Screening on Saturday 19^th June 2021

Come all ye wonderful JAFWA members, and nominate for the upcoming annual JAFWA election (see below) and join the committee. Decide upon your election strategies, such as suggesting that there are too many isekai shows in the current program. Nominees will be invited to the next JAFWA committee meeting to see how it is done.

We thank Sally for last week’s sausage sizzle, and apologise that the extractor fan in the kitchen wasn’t working. Oh, but didn’t it smell wonderful.

This week at JAFWA we have a couple of preview items, one of which can pretend to be historical. Come along for the cultural immersion.

Annual General Meeting and Elections

Being an incorporated club, JAFWA needs to hold annual elections, which will be occurring in July.
Anyone can nominated to enter the elections, so long as they are:

1. A fully registered and paid up member of JAFWA for 3 months before the election.
2. Resident of WA.

If you haven’t done so before, being involved in a non-for-profit organisational committee is a great way to learn some new skills and be a part of something great. The JAFWA committee hopes to see you at the AGM to discuss the progress of your club, and looks forward to any new blood and ideas for the future of JAFWA.

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiraremasen)

The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again.

Tonight’s Episode: “Orphanage Reforms ” season 2

One day, Myne asks Gil to guide her to the orphanage area of the temple so she can see it for herself. However, they arrive at a locked underground bunker to see many of the children malnourished and bordering on insanity. Myne learns that the temple dismissed the previous priestess of the orphanage, forcing the children to exist aimlessly and starving, surviving off the leftovers Gil provides them.

That Time I Was Re-incarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) season 2

37-year-old Satoru Mikami died at the hands of a robber, he awakens to a fresh start in a new world…as the lowest of the low – a slime monster. Now champion of monsters Rimuru Tempest ends the orc war and earns the esteemed title as Slime Chancellor. Rimuru gives his last lessons to the children of Class S and Yohm returns to Tempest along his new companion, the magician Mjurran, unaware that she is a spy working for Clayman. Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Falmuth whose leaders view Tempest’s ascension as a threat to their commercial power make preparations to invade it.

Cells at Work season 2 (Hataraku Saibou)

The world is a dangerous place for a red blood cell just trying to get her deliveries finished. Fortunately, she’s not alone… she’s got a whole human body’s worth of cells ready to help out. The mysterious white blood cell, the buff and brash killer T cell, the nerdy neuron, even the cute little platelets — everyone’s got to come together if they want to keep you healthy.

This evening’s Episode: “Cytokines”

From last week, NK Cell attacks Normal Cell for insulting the immune cells, but U-1146 defuses the situation. Dendritic Cell rescues the lactic acid bacterium that fell into the storm drain and cares for it. The small intestine then gets attacked by influenza. The virus has mutated and are unaffected by the immune cells’ attacks, causing NK Cell to collapse in despair.

retro – Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

Utena Tenjou, a teenage girl who expresses her desire to be a prince through her strong-willed personality and tomboyish manner of dress. She finds herself drawn into a series of sword duels at Ohtori Academy, to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the “Rose Bride” who possesses the “power to revolutionize the world”.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Song of the Fallen Kingdom”

When Wakaba was little, she had a friend who protected her from bullies. Now, Tatsuya has transferred back, and it appears that the two of them are in love. When it turns out that this romance is actually a misunderstanding, Tatsuya ends up at the Mikage Seminar, but Mikage treats him differently from other students who visit.

Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”) – season 2

In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.

Tonight’s Episode: “Groping Through the Fire ”

Company 8 dispatches an increasing number of Infernals which Obi suspects are being created by Infernal Bugs. Shinra momentarily stops Charon and tries to convince Inca to join the Fire Force, but she refuses and runs off, seeking instead relief from her mundane existence. Meanwhile, a demon Infernal appears in addition to the large number of people infected by the Infernal Bugs, overwhelming the Fire Force.

Urasekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic)

College student Sorawo Kamikoshi has been exploring the strange dream-like world she calls the Otherside ever since she stumbled upon it during her days as an urban explorer, but her most recent trip has gotten her into serious trouble. That’s when she meets Toriko Nishina, a strange young woman searching the Otherside for her missing friend. Toriko helps Sorawo out of her predicament, and Sorawo falls into helping Toriko in her mission. But each journey into the Otherside brings strange new dangers and skills, and Sorawo isn’t sure that the search is worth it.

Tonight’s Episode: “Big-Head Village ”

Sorawo tries to sort through her feelings about Toriko when the two of them return to the Otherside to visit a shack that Satsuki might have used in the past. As they travel through the Otherside, they remember the man’s warnings about “glitches” and toss rocks along the path to ensure they do not die from a wrong step.

Major Yoshinobu Maeda arrives in Tokyo to rejoin Special Forces Unit 16, but is immediately taken to Tsukishima Island. It is difficult to have enough precautions when imprisoning a vampire. But the question is, can they make use of her? And find the one who infected her?

Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World (Ri:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) season 2

Slacker Subaru has been mysteriously transported into a fantasy world, and involved in the politics of royal ascension, and magical terrorist expression. After learning more behind the Death Loop and Witches of Sin, Subaru vows to save Emilia and his friends from further doom.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Maiden’s Gospel”

Respawning back in the Sanctuary graveyard, Subaru once again comforts the crying Emilia, and proposes the idea of completing the other trials himself. In sharp contrast with the previous timeline, this is met with disgust from Garfiel and disappointment from Emilia, who thinks he doesn’t trust her. Subaru confides in Roswaal his plan to head back to the mansion early to check in with Frederica; he volunteers Ram to join him.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part 1

Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline

Tonight’s Episode: “Declaration of War ”

Willy begins his theatrical presentation to the audience while Eren and a terrified Reiner listen in the basement below the stage with Falco. Willy tells the well-known story of Marley’s hero Helos, who formed an alliance with the Tybur family to defeat the Eldian King Fritz. However, he reveals Fritz and the Tybur family fabricated the myth themselves since Fritz longed for peace. His ideology was passed through his bloodline, which kept his successors bound to his desire, while vowing to release the Wall Titans if the peace is shattered by Marley.
