Screening of Saturday 14th March 2026

As we continue to March into this year of wonderful anime at JAFWA, spare a thought for those who are suffering the trials and tribulations of the world and not getting enough anime in their lives. Give them a treat and bring some of them to JAFWA.

And a reminder that this Saturday is White Day, the day it is traditional to reciprocate the gift of chocolate received on Valentine’s Day with an equivalent amount of white chocolate (though rumours abound that the white thankyou gift can be something other than chocolate).

Once again we have our regular JAFWA program, and to give it extra spice we have managed to fit in a preview episode after the Dinner Break. This preview episode is set in the scary world of kindergarten and involves the world’s strongest psychic as she protects and is protected.

I do have to apologise. The wrong episode of “Milky Subway” was screened last session. We will show the correct mini-episode this week.

Anime is definitely going mainstream. Last year at the cinemas has been the “Demon Slayer” movie, followed by the “Chainsaw Man” movie, and then the “Jujitsu Kaisen” movie. This year there has been the “Zombieland Saga” movie, and a “Gundam” movie, and an unbelievably good “Scarlet”. Life is wonderful for anime fans.
What else will be showing up in cinemas?
Not to mention that Luna Leederville is putting anime films in their Monday Double Feature program and Thursday Tokyo Nights.

Alma-chan Wants to Have a Family (Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai)

Alma is a super high-performance girl-type robot weapon created by two genius scientists, Enji Kamisato and Suzume Yobane. However, because the pair created her, Alma thinks that the two are actually her parents, and uses all in her considerable power to make them the perfect family.

This evening’s Episode: “A Project“

Enji’s younger sister Toki visits again, making Enji nervous as something about Toki always makes computers act strangely. Sure enough, Alma malfunctions after trying to decipher Toki’s drawing of a bear. There is also trips to the public baths, Parent’s Day at school, Machina visiting and Alma’s AI overloading.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sousou no Furiiren) season 2

For ten years, elf mage Frieren traveled with Himmel the hero, Heiter the priest, and Eisen the dwarf warrior as they quested to destroy the demon king. At the end of their journey, Frieren set out on her own, not quite understanding how differently time flows for her versus her human companions. Reunited after fifty years only to see them wither and die, Frieren begins to ponder the nature of connections at a time when it’s already too late to say goodbye. On the road to Ende, Frieren confronts past bonds and rising threats with her newfound party.

Moving through the Etwas Mountains region, the party arrives at a small village renowned for hot springs. Unfortunately, the local hot springs have since dried up, but a villager tells the party that there is a hot spring hidden in the Etwas Mountains, although Frieren is reluctant to visit it, not just for the perilous trek through the mountains. When they finally reach the next town, Fern is bored and tells Stark that he is neglecting her and is an inconsiderate jerk. Stark decides to tease Fern by asking her on a date and is surprised she actually accepts his proposal. What is Stark to do?

Spy x Family season 3

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This Evening’s Episode: “White Jealousy / The Eden College Busjacking Incident“

Loid tries to get more information on Melinda and her inner circle by being their psychiatrist, but hits a roadblock when Gerald Gorey, the hospital director, refuses to give any VIP patients to Loid out of spite due to Gorey’s jealousy of Loid’s popularity with both the patients and hospital staff alike, especially Fiona, who he has an unrequited crush on.
The the SSS learns that Billy Squire, one of the leaders of the Red Circus terrorist group, has returned to Ostania from abroad with his comrades. At the same time, the Eden College first-year students have a field trip to the museum.

May I Ask for One Final Thing? (Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai Shitemo Yoroshii Deshou ka)

In the middle of a ball, Scarlet’s fiancé, Prince Kyle, suddenly calls off their engagement. She’s falsely accused of being a bully, and people unfairly call her a “Villainess.” At her wit’s end, she asks for one last favor: to give him a good fist in the face. So begins Scarlet’s story of revenge against Kyle and his corrupt cronies.

Using the spear as a missile, Scarlet collapses the Palmian Church and beats up the bomber, Catarl the Inquisitor, and his disciples. Diana falls from her platform after it breaks, but is caught by Scarlet’s brother Leonardo, causing her to develop a crush on him. Once the Pilgrimage arrives in Memphis City where Scarlet helps Diana dress and act more casually to ask Leonardo on a date. Prince of the Vankish Empire Alflame is visited by Inquisitor Michelin, who requests his help.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (“Masshuru”) season 2

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. His muscular body will have to protect him from the magic users who are out to get him, now that his magic-lack is revealed.

Tonight’s Episode: “Mash Burnedead and the Tall Tower“

Innocent Zero freezes everyone with his Time magic, though Wahlberg is somehow unaffected. Innocent then summons demons to attack the frozen audience so Wahlberg unfreezes Mash, his friends, Kaldo and Orter to fight them while he teleports away with Innocent to battle at a safe distance. The demons suspiciously avoid Mash so instead he races away to battle Cell War, who has summoned a black carbon tower to attack the audience from above.

Oshi no Ko (“My Favorite Idol” or “Their Idol’s Children”) season 3

Goro Amemiya works as an OB-GYN in a small rural town and is a huge fan of upcoming idol Ai Hoshino. After an unexpected meeting, Goro ends up dying suddenly only to be reborn as one of Ai’s children; a boy named Aquamarine Hoshino (or Aqua for short). He and his twin sister Ruby then grows up as one of show-biz’s biggest secrets.
As Aqua continues his quest to find his father—the puppet master behind his mother’s murder—within the Japanese entertainment industry. But to also track down the truth behind Ai and Goro’s deaths, Ruby keeps rising in the entertainment world.

Tonight’s Episode: “Casting“

While investigating, Akane learns that Hikaru conceived Taiki as a preteen, and that he would not be jailed for Ai’s murder, as he was a minor during the incident. Knowing that Aqua may resort to violence to avenge Ai, Akane aims to keep him from ever meeting Hikaru. Kana is reminded by Miyako and Shun of the heavy surveillance of idols’ movements by paparazzi, especially regarding their interactions with men.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game (Jujutsu Kaisen Shimetsu Kaiyuu Zenpen)

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin. Now that curses are mainstream, the Culling Game begins, pushing Yuji and his allies to their limits.

Tonight’s Episode: “Tokyo Colony No. 1“

After Panda informs the group of Yaga’s death, Hakari agrees to help in order to use Megumi’s position as the Zen’in clan head for his own benefit. Yuji’s Kogane appears, revealing that he is already identified as a player, which he suspects is because of Sukuna. Hakari and Panda decide to enter the Tokyo No. 2 Colony while Yuji and Megumi head to the Tokyo No. 1 Colony to find Higuruma. They enter the Colony but are immediately separated across the city.

The Beginning After The End (Saikyou no Ousama, Futatabime no Jinsei wa Nani o Suru? lit. ‘What Will the Mighty King Do in His Second Life?’)

King Grey is a once-powerful ruler reborn as Arthur Leywin, a boy with untapped potential. He discovers that his new life is filled with danger and adventure at every turn. From mastering powerful spells to facing fierce enemies, Arthur must use his skills and wits to protect those he cares about and uncover the secrets of his mysterious reincarnation.

Tonight’s Episode: “Reunited with the King“

Arthur relates the story of his absence to his thrilled parents, except for Sylvia whom he keeps secret. Reynolds, who now works security at an auction house, is curious about Arthur’s power, which is almost equal to his at such a young age. They are visited by Reynolds’ boss Vincent Halstea, his wife Tabitha and daughter Lilia. Vincent suggests Arthur be enrolled at Xyros Academy, even offering to pay the fees himself and ensure he be accepted despite only being 8 years old.

Golden Kamuy final season(Goruden Kamui)

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Ipopte“

Lt Tsurumi single-minded obsession seeks to break Asirpa and learn the secret of the tattooed skins, the key to the Golden Kamuy, which maybe her father’s Ainu name. But whose side is Private Ariko Ipopte on, what with his chequered history? What with everyone’s chequered history. Now is the time to decode the skins and discard the fakes. And a first class race to the location.
