Event Afternoon before JAFWA Screening
JAFWA has the hall from about 1PM to 4:30PM, where it is make our own amusement time.
Does anybody have their own game machine and games they want their fellow JAFWAites to play? JAFWA will bring out the projector and screen. I am not certain we have access to the outdoor area, but we will try to keep you off the street.
In the past people have brought along nerf guns, video games and the hardware to play them, and sewing machines for cosplay creating. What do you want to do? Just so long as it fun, legal, ethical, and we don’t scuff the floor of the Hall.
Screening
This final weekend in August, the last one before the Bureau of Meterology says it is Spring, JAFWA warms you heart and soul as the screenings continue.
As per usual during the last screening in the month, two rather interesting things happen. Thye first is our monthly survey, as we attempt to determine what you, our dear JAFWAite audience members like seeing in our program, by means of an ordinal scaling method.
The second thing is that it will be a our monthly member’s prize draw. Each week in August that our JAFWA members have attended, gets them 1 chance in the prize draw. Have you been atending JAFWA enough?
We will even include a preview episode of some of the other anime produced in Japan, for your consideration.
JAFWA is also hoping to show the first of the 3 “Psycho Pass: Sinners of the System” movies, though we are having some technical difficulties, and may not be able to provide it this week.
As a side note, quite a few people seem to think 2020 is not a very good year. Be aware that we are approaching the new calendar season, and a few Japanese calendars have been pre-listed already, such as here and here. Do you want to be cheered up by 2021?
We continue taking precautions to limit the possible second wave of Corona, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
Help would be welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19. Set Up begins ~4:45pm, while the Screening should begin at 5:15pm, or later should the set-up not yet be complete. Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. And we need to wipe the chairs down before they are stacked away.

Fruits Basket (2019 remake)
After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. Eizoukan niwa Te o Dasu na! (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!)
Midori, Tsubame, and Sayaka are an energetic trio of first-year high school girls who come together in the Eizouken (Video Research Club) to turn their anime dreams into a reality. Midori is nervous to create an anime alone. She meets Tsubame who appears to be a well-to-do girl but she really has artistic dreams of being an animator. Midori’s best friend Sayaka has the financial sense to bring the project to fruition and joins the pair on their quest.
Tonight’s Episode: “Let’s Accomplish Something! ”
After earning 30,000 Yen from selling the accident footage, Kanamori ends up spending most of it on tools and supplies to repair the club room. Meanwhile, Mizusaki and Asakusa keep getting distracted by various fauna that wander around their club. The Eizouken advisor reminds the girls that they will soon have to give a presentation to earn more funding and status for the club.

Hina is an indoor-oriented girl who likes crafts and moves to a seaside town to continue with her high school education. She meets upperclassman Kuroiwa as she walks along an embankment and joins the mysterious “Embankment Club.” Hina dislikes sea creatures, but she fishes with her fellow club members and eats their catches. She gradually starts to appreciate the appeal of the ocean.
Tonight’s Episodes: “Breakwater Club ”
Having just moved back to Ashikita, Hina Tsurugi explores the seaside town and helps the Breakwater Club president Yuki Kuroiwa untangle a fishing line. Yuki hands Hina a line for her to try fishing herself and she catches an octopus that lands on her legs, and is coerced into joining thye club. Can she escape?
Somali and the Forest Spirit (Somari to Mori no Kamisama)
The world is ruled by spirits, goblins, and all manner of strange creatures. Human beings are persecuted, to the very point of extinction. One day, a golem and a lone human girl meet. This is a record of the pair, one a member of a ruined race, the other a watchman of the forest. It tells of their travels together and of the bond between father and daughter.
This evening’s Episode: “The Wishing Flower and the Promise Request ”
The wolf-man, named Muthrica, reveals himself to be the guardian of the underground chamber and Kikila’s teacher. When they observe Somali’s flower, it quickly begins to lose its glow and die due to not receiving enough nutrients from the mystical tsuchiami trees. After convincing Muthrica, the trio explore deeper into the grotto to find a flower to grant Somali’s wish. But will Golem be pleased?
Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”)
In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.
Tonight’s Episode: “The Blacksmith’s Dream ”
Knights of the Ashen Flame, Yona and Arrow, report Shinra’s Adolla burst to their commander, Sho Kusakabe, Shinra’s brother. Meanwhile, forensic scientist, Viktor Licht, is assigned to Company 8 and Shinra is selected to take Arthur and Iris to recruit the crackerjack engineer, Vulcan.
Isekai Quartet season 2
One day, a magic button suddenly appears. The protagonists in KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil all press the button and move to a parallel world — another brand new isekai — where a new story featuring high school life begins. Now new characters arrive
Tonight’s Episode: “Excitement! Physicals Day” and “Challenge! Part-Time Job”
It is time for the school physical examination day. Rem and Shalltear are asked to help examine the girls in the nurse’s office while Naofumi is asked to help examine the boys in the gym. Albedo and Shalltear try to sneak away and see Ainz naked, and Kazuma decides to sneak away and see the girls naked.
The students find out Viktoriya is working multiple part-time jobs after school. They confront her and she explains she is trying to earn enough money to buy the special menu in the cafeteria, which costs 30,000 yen. Intrigued, the other students take part-time jobs as well.
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)
Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.
Tonight’s Episode: “You Must Master a Single Thing ”
Zenitsu flees from a spider with a human head only to find the nest of the demon that made it, Father’s elder son, whose venom turns humans into spiders. He reveals that Zenitsu was bitten by one of his spiders during his wandering and will lose his human form in thirty minutes. Zenitsu hides in a tree as other demon-spiders approach him.
Darwin’s Game (Daawinzu Geemu)
17-year old Kaname Sudou accepts an online invitation by a friend to play an app game called Darwin’s Game, unbeknownst to him that it involves a fight between life and death. Those who play the game are given a Sigil, an ability that varies from player to player. Trapped in this game of relentless murder and conquest, Kaname determines to clear the game, and seek out and kill the Game Master.
Tonight’s Episode: “Eighth ”
At the hotel, Ichiro battles Sig, whose pyrokinesis Sigil puts him at a huge disadvantage. Having set a trap at the hotel, Ichiro runs away with Sig in pursuit to activate it. Meanwhile, Rein arrives at Shibuya Station and learns that while the Eighth also figured out that the true treasure is there, they could not find it despite searching the entire station as they have not seen the code from the diamond ring yet. But with so many Sigil users, Reain is quickly captured, and interrogated. Can the rest of her clan rescue her?
Movie – Psycho Pass: Sinners of the System part 1
In a future where the psychological profiling system Sybil determines your place in society, or your removal for the good of society, new police force recruit Akane Tsunemori finds herself facing both the challenge of catching madmen loose in the city, and of working alongside those deemed half mad already. All the while dealing with the consequences of a society that will lock you up or kill you for thinking bad thoughts…
Tonight’s Movie: “Crime and Punishment ”
The team finds a traumatised woman and it is quickly apparent that a drug has altered her state of mind, Akane Tsunemori’s team is directed to return her to a special experimental prison – the place where the woman worked as a therapist. Akane dispatches fellow inspector Shimotsuki along with two enforcers, Ginoza and Kunizuka, to investigate the prison while she and the rest of the team investigate the case in Tokyo. Through a new combination of drugs, therapy, and work, the prison has produced a different kind of society where latent criminal prisoners act in harmony with one another – keeping their criminal coefficients under 90 in most cases and carry out work valuable to society at large. But there is a darkness behind and underneath this…
