Welcome to another wonderful week of JAFWA welcomes you to the month of October. Time is passing quickly, and we will need to know how many to book our end of year Dinner for soon.
Also, non-JAFWA directly related, tickest are selling fast for the Japanese Film Festival. Don’t miss out.

This week we are showing 3 preview episodes to overwhelm you (though one is from well before the latest anime season), as the end of the JAFWA is rapidly approaching, and there is so much anime titles in Japan that we hope to entice you with, and not enough JAFWA sessions left to do it in.

Annual General Meeting resolutions

Resolutions that occurred during the AGM on July 17^th include:

1. Experiment with earlier hours during the coldest part of Winter. We changed the bookings for August for this trial, now completed. – Resolution 19 to 2 that we should have 1 hour earlier starting next May through to August.
2. Have a celebratory Dinner for the JAFWA committee members and general members, to be held on the evening of Saturday December 18^th 2021, in lieu of a screening.
3. New mascot design – will try asking at the next Artist’s Alley.
4. Tell people they can sponsor an anime night.

We will be attempting to implement these as soon as practical.

Currently we are looking for suggestions for a location for the dinner, and we are taking expressions of interest for attendees.
We will need to make the booking by the end of October, so places and attendance by then.

JAFWA member Roy has submitted an interesting design for the logo which is under review. Any other budding artists at JAFWA who want to gives it a try?

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

Shadows House (Shadou Hausu)

In a grandiose and dark mansion, the denizens of the Shadow House live, attended by their Living Doll partners who endlessly clean the soot their masters emit. Emilico, a young and cheerful Living Doll, is delighted to start serving her mistress Kate. As the two grow closer and are slowly exposed to various events within the House, they start to discover a number of dark secrets.

Tonight’s Episode: “Watchers in the Night”

Rosemary returns, restored to normal health from the Soot sickness. Emilico is introduced to the Star Bearers, an elite group of Dolls that have all had their debut and now lead all the children Dolls. Barbie reprimands Rosemary’s squad for slacking off on cleaning duties and accuses a quiet and clumsy female Doll, Rum, for being the perpetrator, which Emilico rebukes. As Barbie threatens to physically beat her, a male Doll named Shaun stands up for her. In anger, Barbie assigns Emilico, Shaun and Ram to night watch for seven days to figure out who the culprit behind the Phantom was.

Odd Taxi

Set in a world of anthropomorphic animals, it follows the story of Odokawa, a 41-year old Walrus taxi driver shown to have no relatives and does not have much to do with others. But he usually has conversations with other animal inhabitants that ride in his taxi on their way home. With Odokawa having those conversations with several people, they may give him some leads to a high school girl who has disappeared several days ago.

This evening’s Episode: “Trick or Treat”

After being unable to find Kabasawa, Odokawa returns home to find someone shot a bullet through his window. Odokawa gets the attention of the younger Daimon brother with the shell casing and tries to get his help to arrest Dobu. The younger Daimon agrees, but still suspects Odokawa of hiding the Nerima missing girl. Meanwhile, Kakihana spends the evening hiding out from the loan shark’s henchmen.

preview item – The Vampire Dies in No Time (Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shino)

After hearing the “invincible” Draluc had kidnapped a child, famed vampire hunter, Ronaldo, accepts the job of saving him. Upon battling the vampire, he discovers Draluc isn’t as invincible as the rumors say. And after accidentally destroying his castle, Ronaldo decides to offer refuge to Draluc as a temporary business partner. Meanwhile, Draluc believes Ronaldo owes him and is merely lending the hunter his “power.”

Tonight’s Episode: “The Hunter Comes and Flies in the Sky”

After hearing the “invincible” Draluc had kidnapped a child, famed vampire hunter, Ronaldo, accepts the job of saving him. Though it turns out that the vampire Draluc isn’t as invincible as the rumors say. Nore is the child kidnapped, nor co-operative. Though the castle itself is dangerous, mainly to its owner and itself. Ronaldo decides to offer refuge to the now homeless Draluc as a temporary business partner. Vampire and Hunter, Draluc and Ronaldo are likely to become the world’s oddest couple. But effective?

