Screening of Saturday 28th June 2025

JAFWA continues in June (Winter Hours:- 4:15PM->9:45PM)

Now that the the day of touji (Japanese for “Winter Solstice”) has passed and night begins to surrender its supremacy, we warm ourselves by the welcoming light of an anime screening over at JAFWA.
Know too, that this is the end of the month when we have a survey during our Dinner Break that provides vital guidance in our selection of anime. And we will also have our monthly members’ prize draw, so make certain to attend.
An important consideration for June is that we are opening nominations for our fully signed up financial members (at least 3 months, and resident of WA) to run in the JAFWA committee members elections.

Remember that in July we will be having our Annual General Meeting and committee elections, as per incorporation rules. What item do you want raised at the AGM, and who of our signed up members wish to run/rule JAFWA?

Just before the Dinner Break (with its survey) we continue to explore the expansive world of anime at JAFWA this week. Responding to a suggestion in the previous survey, your nearing-the-end-of-their-term committee has presents as a preview episode for this week; a school drama with a love polygon and flowers.

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Apocalypse Hotel

There is a solitary hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district. After society has collapsed, humanity has disappeared, and nature has begun to reclaim most of the land. Despite the lack of guests, Yachiyo is a hotel management robot who continues to manage the Ginzarou hotel alongside other robots.

This Evening’s Episode: “Discipline with a Fist! Reconcile with a High Five!“

Over the twenty years Yachiyo has remained stranded in Low Earth Orbit, a now adult Ponko operates the hotel in her stead, which has now started to attract more extraterrestrial guests. One night, an arriving ship collides with Yachiyo and sends her falling back to Earth. Ponko recovers Yachiyo’s body and spends the next fifty years repairing it. During that time, Yachiyo dreams.

Mob Psycho 100 III

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

This Evening’s Episode: “Transmission 1 ~Winter Break~“

With graduation approaching, Tome laments the Telepathy Club’s failure to actually communicate with aliens, and dishearteningly disbands the group upon realising the other members aren’t actually interested in telepathy. To make it up to her, Mameta, Haruto, and Saruta plan to try to make contact with aliens on New Year’s. They seek Mob’s help in learning about telepathy.

Himari Inuzuka and the flower-loving Yuu Natsume swore to be friends forever during middle school. They spend their time together happily, even until high school. But when Yuu’s first love reappears in his life, their relationship slowly becomes more chaotic, and Himari and Yuu’s relationship slowly turns into something else.

This evening’s Episode: “Anemone Flaccida and Queen of the Night“

Yuu dreams of owning his own flower accessory shop. His parents agree to let him follow his dream if he can sell 100 accessories at his 8th grade school festival. He receives the unexpected help of popular girl Himari, who ensures the other girls buy everything he has. Two years later Yuu sells his accessories regularly through his parents shop. Oddly, Himari continues to support him as long as she can keep watching the excitement in his eyes when he works. Their dynamic may yet change.

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective (“Ameko Takao no Suiri Karte” literally “Ameku Takao’s Mystery Medical Record”)

Dr. Takao Ameku is the brilliant yet eccentric director of investigative pathology at Tenikai General Hospital, in charge of diagnosing patients the other hospital departments cannot. However, due to her love of solving mysteries, Takao also gets involved with mysterious deaths and murders, all while dragging along her assistant Yu Takanashi in her various adventures.

Tonight’s Episode: “Fierce Blazing Finale“

Dr Takao tests a blood sample taken from Prof. Murota before the fire. The results confirm her suspicion, so she and Yu immediately confront the culprit, Murota’s assistant Kagaya, as he is in the act of trying to set fire to Murota’s storage shed and destroy the evidence. But is this the final truth?

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) season 2

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favourite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “Lantern Plant“

Consort Gyokuyou’s labor proceeds safely thanks to Maomao’s breech birth treatment. Meanwhile, Jinshi investigates the missing eunuch “Tian”, who had infiltrated the palace and frequently visited a graveyard for women deflowered by the late emperor. There, he confronts Shenlü, who deduces Jinshi’s identity by his resemblance to the young former emperor.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) season 3

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Single Fine Thread“

Only two safely navigable routes between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance, and they are fighting over the Iserlohn Corridor. But never forget the Fezzan Corridor, ruled by the Dominion of Fezzan and its economic strength. Their leader and the Earth Cult Bishop both have their ambitions.

Bye Bye, Earth (“Bai Bai, Aasu”) season 2

Despite having incredible fighting skills and the strength to wield the enormous sword Runding, Belle Lablac has grown up as an outcast due to being the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Desperate to find a place where she belongs, she goes on a quest to find others like her.

Tonight’s Episode: “Mania: Nowhere“

As Adonis and Sherry reach an area with flaming pillars deep in the God tree, the blind girl is dismissed. Adonis attacks Sherry with zombies, aiming to add her to the Army of Insatiable Emptiness, but she defends herself with her magical song. Belle arrives and wipes out the zombies before fighting Adonis while Kitty teleports Sherry away. Dram and Sian appear and trap Belle in a tornado of miasma. But the tree is not the true god, and only Belle is truly free of its control.

Solo Leveling

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “You’ve Been Hiding Your Skills“

At a three-way junction, the group splits up. Kang Taeshik uses the opportunity to murder the prisoners (having previously been bribed by the father of one of their victims). When Jeongho and Sangshik’s path leads them to stumble upon the scene, Kang kills them to cover it up. Jin-woo, Joo-hee, and Mr. Song discover the aftermath; Jin-woo reveals his newfound power.

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (“Re: Life in a Different World from Zero”) season 3

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favour, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

Tonight’s Episode: “Liliana Masquerade“

Priscilla survives Sirius’ attack unscathed, revealing her power to transfer any damage towards herself to one of her valuable items. Sirius attempts to reaffirm her desire for a “mutual understanding” with everyone, but when Liliana calls her out on the absurdities of it, her facade is broken and she retaliates in a rage. While Priscilla continues fighting, Liliana reaches the top of the tower to sing her song towards the brainwashed civilians.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) season 2

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “Something Precious“

Evidence surfaces that Gettan had made his own fake banknotes for the cult to undermine Mitsugoshi, giving Alpha hope Cid only created his fake banknotes to undermine the cult first. This is confirmed by a coded letter from Cid explaining his motives and the location of the gold, which Alpha retrieves for Shadow Garden. Delta returns. Cid is relieved everything worked out but is then stunned to find the gold gone; having never imagined Shadow Garden would decode his dramatic coded letter, and mistakenly decides Gettan has stolen his gold.
