The month of September comes to an end all too soon at JAFWA.
As well as farewelling some more of our regular series (“Lupin III” and the current season of “Attack on Titan”), we will have our normal end of month activities.

• The monthly survey to determine what of our shows are most popular, both regular items of recent preview items.
• The monthly Member’s Prize draw!
• Two episodes of “Lupin III”, to bring the 6^th series to a close.
• Two episodes of “Rising of the Shield Hero”, to help make up for missing out last week.

And we even have a preview episode, with a ridiculously long title, before the Survey.

Don’t forget that this is the last week of Winter hours. Come October we go back to our usual 5:15PM start.

Japanese Calendars

It is that time of year again – when Japanese calendars for 2023 go on pre-order. If I (the JAFWA MC) get enough interest, I will probably order from here. It is very early yet, so only a small number of calendars have been listed so far. The link I gave pointed to only Anime calendars, but the left menu shows other categories if you are interested.
This site may be slightly more up-to-date in titles being listed.

The Australian dollar is not buying much these days, but if we bundle our orders together, we should be able to get cheaper shipping rates. And if we order very soon, we may get pre-order discounts (eg another site with rather expensive postage rates).

Cash for Containers

As people may have noticed, JAFWA collects the recyclable containers (cans and bottles) that are disposed of by our attendees. It helps in a small way.

Dates of Interest

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

• May to September 2022 — JAFWA’s Winter hours, where we start (~4:15PM) and finish (~9:45PM), an hour earlier than normal.
• Wednesday 21^st September 2022, 4PM to 7PM — JSS Matsuri 2022. Located at UWA – Oak Lawn (free entry), the Japanese Studies Society (JSS) is holding their annual Matsuri.
• October 2022 onwards — JAFWA’s returns to normal hours, where we start (~5:15PM) and finish (~10:45PM), an hour later than Winter.
• Saturday October 1^st 2022, 10AM to 4PM — Tokyo Alley is holding their second mini-event Tokyo Market. Free entry to Citiplace Community Cebtre just outside Perth Train station.
• Saturday October 1^st 2022, 5PM to 10PM — Anime on Show at the Guildford Twilight Market. Located at Stirling Square, just past the Guildford Train Station.
• October 8^th 2022, 9AM to 12 Midday — Nexus Toy Fair at Leisurelife Centre, 34 Kent St, East Vic Park.
• October 15^th and 29^th 2022, 10AM to 4PM — Kai-con’s Artist Market. Free entry to Citiplace Community Centre just outside Perth Train station.
• Saturday November 5^th 2022, 9AM to 4PM — JAFWA fund raising Bunnings sausage sizzle at Cannignton Bunnings. Volunteers requested.
• November 5^th and 6^th 2022, 9AM to 5PM — Anime in the Valley. Located at the Swan Settlers Market in Herne Hill. Free entry.
• November 19^th to 20^th 2022, 10AM to 6PM — [ KaiCon ] Kaiga Anime Convention 2022 at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
• Sunday November 27^th 2022 — Collectors Zone Toy and Hobby Fair at ECU Sports Fitness Centre, Joondalup.

Log Horizon series III – Destruction of the Round Table

It’s been a year since Shiroe and his friends were trapped in Akiba due to the Catastrophe. Their forging of the Round Table has brought order and prosperity to its people. But fracturing political alliances and the constant menace of the Genius monsters threaten to destabilize all they’ve fought for and built.

This evening’s Episode: “Labyrinth in Akiba”

Ereinus uses his powers to teleport all adventurers in Akiba to an alternate space filled with Level 65 monsters while reducing their levels to 35. While running away, Shiroe deduces that the Genius have learned to use the game mechanics against them, taking advantage of the “Teacher System”, that temporarily reduces the levels of higher ranked players to those of their lower-level companions.

