May has turned out to be a wonderful month for watching anime at JAFWA. The shows, the people, even the Door Prizes just seem so much more special. We hope to see you all this week, after Tokyo Alley 9 – Travel which will be happening a few blocks away.

Just a reminder to come early, if permitted, as the COVID countermeasures limit the number of people we can admit, generous as that limit is.
Two and a half more regular series join the program this week. And there will be another preview episode to show a sample of what other creative and weird anime Japan produces.
Bunnings Cannington Sausage Sizzle
One of JAFWA’s main fundraisers is coming up on the 5th of June, and we need your support. If you are interested in Volunteering to help JAFWA’s Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, please let the committee know ASAP. It’s a five-person shift, either from 8:00am to 12:00pm, and 12:00pm to 4:00pm or possibly later if permitted.
Annual General Meeting and Elections
Being an incorporated club, JAFWA needs to hold annual elections, which will be occurring in July.
Anyone can nominated to enter the elections, so long as they are:
- A fully registered and paid up member of JAFWA for 3 months before the election.
- Resident of WA.
If you haven’t done so before, being involved in a non-for-profit organisational committee is a great way to learn some new skills and be a part of something great. The JAFWA committee hopes to see you at the AGM to discuss the progress of your club, and looks forward to any new blood and ideas for the future of JAFWA.
Covid-19 Safety Precautions
We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiraremasen)
The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again.
Tonight’s Episode: “Apprentice Priestess ” season 2
Myne returns to Benno’s shop to tell him the news of her apprenticeship, only to find Lutz working as an assistant as part of his apprenticeship. When she meets Benno, she reveals how all of her terms, including living at home, being treated as a noble, and maintaining her paper-making studio, are considered, as well as her access to the temple’s library. On the way home, Myne hears about a strange man looking for her and is told to be cautious.
That Time I Was Re-incarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) season 2
37-year-old Satoru Mikami died at the hands of a robber, he awakens to a fresh start in a new world…as the lowest of the low – a slime monster. Now champion of monsters Rimuru Tempest ends the orc war and earns the esteemed title as Slime Chancellor. Now that the Jura Tempest Alliance is growing even further, they will now be meeting the animal kingdom of Eurazania, reuniting with King Gazel, rising tensions between monsters and humans, and Rimuru encountering the strongest enemy he’s ever faced.

Cells at Work season 2 (Hataraku Saibou)
The world is a dangerous place for a red blood cell just trying to get her deliveries finished. Fortunately, she’s not alone… she’s got a whole human body’s worth of cells ready to help out. The mysterious white blood cell, the buff and brash killer T cell, the nerdy neuron, even the cute little platelets — everyone’s got to come together if they want to keep you healthy.
This evening’s Episode: “Acquired Immunity”
Memory Cell receives visions of destruction and believes he has gained the power to see the future. The Parotid gland gets invaded by the Mumps virus. As the immune cells fight them, B Cell cannot create antibodies without Memory Cell’s information. U-1146 takes AE3083 and NT4201 on a tour of the small intestine, but Killer T Cell berates him for not focusing on his job. The small intestine gets invaded by Campylobacter bacteria who take an Intestinal Epithelial Cell hostage.

In a grandiose and dark mansion, the denizens of the Shadow House live, attended by their Living Doll partners who endlessly clean the soot their masters emit. Emilico, a young and cheerful Living Doll, is delighted to start serving her mistress Kate. As the two grow closer and are slowly exposed to various events within the House, they start to discover a number of dark secrets.
This evening’s Episode: “The Shadow and Her Doll ”
A group of children consume cups of coffee-coloured drinks before pledging their servitude to the Shadows House and their masters. A female Living Doll wakes up and readies herself to serve her Shadow mistress Kate, working to clean the soot emitted by the latter day in and day out. While Kate is quiet, reserved and poised, her Living Doll is optimistic, bubbly and clumsy.
retro – Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)
Utena Tenjou, a teenage girl who expresses her desire to be a prince through her strong-willed personality and tomboyish manner of dress. She finds herself drawn into a series of sword duels at Ohtori Academy, to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the “Rose Bride” who possesses the “power to revolutionize the world”.
Tonight’s Episode: “Thorns of Death”
Shiori, the catalyst for Juri’s broken state of mind, transfers back into Ohtori. The two of them have a tumultuous love-hate relationship, and Shiori finds out the real reason why she can make Juri suffer. Both elated and traumatized by this revelation, Shiori pays a visit to Mikage, who exploits her deep-seated insecurities.
Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”) – season 2
In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.
Tonight’s Episode: “Flames of Madness ”
Shinra meets Captain Soichiro Hague of Company 4 accompanied by Hague’s granddaughter at the 8th, Lieutenant Asako. They are met by Instructor Purt Co Pan, who takes Shinra to Hague. Hague surprisingly asks Shinra to burn him, and Shinra is prompted by a goading of young woman’s voice inside his head to uses his full power.
Urasekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic)
College student Sorawo Kamikoshi has been exploring the strange dream-like world she calls the Otherside ever since she stumbled upon it during her days as an urban explorer, but her most recent trip has gotten her into serious trouble. That’s when she meets Toriko Nishina, a strange young woman searching the Otherside for her missing friend. Toriko helps Sorawo out of her predicament, and Sorawo falls into helping Toriko in her mission. But each journey into the Otherside brings strange new dangers and skills, and Sorawo isn’t sure that the search is worth it.
Tonight’s Episode: “Wiggle-Waggle Hunting ”
College student Sorawo Kamikoshi is trapped in a bog pool in another world, afraid she’ll die alone, when another woman named Toriko Nishina stumbles across her and pulls her out. The two then encounter a monster called a “Wiggle-Waggle” that will supposedly turn them insane if they look at it for too long. Toriko throws some rock salt at the monster and it turns into a strange cube with reflective surfaces. Can they make this work for them?
Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World (Ri:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) season 2
Slacker Subaru has been mysteriously transported into a fantasy world, and involved in the politics of royal ascension, and magical terrorist expression. After learning more behind the Death Loop and Witches of Sin, Subaru vows to save Emilia and his friends from further doom.
Tonight’s Episode: “he Long-Awaited Reunion”
Subaru learns that he’s in a mental space that houses Echidna’s soul before she invites him for tea. However, after probing each other for information for a while, he eventually recalls his objective and leaves. Waking up back at the ruin, he is then attacked by the Sanctuary’s Guardian, Garfiel.
Moriarty the Patriot (Yuukoku no Moriaati)
James Moriarty is an orphan who assumes the name William James Moriarty when he and his younger brother are adopted into the Moriarty family. As a young man, he seeks to remove the ills caused by England’s strict class system.
Tonight’s Episode: “The Scarlet Eyes Act 2 ”
Several days before the fire, Albert decided to have fake William and Louis adopted, against the wishes of his mother. Albert’s father further infuriated her when he paid for Louis’ surgery in order to impress another woman. The real William attempted to bully the brothers, but was unsuccessful.
Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part 1
Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline
.
Tonight’s Episode: “Midnight Train ”
At a Marleyan military meeting, Zeke proposes to use his last year of life to attack Paradis Island and retake the Founding Titan. However, as none of Marley’s ships have returned for the past three years, it’s clear to Zeke that Paradis controls at least two of the Nine Titans. On a train back to their homes, the surviving Eldian soldiers praise Gabi for her courage, while Reiner secretly encourages Falco to become the Armored Titan in place of Gabi.
