JAFWA continues in June (Winter Hours:- 4:15PM->9:45PM)

Let jubilation hold sway, for now the jolly month of June will be hosting JAFWA. Come, let our anime screening warm your soul.
An important consideration for June is that we are opening nominations for our fully signed up financial members (at least 3 months, and resident of WA) to run in the JAFWA committee members elections.

Remember that in July we will be having our Annual General Meeting and committee elections, as per incorporation rules. What item do you want raised at the AGM, and who of our signed up members wish to run/rule JAFWA?

This week at JAFWA we will resume the story of “Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World” after it went on hiatus in Japan for a few months.
Also we have a preview episode of another anime from Japan. We are all going to die someday, but what happens if you are cursed to die in a year, and yet there exists a possible way to cancel the curse?

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Apocalypse Hotel

There is a solitary hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district. After society has collapsed, humanity has disappeared, and nature has begun to reclaim most of the land. Despite the lack of guests, Yachiyo is a hotel management robot who continues to manage the Ginzar? hotel alongside other robots.

This Evening’s Episode: “Our Only Vice is Service“

After a century of staying at the hotel, the Prociones have given up on repairing their spaceship and instead use its parts to build a new home nearby. Suddenly, an alien named Harmaggeddon lands on the planet, intending to destroy human civilization but is left confused when Yachiyo informs him that humanity has already abandoned the planet.

Mob Psycho 100 III

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

This Evening’s Episode: “Divine Tree 2 ~Peace~“

Mob enters the Divine Tree, where he’s met with the pestering voice of “Psycho Helmet”, as he states his goals and desires, while questioning if Mob appreciates the attention of the crowd. He discovers the contained Teru and Psycho Helmet, who he recognizes as Dimple.

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective (“Ameko Takao no Suiri Karte” literally “Ameku Takao’s Mystery Medical Record”)

Dr. Takao Ameku is the brilliant yet eccentric director of investigative pathology at Tenikai General Hospital, in charge of diagnosing patients the other hospital departments cannot. However, due to her love of solving mysteries, Takao also gets involved with mysterious deaths and murders, all while dragging along her assistant Yu Takanashi in her various adventures.

This evening’s Episode: “Spontaneous Human Combustion“

Dr Takao is invited to meet Professor Muneharu Murota, who asks her to investigate a curse he fears has been placed on him. He explains that he has been studying the life of the infamous Onmy?ji Enzo Ashiya, who is said to have cursed ten people to death. Recently, Murota and his team finally tracked down the location of Enzo’s tomb and managed to unearth his corpse, only for them to start suffering grave illnesses.

Of course, such tears aren’t easy to come by. As Meg begins her quest, she finds herself drawn into the lives of her friends and neighbours in ways she never imagined. By sharing their burdens and using her magic to comfort them, she learns how precious those moments of connection can be, even in the face of death.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Witch With One Year to Live“

Apprentice witch Meg Raspberry turns 17 and her master, Ms Faust of the Seven Sages, bluntly informs her Meg will die in one year from the curse Death Sentence. The only cure is to collect tears of joy from 1000 people in a special bottle which can be used to create a Seed of Life and grant Meg immortality. How is an apprentice witch supposed to be able to get tears of happiness?

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) season 2

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favourite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “Festering Resentment“

While preparing moxibustion for Consort Gyokuyou, Maomao learns her foster father Luomen has been assigned to the doctor’s office with Guen, so he’ll also be able to aid Consort Lihua if necessary. Luomen writes warnings about issues in the rear palace in simple, childish wording, and asks Maomao to have the servant’s vocational school use it for writing practice, and, as Maomao realises, as a means to easily mass produce the warning. The notice warns against lead-based makeup, strong scents, and picking palace plants without permission.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) season 3

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “First Campaign“

While processing prisoners at Iserlohn, Admiral Dusty Attenborough’s people learn to not insult Fleet Admiral Lohengramm. The Imperials have fanatical loyalty to their Prime Minister thanks to his reforms. Leaving Yang somewhat worried. Lohengramm is recruiting useful people to assist with his reforms. But there are Imperials with worries, and a lonely dog looking for a home.

Bye Bye, Earth (“Bai Bai, Aasu”) season 2

Despite having incredible fighting skills and the strength to wield the enormous sword Runding, Belle Lablac has grown up as an outcast due to being the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Desperate to find a place where she belongs, she goes on a quest to find others like her.

Tonight’s Episode: “Aufheben: When Flowers Shed Their Buds and Bloom“

As the court lowers King Lowhide’s body into a lake inside the tree, Sherry reveals she has sided with Adonis by singing a song to open a path inside the tree so they can question the god directly. Gaff tries to stop them, but Adonis summons the Army of Insatiable Emptiness and Sherry tells Gaff and his men that they will be forsaken by the god if they fight them. With no choice, Gaff orders Belle, Bennett, and Guinness released.

Solo Leveling

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Jin-ho offers Jin-woo a building in exchange for his help in fulfilling requirements for guild certification; Jin-woo rejects the offer. Jin-woo notices his daily mission goals keep incrementing past the requirements. Meanwhile Dongsuk’s younger brother, the S-rank Dongsoo, blames Jin-woo and Jin-ho and swears revenge.

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (“Re: Life in a Different World from Zero”) season 3

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favour, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

Tonight’s Episode: “City Scramble“

The battle to retake the city from the fours Archbishops of Sin commences. As Priscilla suits up alongside Liliana to confront Sirius, she entrusts the protection of city hall to Al, as well as telling Liliana someone other than the Witch Cult has been hunting down the Council of Ten. Garfiel and Wilhelm find Capella and the corpse cultists, engaging in battle with Kurgan and Theresia respectively. At the church, Regulus halts Subaru and Reinhard from attacking him by threatening to kill his wives.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) season 2

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

The Clovers are sent to Mitsugoshi to kill the CEO Luna, Gamma’s public alias, but the clumsy Gamma insists on dealing with them herself. Gettan decides to act himself, determined to attain the power needed for revenge on the boy who scarred his face years ago, Stylish Bandit Slayer, aka the younger Cid. Yukime prints millions of fake banknotes and feeds them into the economy via Lawless City.
