Early Screening on the late afternoon and evening of August 14^st 2021

This month we are experimenting with holding the JAFWA sessions an hour earlier, to counteract the cold Winter.

So remember to turn up for a 4:15 start! During the month of August only.

We have the standard program this week, with one new regular show. A rather quirky little show, that half appears to be a slice of life from an anthropomorphic version of our reality, chosen from your survey results.

Annual General Meeting resolutions

Resolutions that occurred during the AGM on July 17^th include:

1. Experiment with earlier hours during the coldest part of Winter. We are attempting to change the bookings for August for this trial.
2. Have a celebratory Dinner for the JAFWA committee members and general members, to be held on the evening of Saturday December 18^th 2021, in lieu of a screening.
3. …

We will be attempting to implement these as soon as practical.

Currently we are looking for suggestions for a location for the dinner, and we are taking expressions of interest for attendees.
We will need to make the booking by the end of October, so places and attendance by then.

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiraremasen)

The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again.

This evening’s Episode: “Knight Orders and Requests ” season 2

Though Ferdinand holds firm on requiring Myne to stay at the temple, he offers the concession that her family can come visit to check on her. Myne tells her family about her required stay at the temple over winter, only for them to react poorly. Then Myne needs to prepare for the Knights’ Order, a group from the Noble’s Quarter of Ehrenfest, by memorizing the necessary prayers and completing her ceremonial robes.

That Time I Was Re-incarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) season 2

37-year-old Satoru Mikami died at the hands of a robber, he awakens to a fresh start in a new world…as the lowest of the low – a slime monster. Now champion of monsters Rimuru Tempest ends the orc war and earns the esteemed title as Slime Chancellor. Rimuru begins the counterattack on the invading Falmuth forces, sending his subjects to dispel the barrier surrounding the city. In the occasion, they also have their rematch against the otherworlders who attacked the city.

Odd Taxi

Set in a world of anthropomorphic animals, it follows the story of Odokawa, a 41-year old Walrus taxi driver shown to have no relatives and does not have much to do with others. But he usually has conversations with other animal inhabitants that ride in his taxi on their way home. With Odokawa having those conversations with several people, they may give him some leads to a high school girl who has disappeared several days ago.

This evening’s Episode: “The Eccentric Driver”

A walrus named Odokawa wakes up from a nightmare in his taxi as he gets back to his shift, listening to the radio while searching for customers. His next fare is a hippo named Kabasawa who takes a selfie with him to go viral on social media. A pair of cops, the twin Daimon brothers, pull Odokawa over and ask if he knows the whereabouts of a criminal named Dobu.

I’m a Spider, So What? (Kuma desu ga, nanika)

After a Japanese classroom was destroyed by a mysterious explosion all the students reincarnated as humans on a fantasy world except for a female student who had the lowest reputation on the classroom, she was reincarnated as a spider monster. Being the weakest monster on the dungeon she need to survive using all her human intellect and courage.

Tonight’s Episode: “I Can’t Speak, Isekai? ”

Julius visits the Academy to tell Shun and Sue the Demons are mobilizing for war and he is being sent to the front lines. Meanwhile, it is revealed that the Nameless that dragon killed was an illusion. With help from all four of her minds, she then successfully cast to kill the dragon. However, she is then confronted by a mysterious man with administrative privileges who sensed the dragon’s death.

retro – Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

Utena Tenjou, a teenage girl who expresses her desire to be a prince through her strong-willed personality and tomboyish manner of dress. She finds herself drawn into a series of sword duels at Ohtori Academy, to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the “Rose Bride” who possesses the “power to revolutionize the world”.

Tonight’s Episode: “Their Eternal Apocalypse ”

Akio insists that Anthy and Utena move into his residence. Meanwhile, he and the recuperated Touga step up their plans of manipulating the Duelists to fight Utena. Their first target is Saionji, who has become suspicious of the nature of the duels and mistrustful of the End of the World.

Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”) – season 2

In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Core ”

Prologue: A retelling of The Great Cataclysm describes how after the world was enveloped in flames and ash, a man, later to be called Raffles I, led his followers to an “unsullied flame”, an energy source which he used to create “Amaterasu” and benefit mankind. Back inside the Tabernacle Amaterasu, Victor tests Arthur’s hypothesis that the code is based on “pi”, but the results are inconclusive.

Urasekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic)

College student Sorawo Kamikoshi has been exploring the strange dream-like world she calls the Otherside ever since she stumbled upon it during her days as an urban explorer, but her most recent trip has gotten her into serious trouble. That’s when she meets Toriko Nishina, a strange young woman searching the Otherside for her missing friend. Toriko helps Sorawo out of her predicament, and Sorawo falls into helping Toriko in her mission. But each journey into the Otherside brings strange new dangers and skills, and Sorawo isn’t sure that the search is worth it.

Tonight’s Episode: “Attack of the Ninja Cats ”

In the university cafeteria, Sorawo is approached by a freshman student named Akari Seto, who claims she is being stalked and attacked by “ninja cats”. Sorawo and Toriko have trouble believing her at first, but they decide to meet Akari in a café, and suddenly find themselves in a dimension between the real world and the Otherside where the entire town has been transformed into a cat town

Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World (Ri:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) season 2

Slacker Subaru has been mysteriously transported into a fantasy world, and involved in the politics of royal ascension, and magical terrorist expression. After learning more behind the Death Loop and Witches of Sin, Subaru vows to save Emilia and his friends from further doom.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Taste of Death”

Subaru takes the Tome of Wisdom from Beatrice only to find it blank and she reveals that she is under a contract to wait for “that person” who will euthanase her. However, their argument is interrupted by Elsa’s arrival. Subaru takes Beatrice and flees but is intercepted by the Mabeast tamer, Meili, who has already killed the others.

Moriarty the Patriot (Yuukoku no Moriaati)

James Moriarty is an orphan who assumes the name William James Moriarty when he and his younger brother are adopted into the Moriarty family. As a young man, he seeks to remove the ills caused by England’s strict class system.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Two Detectives Act 2 ”

Railway police arrest Watson despite his protest the blood came from a man he bumped into near the toilets. Holmes and William determine the victim, Trevor Redwood, is a jeweler who was inadvertently killed when he woke up in the middle of a robbery after being drugged. With Holmes following the physical evidence, William constructs a psychological profile of the killer.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part 1

Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline
