No Screening this Saturday, 4th February 2023

No JAFWA until Saturday 11th February 2023!

Hopefully the news that we are skipping a weekend will not be too disappointing, especially to all the new faces that showed up last week. Though if you attend the Hall next Saturday afternoon, you are likely to encounter the local Doctor Who club. And if you are out Guildford way, there is Oddities & Anime Market.

But never Fear! It does appear that local cinemas will soon be screening later this week another anime movie – Sword Art Online: Progressive -Scherzo of Deep Night at Event Cinemas and Hoyts Carousel. This is the sequel to “Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night”, and seems to expand on the events in the first season of the anime. You will have to check which screenings will be dubbed into English, and which properly subbed, so plan appropriately.

Dale’s Suggestive Remarks

At long last we have an entry in our suggestion box. In fact two suggestions from Saturday 28th of January.
Both Suggestions are anonymous, but the hand-writing appears different

  • Gate, thus the JSDF fought there

An excellent little anime, where the isekai genre was too new to be ubiquitously annoying, where the JSDF had to deal with and inter-dimensional invasion, where the invaders were a little too low-tech, and in the protagonist we all saw our otaku selves. JAFWA screened all 24 episode of “Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri” back in 2016, hence it is a little too soon to request it for the retro-anime timeslot (when that resumes, possibly later in February).
As a side note, our dear JAFWAites enjoyed this series so much that one of our members even ordered the rather expensive “Rory Mercury” figure. That was gorgeous, and I am trying not to be jealous.

  • Girls Frontline
    Feb 22

OK, I must admit I missed this when it first came out. Thankfully there is such a large quantity of anime being produced each Season that overlooking some titles is easy enough to accomplish. According to skimming trusty Wikipedia, this is based off of a Chinese made strategy RPG for mobile phones, then converted into an anime in Japan. We will attempt to dig up a copy from Feb 22. and the JAFWA committee will evaluate whether it should have a preview episode sometime.
