Screening of Saturday 21st March 2026

We are Marching, Marching, Marching to the beat of a full orchestra of anime drums at JAFWA. Now is the coming of the Equinox when Night struggles to overpower the Sun.

Our regular JAFWA program will include a preview episode just before the Late Break. Set in a fantasy world where an adventuring party filled with people with unique skills, what is the terrible fate of the person who can’t pull her weight because her unique skill appears to be useless.

Anime is definitely going mainstream. Last year at the cinemas has been the “Demon Slayer” movie, followed by the “Chainsaw Man” movie, and then the “Jujitsu Kaisen” movie. This year there has been the “Zombieland Saga” movie, and a “Gundam” movie, and an unbelievably good “Scarlet”. Life is wonderful for anime fans.
What else will be showing up in cinemas? The return of “Demon Slayer”!
Not to mention that Luna Leederville is putting anime films in their Monday Double Feature program and Thursday Tokyo Nights.

If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like Lindsay, Elliot and Dale did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally have done, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Alma-chan Wants to Have a Family (Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai)

Alma is a super high-performance girl-type robot weapon created by two genius scientists, Enji Kamisato and Suzume Yobane. However, because the pair created her, Alma thinks that the two are actually her parents, and uses all in her considerable power to make them the perfect family.

This evening’s Episode: “Play With Me“

Alma is kidnapped by a criminal named Takumi intending to ransom her. Alma allows the kidnapping so she can gain experience, calling Neon and Machina for advice. Later Alma begins a sticker collecting hobby and gives Hana a dog sticker resembling her puppies, so Hana buys her a butterfly sticker in return. One of Suzume’s robots goes berserk and attacks the city, growing larger every time it eats something.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sousou no Furiiren) season 2

For ten years, elf mage Frieren traveled with Himmel the hero, Heiter the priest, and Eisen the dwarf warrior as they quested to destroy the demon king. At the end of their journey, Frieren set out on her own, not quite understanding how differently time flows for her versus her human companions. Reunited after fifty years only to see them wither and die, Frieren begins to ponder the nature of connections at a time when it’s already too late to say goodbye. On the road to Ende, Frieren confronts past bonds and rising threats with her newfound party.

This Evening’s Episode: “Other People’s Homes“

Fern prepares for the date with Stark by picking out an outfit and doing her hair. The date starts with Stark and Fern conversing awkwardly while heading to the market. After that encounter the party travels and arrives at the Northern Plateau checkpoint. After the trio replenish their supplies, Fern presents a scroll confirming her first-class mage status, allowing the party to cross.

Spy x Family season 3

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This Evening’s Episode: “The Red Circus“

Billy threatens the hostages to obey them as he wants to use their status as the children of the Ostanian elite to pressure the government. Anya uses her powers to find out where the Red Circus is bringing the school buses, and then throw a note out of the bus. However, Anya is caught in the act, and Billy places a bomb around her neck to threaten the students. Damien is also fitted with a neck bomb when trying to take Anya’s place. Sylvia learns of the busjacking and, realising Operation Strix is at risk, covertly assists the manhunt.

May I Ask for One Final Thing? (Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai Shitemo Yoroshii Deshou ka)

In the middle of a ball, Scarlet’s fiancé, Prince Kyle, suddenly calls off their engagement. She’s falsely accused of being a bully, and people unfairly call her a “Villainess.” At her wit’s end, she asks for one last favor: to give him a good fist in the face. So begins Scarlet’s story of revenge against Kyle and his corrupt cronies.

Tonight’s Episode: “May I Offer You a Fist in Place of a Handkerchief?“

Sigurd confirms that Pope Sargon has a spy close to Diana. At the Holy Gem of Memphis, Scarlet reveals that the Dianist Church doesn’t have one Saint; it actually has two, Diana and Scarlet. Count Padrack accuses Diana of being a witch and staging a fake pilgrimage. He also reveals that they have a real Saint from the Palmian Church, Terenezza. Terenezza uses hypnosis to make her guards try to kill Scarlet. Scarlet faints from over-exertion and finds herself in the realm of Chronoa, God of Time, who granted her Time magic and Diana’s Barrier magic, where the god explains certain things.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (“Masshuru”) season 2

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. His muscular body will have to protect him from the magic users who are out to get him, now that his magic-lack is revealed.

