JAFWA continues in May

May is no longer quite so merry for your MC, due to a mistake he made with the program last week. But fear not on my behalf, because as has been said in software development – “yesterday’s bug is tomorrow’s feature”. Thus the dynamic excitement of JAFWA continues as the program continues to evolve.

The JAFWA is too full of goodness this week for a preview item. My mistake last week was showing “Gun Gale Online”. JAFWA does apologies for including GGOs2 in last week’s screening – it is not due to be shown until August. Sorry.
Please enjoy two episodes of “Bye, Bye Earth” this week.

Remember that in July we will be having our AGM and committee elections. What item do you want raised at the AGM, and who of our signed up members wish to run/rule JAFWA?

If you strongly feel that JAFWA is neglecting certain well-deserving anime, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Apocalypse Hotel

There is a solitary hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district. After society has collapsed, humanity has disappeared, and nature has begun to reclaim most of the land. Despite the lack of guests, Yachiyo is a hotel management robot who continues to manage the Ginzarou hotel alongside other robots.

This Evening’s Episode: “A Smile is the Ultimate Ambiance“

Fifty years after the first alien guest left, Yachiyo is overjoyed to see another alien ship crash land in Ginza. The occupants are the Procione family, who claim they are human but are in fact intelligent tanuki taking on the guise of humans. Yachiyo, believing they are humans, welcomes them as guests until Environment Checker Robot activates his combat mode and causes the entire family to faint in fright, exposing their true forms.

Mob Psycho 100 III

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

This Evening’s Episode: “Yokai Hunter Amakusa Haruaki Appears! ~The Threat of a Hundred Demons!!~“

For the upcoming Culture Festival at Salt Middle School, Mob and some of his classmates are assigned to work on the costumes for their class’ haunted house. While his partners suggest a simple ghost sheet to use, Mob wants to put in something with more effort. Meanwhile, Reigen is approached by supposed Yokai Hunter Haruaki Amakusa, requesting his assistance in tracking down yokai known as the “Hundred Demons” located within the city.

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective (“Ameko Takao no Suiri Karte” literally “Ameku Takao’s Mystery Medical Record”)

Dr. Takao Ameku is the brilliant yet eccentric director of investigative pathology at Tenikai General Hospital, in charge of diagnosing patients the other hospital departments cannot. However, due to her love of solving mysteries, Takao also gets involved with mysterious deaths and murders, all while dragging along her assistant Yu Takanashi in her various adventures.

This evening’s Episode: “Blue Blood Cell and Dragon Fangs“

Sakurai finds Kumade’s blood on the T. Rex and reveals Kumade was a gang member. His body was discovered by construction workers who sought help from Dr. Hachisuka at a nearby clinic. Takao deduces Kumade was responsible for a shooting in Nerima City and Sakurai confirms Kumade shot a Yakuza boss and is believed to have been killed in revenge, risking a gang war. Takao finds more blue blood at the museum and deduces Hachisuka is the culprit and has Sakurai apprehend him when he breaks into the museum.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) season 2

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favourite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “The Dancing Ghost“

Maomao, accompanied by Jinshi and Gaoshun, investigates a ghost sighting at Lishu’s pavilion. They quickly notice the dismissive and disdainful attitude of Lishu’s ladies-in-waiting. Once the attendants are cleverly dismissed by Jinshi, Lishu opens up: she explains that she is forced to bathe late at night as she waited for her bathwater to go cold, as her attendants always make the water too hot. During these baths, she has seen what seems to be a ghostly white face laughing through the curtains.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) season 3

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Twin Pillars“

The aftermath of the Battle of the Iserlohn Corridor reveals how much stress Duke Reinhard is under after winning the civil war in the Empire. Many things now fall to his faithful two best admirals Mittemeyer and Reuenthal as they help each other through their long friendship. This is their story.

Bye Bye, Earth (“Bai Bai, Aasu”) season 2

Despite having incredible fighting skills and the strength to wield the enormous sword Runding, Belle Lablac has grown up as an outcast due to being the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Desperate to find a place where she belongs, she goes on a quest to find others like her.

Tonight’s Episode: “Entreaty: A Paradise that Entrusts Death” and “Confrontation: A Wish Barely Clung To“

Guinness says Ginbuck asked him to make a paradise shift (a change in the world) and charges everyone to question the world, having recently learned the kingdom’s healing ashes are made from corpses not given proper burials. Adonis attacks Kitty and stabs him, then steals a vial of poisonous ashes before throwing him into a river. After talking to Sian, Adonis enters the castle and exposes the King to the ashes. To save all, Belle will need to commit blasphemy.

Solo Leveling

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “I’ve Gotta Get Stronger“

In the Instance Dungeon, Jin-woo successfully kills the wolf and gains a level. He continues through the dungeon, killing more wolves and gaining strength before facing the dungeon’s boss. Elsewhere, a dungeon break occurs, allowing a golem to enter the real world after its dungeon was not properly cleared.

Uzumaki (literally “spiral”)

Kirei lives in a town that lately has odd occurrences, and each one somehow is connected to a spiral. Soon the spiral occurrences spread to infect even the bodies of people, which suddenly turns the everyday events in her life into chaos and horror.

Tonight’s Episode: “Episode 3“

Kirie is admitted to the town’s hospital for her burns. Also at the hospital, Toshio appears to Yukie in the form of a millipede, wanting to crawl into the spiral that is already in her ear, her cochlea. Spiral shaped swarms of mosquitoes have been biting women about to give birth. It gets worse.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) season 2

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Haven“

Juggernaut and Yukime ignore Cid to break into Blood Queen Elizabeth’s tower. White Devil attacks Cid but is cut to pieces. Beta encounters Claire and Mary and reveals Shadow Garden intends to steal Elizabeth’s blood for research. Queen Elizabeth sought peace by helping vampires give up drinking blood. This enabled vampires to walk in the sun and build a community alongside humans she called the Haven. As a Progenitor Vampire, Queen Elizabeth’s desire for blood never diminished, and during the Red Moon 1000 years ago she went mad and slaughtered everyone in Haven.
