JAFWA welcomes you to February!
Our usual program continues with several series approaching their end, meaning March will be a lot of new regular series. Though we have a preview episode of a remake of an old JAFWA favourite, this version closer to the source manga.

We are also thinking of having a retro-anime timeslot, but which generation(s)-old show should we go with. We may put on a bean poll soon to find out, but first, do you have any suggestions?

The Devil Is a Part-Timer! (Hataraku Maou-sama!) season 2

Having been thwarted in his attempts to conquer Ente Isla, the mighty demon lord Satan escapes through a portal with his general Alciel… And winds up in modern day Tokyo with very little magical power left. His resources for world domination now consist of a tiny rented apartment and a job at a fast food restaurant. To survive and find a way to return to Ente Isla, Satan adopts the name Sadao Maou and finds that the Hero Emilia is in similar circumstances.

This evening’s Episode: “The Devil Adamantly Insists on Buying a TV”

Maou argues with Alciel about wanting to get a television in their room, for both personal and practical reasons, and is able to convince him after haggling down the price to an appropriate amount. That night, Emi and Suzuno discuss their worries about what would happen if the Devil King’s army returns to force Maou back to the demon realm.

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujou) season 3

The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again.

This evening’s Episode: “Ominous Developments”

Baby Dirk has the Devouring, but getting him adopted by a noble will upset Delia. Is there another way to save Dirk’s life? Heidi is getting into trouble solving the coloured ink problem. While Main’s father has an emergency at the East Gate, that upsets the High Priest. Perhaps a different tactic.

Spy x Family part 2

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This evening’s Episode: “A Revenge Plot Against Desmond / Mama Becomes the Wind”

Anya foils George Glooman’s plans to get Damian expelled as revenge for putting his family’s company out of business. After gaining sympathy from his classmates, they send him off with a heartfelt farewell. Later, after sending Anya off to school, Yor realizes she left her gym clothes behind and rushes off to the school, only to find out there is no gym class on that day. Loid meets Yor and decides to invite her to lunch to improve her mood.

preview item – Trigun Stampede

Vash the Stampede is a gunman on the run with a 60 billion double dollar bounty on his head which has made it difficult for him to go anywhere without being chased and shot at. Because of the bounty, every town he ever visit ends up being destroyed because of his pursuers. However there are a couple of Reporters who want to hear the real story of Vash and his brother.

This evening’s Episode: “Noman’s Land ”

A spacefaring colonization fleet suffers a catastrophe, forcing a woman named Rem to sacrifice herself to send two young boys, Vash and Knives, to the nearby planet Noman’s Land. Many years later, the survivors of the colony fleet manage to survive Noman’s Land’s harsh climate thanks to plants, which provide much needed water and electricity. Vash meanwhile has become an infamous outlaw nicknamed “Vash the Stampede” with a massive bounty on his head, and is found by a couple of reporters named Meryl Stryfe and Roberto De Niro who protect him from military police seeking to apprehend him to earn the bounty.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) second season

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “Ignition Point”

The Goldenbaum dynasty has ruled the Galactic Empire for 500 years, but is it coming to an end? Hilda von Mariendorf has opinions on Lohengramm’s incipient civil war. The factions maneouver, nut Lohengramm has planned ahead.

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun (Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou) season 2

An orphan girl named Riko who lives in the town of Ousu on an island in the sea of Beoluska. The city surrounds a strange, giant hole going deep into the earth, which is commonly called the Abyss. The Abyss harbours artefacts and remnants of a civilisation long gone, and is therefore the popular hunting spot for so-called Cave Raiders, who undertake arduous and dangerous descends into the mist-filled pit to recover whatever relics they can find. However, the deeper one goes into the Abyss, the more one is afflicted by a progressively fatal malady called the Curse of the Abyss; few who have descended into the lower regions have returned to tell of their experiences.

Tonight’s Episode: “Value”

Faputa knocks Reg out and then tries to attack Riko, believing her to be the reason for his amnesia. However, her companion Gaburoon intervenes, shielding Riko and taking heavy damage in the process. Nanachi and Belaf then arrive, with Belaf allowing Faputa to attack him. As she kills him, Belaf transfers his memories of Vueko and Irumyuui to her, wishing for her to find her own value

Jujutsu Kaisen

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.

Tonight’s Episode: “Curse Womb Must Die – II”

Sukuna holds Yuji hostage by ripping his heart out so that if they switch back, Yuji would die. Megumi fights Sukuna but is overpowered; Sukuna is intrigued by Megumi’s hidden potential. Megumi says that his will to save others came after seeing his sister fall into a coma from a cursed spirit. Megumi and Nobara meet second-years Maki Zen’in, Toge Inumaki, and Panda (an anthropomorphic panda) who inform them that they will be participating in the Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event.

Tokyo Revengers

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.

Tonight’s Episode: “Rerise”

Takemichi, Emma, and Hinata call an ambulance for the stabbed Draken, but they are cornered by Moebius while waiting for it to arrive. Takemichi fights Kiyomasa to protect Draken and the girls and his hand is stabbed in the process, but he wins by choking Kiyomasa to the point of unconsciousness. But will it be enough to save Drakken?

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Meko Oyasi” season 3

Sugimoto’s group head north on two dog sleds but become separated in a blinding snow storm. Sugimoto, Tanigaki, and Cikapasi reach the shoreline and they dig in to weather the storm using the dogs for warmth. Meanwhile, Koito, Ogata and Enonoka find shelter in a farmhouse. When the farmer returns, he shows them an old lighthouse on the property with a Fresnel lens beacon which can be seen from a great distance.

SummerTime Rendering

Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island.

Tonight’s Episode: “All is (not) lost”

Hizuru is able to discern from memories of past loops, that Shide’s goals might be different from Haine’s and tries to pit them against each other. Ryuunosuke is able to disarm Shide, after which Hizuru transfers his data directly into Shide’s armor, which is composed of empty Shadows, allowing Ryuunosuke to take control of the armor and create his own body. Meanwhile Shinpei and Shadow Mio face their own threat. Does looping help?
