JAFWA continues to gather steam in 2025 as we introduce the remainder of our new program. Can you feel the heat?

This week we start Stone Age space travel, continue the story of an obsessed poison taster, Overlord it over a conquered kingdom, and debate the finer points of mysticism versus believing in whats out there. And we manage to throw in a Preview Episode involving the medieval Inquisition and the heresy that the Earth is not the center of the universe.

If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did last year, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash (“Saijaku Teimaa wa Gomihiroi no Tabi o Hajimemashita”)

Young Ivy can’t catch a break. Though she has a few memories of her past life, she was reborn into an RPG-like world in the weakest class, and worse, as the weakest rank. As a no-star Tamer, even her parents want nothing to do with her, and she soon realizes she must survive on her own. She learns to live off the land and salvage what she can from other people’s leavings. But when Ivy manages to tame Sora, a lowly slime, everything changes for both of them. There’s something special about this frail little monster, and Ivy’s care will bring out the best in both of them.

This Evening’s Episode: “To Latoto Village“

Using the survival skills learned from her past life, Ivy hunts field mice for food, and then evades a pack of giant ants by climbing a tree. Ivy sets off for the town of Otolwa but long the way, she sees wanted posters for Femicia with a 500 dal reward. Trying to avoid capture, sell her trappings and restock on potions is proving difficult. Never forgetting the monsters.

Dr Stone season 4 “Science Future”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. After the battle on Treasure Island, Senku and the gang return to the Kingdom of Science. With their sights set on the Moon, they must first voyage to the Americas in hopes of beginning to harvest the required materials. Through teamwork and science, they continue the fight to save humanity once and for all.

This Evening’s Episode: “Ryusui vs. Senku“

It is determined the enemy that caused petrification is determined to be on the Moon. To restart the space program our odd crew of science heroes will have to sail the Pacific to restart America. This is their stories. But already Senku is arguing with Capt Ryusui on the route, and it divides the crew. The battle will be fierce and a gamble.

That Time I Was Re-incarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) season 2 part b

37-year-old Satoru Mikami died at the hands of a robber, he awakens to a fresh start in a new world…as the lowest of the low – a slime monster. Now champion of monsters Rimuru Tempest ends the orc war and earns the esteemed title as Slime Chancellor. Now that the Jura Tempest Alliance is growing even further, they will now be meeting the animal kingdom of Eurazania, reuniting with King Gazel, rising tensions between monsters and humans, and Rimuru encountering the strongest enemy he’s ever faced.

Rimuru calms Ramiris down and has Veldora watch over her. After the conference ends with Tempest strengthening their ties with their allied nations and Youm’s endorsement as the future king of Farmenas with Mjurran by his side, Rimuru and his friends turn their attention to their imminent confrontation with Clayman, who is making preparations for the upcoming Walpurgis.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) season 2

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favourite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “Maomao and Maomao“

Rimuru calms Ramiris down and has Veldora watch over her. Oshi no Ko (“My Favorite Idol” or “Their Idol’s Children”) season 2

Goro Amemiya works as an OB-GYN in a small rural town and is a huge fan of upcoming idol Ai Hoshino. After an unexpected meeting, Goro ends up dying suddenly only to be reborn as one of Ai’s children; a boy named Aquamarine Hoshino (or Aqua for short). He and his twin sister Ruby then grows up as one of show-biz’s biggest secrets.
As Aqua continues his quest to find his father—the puppet master behind his mother’s murder—within the Japanese entertainment industry, he finds himself acting in a stage play based on the wildly popular manga Tokyo Blade. Surrounded by competent professionals— including his friends Kana and Akane—it looks like this will be one of his easier jobs… If only things could be that easy.

Tonight’s Episode: “Game of Telephone“

In a flashback to the cast’s preliminary meeting, Akane was glad to co-star alongside Aqua again, stoking Kana’s jealousy. Melt later apologized to Kana for doing a poor job on the Sweet Today series and promised he had improved his acting since then. Back in the present, mangaka Abiko is furious at GOA for refusing to listen to any of her input and changing the personalities of many of her characters. With rehearsals on hold until the new script is finalized, Akane invites Aqua on a date to show him a modern theater play.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari) season 3

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a fantasy world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers.

Tonight’s Episode: “The White Tiger Siblings“

Fohl and Atla are bought by Naofumi, who uses one of his potions to heal Atla. Naofumi returns to Seyaette with the freed demi-humans, making preparations to bolster their defenses, while Fohl helps his sister recover. Queen Mirellia tells Naofumi about Aultcray’s days as the Staff Hero, how he used to be a renowned warrior and tactician, fighting for the sake of his younger sister, until her death left him vengeful and ruthless.

preview – Orb: On the Movements of the Earth (“Chi: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite”)

In fifteenth-century Europe, heretics are being burned at the stake. Rafal, a brilliant young man, is expected to enter university at an early age and study the era’s most important field, theology. But Rafal values Reason above all else, which leads him both to the shocking conclusion that the Earth orbits the Sun, and into the hands of the Inquisition.

Tonight’s Episode: “Heliocentrism. How About That?“

The price one pays for truth. In the 15th century, A scholar has hidden research materials that blaspheme against Church doctrine, and the Inquisitor is asking where. The cunning honour student Rafal is off to university to study Theology. But an encounter with a recanted heretic will introduce him to the heresy of heliocentrism.

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re: Life in a Different World from Zero) season 3

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favour, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Showdown of Fire and Ice“

Realising he has only a few minutes until Sirius’ attack, Subaru rushes over to the tower in an attempt to rescue the kid, Lusbel, learning that she also has captured his friend, Tina. However, Subaru finds himself inexplicably overcome by Lusbel’s intense emotions, stalling him long enough for Sirius to arrive and hang Subaru down the tower with her metal chain, killing him. Several more respawn attempts, including using Reinhard and Emilia.

Overlord season 4

With his foundations now set in this new world, the first steps of Ains Ooal Gown’s master plan apparent begin to come to fruition. The value of Carne village and especially the political value of his alter ego Momon are reaffirmed; the “hidden” genius of his actions is continuously met with shock and awe by Demiurge, Albedo, the rest of his guardians, and even Ains himself at his “great wisdom.” His attempts to act in a way befitting the ruler of Nazarick, continuing to further cement his guardian’s loyalty, push him ever further down the path of not-so-intentional world domination.

Tonight’s Episode: “Sorcerous Nation of Ainz Ooal Gown“

Ainz is depressed to be surrounded only by loyal servants and misses his former guild members. Ainz establishes an orphanage in E-Rantel to identify talented individuals at a young age for the benefit of Nazarick. He also hires widows of the dead Re-Estize soldiers as workers to provide them with a living.. But his Gaurdians dtill fight over him, and the merachants are afraid.

DanDaDan

Takakura, an occult maniac who doesn’t believe in ghosts, and Ayase, a girl who doesn’t believe in aliens, try to overcome their differences when they encounter the paranormal.

Tonight’s Episode: “That’s How Love Starts, Ya Know!“

After a bad breakup with her boyfriend, Momo Ayase briefly defends a loner student from some bullies. Shortly after the period ends, the two get into an argument over an occult magazine, as the student believes in the existence of extraterrestrial aliens while Momo believes in the existence of supernatural entities. Momo and the student then challenge each other to prove their respective beliefs are real, with Momo going to an abandoned hospital to contact a UFO and the student going to an isolated tunnel to find a spirit. Pity it all works.
