We thank everyone who attended last week’s marathon anime afternoon. An apology for the movie running over-length, we are a little out of practice with marathon screenings. Hope everybody enjoyed the movie. Perhaps we should have more practice? Something to consider for the AGM in July.
At any rate, the episodes of “non non biyori repeat”, and “uramichi-oniisan” that we were forced to skip last week, will be pushed instead to this week.

We have reached the end of the month of April already. So you know what that means – the monthly JAFWA member prize.
Also, we will have our member survey, where you tell us what you enjoy on the JAFWA program by ranking regular items and recent preview items.
But that is not all! We have a preview episode before the Dinner Break, that will hopefully demonstrate the effort of taking it easy.

Still looking for a couple of volunteers to help out at our next Bunnings Sausage Sizzle fundraiser, to be held Saturday May 7^th at Cannington Bunnings.

Cash for Containers

As people may have noticed, JAFWA collects the recyclable containers (cans and bottles) that are disposed of by our attendees. It helps in a small way.

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contact Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.
– We are now required by City of South Perth to check our attendees’ Vaccine status.

Non Non Biyori – Repeat

In the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends. A year has passed

This evening’s Episode: “We Bravely Dove In ” season 2

Hotaru gets a letter from her friend in Tokyo while Hikage shows Renge her own pictures of Tokyo Tower before having to play dolls with her. Later, Hotaru ends up losing her bag on the bus, so she, Renge, and Hikage make their way over to the bus depot to look for it, coming across various sights along the way. Afterwards, Hotaru manages to work up the courage to dive into the river for a picture to send to her friends in Tokyo.

Uramichi-Oniisan

31-year-old Uramichi Omota has two sides to his personality. He appears as the young man in charge of physical exercises on the educational program “Maman to Together.” Although he has a fresh and upbeat demeanor on the show, he is actually a bit emotionally unstable, he can’t help but reveal his jaded, worn-out personality.

This evening’s Episode: “Servility and Conscience”

No matter the ups and downs he is feeling, Uramichi-san tries to get through to the kids. But the answers that Uramichi can so easily provide contain complex and dark overtones. Is the message he sends to kids OK? Usao-kun has money problems, and the social pressure on behaviour takes its toll. The Father’s Day special brings up painful memories.

Ya Boy Kongming!(Paripi Koumei) season 2

General of the Three Kingdoms, Kongming, had struggled his whole life, facing countless battles that made him into the accomplished strategist he was. So on his deathbed, he wished only to be reborn into a peaceful world… and was sent straight to modern-day party-central, Tokyo. The brilliant strategist Kongming will have to adapt to the wild beats and even wilder party people of the modern age.

This evening’s Episodes: “Kongming Descends Upon Shibuya”

In year of 234, near the end of the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang Kongming is struck down by illness and lies in his deathbed. In his final moments, he has a dying wish to reborn in a peaceful world without war. The next moment, he awakes as a younger version of himself in modern day Shibuya. Confused by his surroundings, Kongming wanders into a nearby bar where he witness a young singer Eiko Tsukimi perform, and is moved by her singing. The next day, Eiko finds Kongming passed out on the street and takes him to her home, where she teaches him the basics about modern Japan.

Fena: Pirate Princess (Kaizoku Oujo)

An orphan girl, Fena Houtman, has been raised on an Island where there is no hope of becoming anything more than chattel, to be used and discarded by soldiers of the British Empire. But Fena is more than just another powerless orphan. When her mysterious past comes knocking, Fena will break the chains of her oppressors.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Curtain Rises on the Climax ”

Fena and her crew sail out to the coordinates, where they come across an uncharted island rising out of the ocean. Meanwhile, an operative of the Royal Nave informs Cody the news of Fena’s travels. Abel instructs the captain of the Blue Giant to head to the coordinates in question.

Steins; Gate

Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” who believes that an international organization is conspiring to reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in order to save his precious lab members.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Dogma in Ergosphere ”

With the ability to utilize SERN’s LHC to compress memories into D-Mail size, Kurisu completes her time leap machine, capable of sending one’s memories up to two days into the past. However, Rintaro, still disturbed by the threatening texts he has received, decides against using the device.

Lupin III part 6

The World’s greatest gentleman thief Lupin III, and cohorts, contending with detective Sherlock Holmes when Lupin becomes the top suspect in the murder of the former’s longtime partner, Dr. Watson. Lupin is also after a treasure hidden by The Raven, a mysterious organisation that manipulates the British government from the shadows

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Truth and The Raven ”

Alex Jenkinson, a landshark who used aggressive tactics to acquire local property, is shot dead by someone he suspects is a Raven assassin. The next morning, local “Baker Street Irregulars” arrive and pub owner Derrick Barnes confirms Jenkinson’s movements. Lupin’s gang suspect the assassin also killed Lord Falkner, who was buying up local land. Holmes tells Lestrade and Zenigata that anyone interested in that land has died, and he offers a million pounds reward for the half of Falkner’s poster held by Lupin.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 2

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “Should Have Been ” Mugen Train arc

While the Demon Slayers remain asleep, Enmu’s instructs four vulnerable passengers to tie their wrists to them, fall asleep, and enter their dreams. Armed with a sharp pick, they must search for their spiritual core and destroy it, in order to render them incapacitated.

To Your Eternity (Fumetsu no Anata e) season 1

An omnipotent narrator casts an orb of light to the Earth, watching as this entity copies the shape of a rock and then, many years later, mimics the moss on a rock. When a wolf dies beside the moss, it evolves, taking on the creature’s shape and gaining movement for the first time. As the wolf, the orb observes the dead wolf’s owner, a young man who lives alone on a frozen tundra. The time the orb spends with the boy leaves a mark on the entity as it observes, mimics, and bonds with the boy and then the other creatures it eventually comes across—all while transcending death and living for time immemorial.

Tonight’s Episode: “Gift From the Past”

Owing to her sixteenth birthday coming soon, Rean is conflicted about being forced to marry another man as four years ago a drunken Gugu confessed his love for her. Gugu does not remember such a moment due to the extensive amount of alcohol in his stomach. He is then visited by his long-lost elder brother who wants to apologize for abandoning him.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

This evening’s Episode: “Complication ”

Sugimoto and Shiraishi fight Nihei, while Tanigaki captures Asirpa. Tanigaki is shot by a poisoned arrow after stepping in a deer trap, but is saved by Asirpa. Retar rushes to Asirpa’s aid with his mate, a grey wolf. Tanigaki is brought to Asirpa’s village to recover, and tells them that Tsurumi intends to use the gold to mount a military coup to form an independent Hokkaido.

Cells at Work! Code Black (Hataraku Saibou Burakku)

A newbie Red Blood Cell is one of 37 trillion working to keep this body running. But something’s wrong. Stress hormones keep yelling at him to go faster. The blood vessels are crusted over with cholesterol. Ulcers, fatty liver, trouble (ahem) downstairs… It’s hard for a cell to keep working when every day is a CODE BLACK.

This evening’s Episode: “Caffeine, Temptation, and Jealousy”

Some of the oxygen delivered turns into ROS, damaging the cells and causing them to blame the red blood cells. AA2153 gets an award for delivering the most oxygen out of the rookies, causing one of his friends, AC1677, to become jealous. AC1677 falls in with the veterans who bullied them and they get him addicted to caffeine and arginine, boosting his energy and allowing him to match AA2153’s pace.
