistics in the Northern Plateau“

The trio arrive in the Bier region on the Northern Plateau. After the party finishes eating, they run into a dwarf named Fass. Fass enlists Frieren’s assistance to acquire Boshaft, a famous liquor served to emperors of the past. Within the mine that Boshaft is supposed to be stored in, the team arrives at an inscription written in Elvish, as the elf Milliarde sealed the liquor in a powerful barrier to preserve it for the future. Later, the party arrives at the Norm Company’s fortress city, Norm Company handles the logistics in the Northern Plateau, allowing them to have a nice city full of goods. While moving through the city, Frieren is apprehended for debt evasion and enslaved.

Utage Kinoshita is a high school girl who works part-time as a housekeeper. She has devoted her life to her favorite idol, Tamon Fukuhara, from the group F/ACE. Then one day, Utage ends up being assigned to Tamon’s house. There she discovers that off-stage, he is nothing like his wild idol persona. A gloomy, introverted boy with no self-confidence, Utage still finds herself falling for him anyway.

This evening’s Episode: “You Need Money to Support Your Oshi!“

Utage Kinoshita, a high school girl and superfan of the idol Tamon Fukuhara from F/ACE, is called to work to fill in for Toda, who had an emergency surgery. Utage is assigned to clean Tamon’s apartment and finds out that he actually has a gloomy personality in contrast to his bold persona in public. As Utage cleans the apartment, she tells Tamon how big of a fan she is, while also cooking meals for him. After an accident, a news report comes out that frames Utage as an anonymous stalker.

Spy x Family season 3

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

Tonight’s Episode: “Take Down the Busjacker“

As the siege continues, Billy allows Henderson to bring food to the school bus and offers to take the place of a teacher who was injured during the bus hijacking. Billy reveals to Henderson that the Red Circus was originally a peaceful student protest movement seeking freedom and equal rights for the people of Ostania. Elsewhere, Yuri and his SSS team manage to find the second school bus, eliminate the terrorists, and rescue the hostages. After finding out that there’s a real bomb in the bus and that the SSS is sending a strike team to end the siege violently, Anya stands up to Billy, claiming she wants more food.

May I Ask for One Final Thing? (Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai Shitemo Yoroshii Deshou ka)

In the middle of a ball, Scarlet’s fiancé, Prince Kyle, suddenly calls off their engagement. She’s falsely accused of being a bully, and people unfairly call her a “Villainess.” At her wit’s end, she asks for one last favor: to give him a good fist in the face. So begins Scarlet’s story of revenge against Kyle and his corrupt cronies.

Tonight’s Episode: “May I Explain That This is Not Something That Just Anyone Can Do?“

In the past, the previous Saint died and passed her powers to Diana. She is then moved to the Church of Diana where she met and befriended Scarlet, though she has conflicted feelings for Scarlet. In the present, Scarlet remains asleep and Diana fears imprisonment for betraying Pallistan. Terenezza destroys the Snowind Holy Gem and monsters invade and attack Snowind while Falconia and Eldrand declare war.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (“Masshuru”) season 2

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. His muscular body will have to protect him from the magic users who are out to get him, now that his magic-lack is revealed.

Tonight’s Episode: “Wahlberg Baigan and the Greatest Danger“

Divine Visionary Ryoh Grantz and student Nerey Shawn approach the academy but after getting too close, Nerey is frozen by Innocent’s time spell. Being powerful enough, Ryoh is unaffected and rushes to help but finds everyone safe, having defeated the demons and Innocent’s men. Mash rushes off to find Wahlberg shortly before the unconscious Cell is teleported away, causing Orter to realize another of Innocent’s servants is hiding nearby. But is Wahlberg doomed?

Oshi no Ko (“My Favorite Idol” or “Their Idol’s Children”) season 3

Goro Amemiya works as an OB-GYN in a small rural town and is a huge fan of upcoming idol Ai Hoshino. After an unexpected meeting, Goro ends up dying suddenly only to be reborn as one of Ai’s children; a boy named Aquamarine Hoshino (or Aqua for short). He and his twin sister Ruby then grows up as one of show-biz’s biggest secrets.
As Aqua continues his quest to find his father—the puppet master behind his mother’s murder—within the Japanese entertainment industry. But to also track down the truth behind Ai and Goro’s deaths, Ruby keeps rising in the entertainment world.

Tonight’s Episode: “Breakdown“

Miyako and B-Komachi plan their response to the scandal, as Miyako points out the original target was Shima due to his history of adultery and comments that a bigger scandal can distract people from Kana’s situation. Ruby talks to Aqua about how she will do anything they can to help Kana, whereupon Aqua convinces himself that he can suppress the news of Kana’s scandal by trading the story of his and Ruby’s parentage and its leading to Ai’s murder to the paparazzi instead.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game (Jujutsu Kaisen Shimetsu Kaiyuu Zenpen)

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin. Now that curses are mainstream, the Culling Game begins, pushing Yuji and his allies to their limits.

Tonight’s Episode: “Tokyo Colony No. 1 – Part 3“

Inside Higuruma’s Domain, a target is trialled for a crime they’ve committed, with his shikigami, Judgeman, overseeing the case. Yuji is charged with entering a pachinko parlor while underage. Judgeman declares Yuji guilty and confiscates his cursed energy, allowing Higuruma to overwhelm him with his exceptional sorcerer abilities. Before he can be killed, Yuji demands a retrial, and they return to the Domain. He is then charged for the mass murder in Shibuya, which Yuji confesses to, sentencing him to death.

The Beginning After The End (Saikyou no Ousama, Futatabime no Jinsei wa Nani o Suru? lit. ‘What Will the Mighty King Do in His Second Life?’)

King Grey is a once-powerful ruler reborn as Arthur Leywin, a boy with untapped potential. He discovers that his new life is filled with danger and adventure at every turn. From mastering powerful spells to facing fierce enemies, Arthur must use his skills and wits to protect those he cares about and uncover the secrets of his mysterious reincarnation.

Tonight’s Episode: “The King’s Defiance“

Vincent hosts an auction attended by King Blaine, who purchases a World Lion cub for his son Prince Curtis to be his mana beast partner. Sebastien, the King’s magician, selfishly demands Arthur give him Sylvie to serve as his partner.

Golden Kamuy final season(Goruden Kamui)

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Starting Gun of Resolve“

Our mysterious (and naked) fake cadet cannot possibly allow Lt Tsurumi to kill an innocent lady. And the real Hanazawa appears. How can this possibly be explained? And what of marriage plans? But in the present both sides have cracked the code and determined the hiding place of the gold. Now the real battle is to begin.