I’m a Spider, So What? (Kuma desu ga, nanika)

After a Japanese classroom was destroyed by a mysterious explosion all the students reincarnated as humans on a fantasy world except for a female student who had the lowest reputation on the classroom, she was reincarnated as a spider monster. Being the weakest monster on the dungeon she need to survive using all her human intellect and courage.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Am I Getting Ahead Of Myself? ” and “What Am I Doing? ”

Following her latest evolution, Nameless discovers a are immortals. She is then contacted by D, who congratulates her for being the first to reach this species and reveals why she and the other classmates were reincarnated. In the present, Shun’s party has reached the labyrinth, where they recruit a guide named Basgath to lead them through it and Fei reveals she can now assume a human form. Though Hugo’s imperial army is guarding the entrance.
The Demon Lord, the Origin Teratect Ariel prepares to attack the Elf Village. While traversing the dungeon Shun is told by his guide about how the guide once encountered Nameless, who is now known as the “Nightmare of the Labyrinth”. They are then confronted by a swarm of “Nightmare’s vestiges”, spider-type monsters said to be the Nighmare’s offspring. In the past, Nameless rechallenges the puppet Taratect, but is in turn attacked by the Demon Lord.

retro – Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

Utena Tenjou, a teenage girl who expresses her desire to be a prince through her strong-willed personality and tomboyish manner of dress. She finds herself drawn into a series of sword duels at Ohtori Academy, to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the “Rose Bride” who possesses the “power to revolutionize the world”.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Romance of the Dancing Girls ”

Nanami is terrified of what she saw last night and broken by Touga’s betrayal. She cannot help but connect Anthy and Akio’s relationship to her own feelings for Touga. Touga presses Nanami on whether her true feelings for him are the same as Anthy’s for Akio. To prove that she is not like Anthy, Nanami challenges Utena to a duel.

preview item – To Your Eternity (Fumetsu no Anata e)

TAn omnipotent narrator casts an orb of light to the Earth, watching as this entity copies the shape of a rock and then, many years later, mimics the moss on a rock. When a wolf dies beside the moss, it evolves, taking on the creature’s shape and gaining movement for the first time. As the wolf, the orb observes the dead wolf’s owner, a young man who lives alone on a frozen tundra. The time the orb spends with the boy leaves a mark on the entity as it observes, mimics, and bonds with the boy and then the other creatures it eventually comes across—all while transcending death and living for time immemorial.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Last One”

A mysterious being casts a small white orb unto the Earth. The Orb first takes on the form of a rock that spends an unmeasured amount of time lying there. One day, an injured white wolf collapses on top of the rock. The rock takes on the form of the now-dead wolf and wanders over to an encampment where most of the residents have died except for a cheerful boy. The boy recognizes the wolf and calls out to him as Joann. The boy packs up food and supplies to travel to a “paradise” beyond the mountains where he believes the people of his tribe are waiting,

preview item – Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji ()

Itou Kaiji is a bum who steals car emblems and slashes tires on what seems to be a regular basis. This routine changes one day when he is paid a visit by a debt collector, becuase kaiji had previously co-signed for a work-mate (Furuhata Takeshi). The the loan then falls on Kaiji when Takeshi disappears. Kaiji is told of a way to clear the interest compounded debt, which involved getting on a boat with others in his position. Once on the boat the debtors would then have to gamble with loaned money, which would end with a few winning, and others getting into deeper debt and having to work to pay of their debts. After some coercing kaiji accepts a position on the boat, in order to clear himself and make a bit of money as well.

Tonight’s Episode: “Departure”

Itou Kaiji is a loser and gambler living in poverty. One day he is approached by a loan shark named Endou Yuuji, who tells Kaiji that he owes ¥3,850,000 (around $37,500) for guaranteeing a loan with a former co-worker who has disappeared. End?\ou gives Kaiji the option of trying to earn all the money to repay the debt quickly by participating in an unknown gambling event on a ship called Espoir. Kaiji reluctantly agrees.

Wonder Egg Priority

Avoiding school, Ai scores a “Wonder Egg” from a gachapon machine at a deserted arcade. But now when Ai falls asleep a girl emerges from her Wonder Egg, the worlds of dreams and reality begin to collide. And it’s all connected.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Punch Drunk Day ” and “After School at 14 ”

The girls confront a new enemy, Haters, during their prolonged stay at the Egg World, and to combat them, Acca and Ura-Acca give them Pomanders, animal companions that can help them battle. While Ai is unconscious, she recalls that earlier in the day, her mother revealed she is dating Mr. Sawaki, and Neiru suggested that Ai’s anger over this may have been because she is in love with Mr. Sawaki herself.
Rika reaches her 15th birthday, and she asks her inattentive mother to reveal the identity of her missing father as she had promised. However, as her mother had engaged with numerous men at the time, even she is unsure who her real father is.