Spy x Family

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This evening’s Episode: “Show Off How in Love You Are”

Yuri attempts to stop the kiss after having second thoughts and receives a slap from a drunk and embarrassed Yor. Ultimately, Yuri refuses to accept the marriage, albeit recognizing Loid’s good nature. Loid begins to suspect Yor having connection with the SSS, while Yor is insecure about her incompetence as a wife.

preview item – Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town (Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu You na Monogatari)

These are peaceful days, thanks to a secret crime-fighting organization of all-girl agents: Lycoris. The elite free-spirited Chisato is their all-time strongest agent, alongside the coolheaded talented-but-mysterious Takina. Working together at a café, they serve coffee and sweets as well as childcare, shopping, and teaching Japanese. The chaotic everyday lives of this mismatched duo begin.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town? ”

Lloyd lives in Kunlun Village with his grandfather and older brother. Years later, he travels to Azami Kingdom where he will be staying with the East Side Witch, Marie, while he takes the soldier exam. Marie almost refuses until he produces a magic crystal, which summons his village chief, Alka, Marie’s former master. Alka tells Marie to look after Lloyd. Marie learns that Lloyd, who considers himself to be weak, is actually very powerful.

Lupin III – part 6

The World’s greatest gentleman thief Lupin III, and cohorts, contending with detective Sherlock Holmes when Lupin becomes the top suspect in the murder of the former’s longtime partner, Dr. Watson. Lupin is also after a treasure hidden by The Raven, a mysterious organisation that manipulates the British government from the shadows

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Memories of a Beloved Witch” and “What Crooks Love ” finale

Lupin, Goemon, and Jigen encounter Zenigata, revealing he’s chasing Mattea, who apparently stabbed Ariana and killed Hazel, to Lupin’s shock. Zenigata shows him Arianna’s recording, and when Lupin hears the words from his mother’s poem containing a hypnotic suggestion, he attacks Zenigata and his colleagues, and escapes with Mattea’s help. Zenigata interviews Mercedes in prison about Tomoe and discovers a link to Mahiko Village, Jigen and Goemon seek help from the Professor, who wants to learn more about Lupin’s past, and Fujiko attempts and fails to reason with Lupin.
For the unsympathetic Tomoe has tutored women from different countries to carry a code in different languages that would lead Lupin back to her. And kill him. All to protect the secret in the box.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari) season 2

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a fantasy world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Ost Hourai” and “Racing to Catch Up”

L’Arc reveals to the group that they don’t intend on fighting them and are instead there to deal with the person who woke up the Spirit Tortoise. He suggests a truce with Naofumi to take him down, but he bluntly refuses, not wanting to work with people he’ll have to fight later, so they go their separate ways. But Ost Hourai is not who she thinks she is, and the Spirit Tortoise will revive, under the control of Kyo Ethnina, wielder of the Book Vassal Weapon.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Sound of an Ambush” season 2

At a village near Lake Kussharo, Sugimoto’s group learn about a group of blind bandits led by a man with strange tattoos. Shiraishi identifies him as Toni Anji, an Abashiri prisoner. The group is attacked by the bandits while the men are bathing in an onsen, but are rescued by Hijikata and Ushiyama, who are seeking Anji’s tattoo.

Summer Time Rendering

Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island.

Tonight’s Episode: “My Flowing Tears”

The video on Ushio’s phone shows Ushio and Shadow-Ushio as friends. Ushio was aware she would probably die soon and wanted Shinpei to know Shadow-Ushio is not evil. She explains the first Shadow was Shiori’s with Shadow-Ushio appearing soon after. They tracked Shadow-Shiori to the islands old abandoned clinic once run by Sou’s father Seigo. There another Shadow attempted to copy Ushio and attacked Shadow-Ushio, injuring her by hitting her shadow and proving she was the copy.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part B

Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Dawn of Humanity”

Months before the assault on Liberio, the Scouts arrived on the Marley shoreline. On their way to visit Azumabito at her home, they witness the persecution received by Subjects of Ymir firsthand after rescuing a young thief named Ramzi from a mob of Marleyans. Azumabito informs the group that Marley has begun cracking down on Subjects of Ymir who escape their internment camps through use of blood tests. Hange hopes to forge peace by allying with the Subjects of Ymir Protection Group.