Tonight’s Episode: “Wahlberg Baigan and the Magic of Darkness“

During his lifetime of several centuries, Adam revolutionized modern magical theory and founded both the academy and the bureau of magic to support those without magic, the Magic-less, as he believed the strong had a responsibility to protect the weak. Now his students Wahlberg Baigan and Innocent Zero battle over his legacy, while lesser battles occur over Mash’s heart.

Oshi no Ko (“My Favorite Idol” or “Their Idol’s Children”) season 3

Goro Amemiya works as an OB-GYN in a small rural town and is a huge fan of upcoming idol Ai Hoshino. After an unexpected meeting, Goro ends up dying suddenly only to be reborn as one of Ai’s children; a boy named Aquamarine Hoshino (or Aqua for short). He and his twin sister Ruby then grows up as one of show-biz’s biggest secrets.
As Aqua continues his quest to find his father—the puppet master behind his mother’s murder—within the Japanese entertainment industry. But to also track down the truth behind Ai and Goro’s deaths, Ruby keeps rising in the entertainment world.

Tonight’s Episode: “Idols and Relationships“

Ruby expresses surprise at the number of idols secretly having boyfriends, and she reflects on the industry’s stars concealing their relationships to avoid scandals. On her way home, Kana is approached by the paparazzi, who interrogates her about her relationship with Shima while Miyako receives an email with files showing Kana with Shima. A distraught Kana runs away and fears she has endangered B-Komachi with her actions.

Things only get harder when the party’s renowned sage, Jean Inteige, decides to sell her into slavery instead. Flum finally learns the true meaning of her unique “Reversal” Affinity.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Beginning and the End“

Though chosen by humanity’s deity, Origin, to join the Hero’s party and defeat the Demon Lord, Flum has zero stats due to her Affinity—Reversal. Considering her a nuisance, the party’s Sage, Jean, sells her into slavery behind the other members’ backs. Even worse, the slave trader decides to feed her and the other slaves to ghouls after deeming her a defective product. He at least gives them a sword to defend themselves, but it is cursed to kill anyone with low stats. Cursed sword, meet Flum Apricot’s unique Affinity.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game (Jujutsu Kaisen Shimetsu Kaiyuu Zenpen)

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin. Now that curses are mainstream, the Culling Game begins, pushing Yuji and his allies to their limits.

Tonight’s Episode: “Tokyo Colony No. 1 – Part 2“

Higuruma is a public defender who grew disillusioned dealing with both a corrupt system, as well as his clients decrying him when he is unable to achieve favorable pleas for them. When his emotional state breaks after another trial ends in his client being unfairly sentenced, Higuruma’s cursed technique awakens, revealing a large shikigami, as he declares a “retrial” on the court. In the present, Yuji is taken to a theater in Ikebukuro by Amai, where Higuruma is stationed, while Remi lures Megumi to Shinjuku, to meet a reincarnated sorcerer, Reggie Star.

The Beginning After The End (Saikyou no Ousama, Futatabime no Jinsei wa Nani o Suru? lit. ‘What Will the Mighty King Do in His Second Life?’)

King Grey is a once-powerful ruler reborn as Arthur Leywin, a boy with untapped potential. He discovers that his new life is filled with danger and adventure at every turn. From mastering powerful spells to facing fierce enemies, Arthur must use his skills and wits to protect those he cares about and uncover the secrets of his mysterious reincarnation.

Tonight’s Episode: “The King Teaches“

While shopping, Arthur feels a presence from a store selling extracted beast cores. Lilia has long desired one as they sometimes contain Beast Wills, but her parents consider this cheating when she should be focused on awakening her own core. An argument disturbs boys from the Academy. A fight almost occurs, but the boys leave after realizing Lilia is Vincent’s daughter.

Golden Kamuy final season(Goruden Kamui)

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Tokyo Love Story“

In 1901 Sgt Kikuta was training candidates at the army officer training school in Tokyo. He finds a random handsome stranger to help sabotage an arranged marriage to prevent a flag-bearer from being invalidated. But all the training and prep will not be enough to prevent the plan going awry. Love and honour are strange. As is the quest for Ainu gold. A comedy of mistaken identities.
