Annual General Meeting before JAFWA Screening

After announcing it since JAFWA’s return last month, it is finally upon us!

Please be advised that on the 18th of July 2020 the Japanese Animation Fans of Western Australia will be holding it’s 2020 Annual General Meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Collins Street Centre in South Perth from 3:00pm onwards. The regular screening will commence afterwards, and during the dinner break the committee election will be held.

We request that all current members attend to meet quorum requirements and to have your voices heard! Please arrive about 10 minutes early.

If you have any matters you would like to have raised at the meeting, please email them through to jafwa.anime@gmail.com. Preferably sufficiently in advance so that we can accurately prepare our response.

Screening of July 18th 2020

The JAFWA screenings continue, tough we had a last minute change with the program that continues to echo though out this month. We accientally left out “Mob Psycho 100”, meaning we are delaying the start of “Somali and the Forest Spirit” by a few weeks. Sorry.
And tonight, a couple of regular series are ending – “Non Non Biyori”, and “Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld”. Those both these series have another series we could watch. Interested?

Though first, JAFWA’s annual elections are coming up during the Dinner Break. Or at least they should be. Nobody but the current committee seems to have nominated to be elected to the JAFWA committee. Even though our Shogunic President opened the nominating process so that you can nominate any fully signed up (for at least the last 3 months) adult JAFWA member resident in WA for nomination as a committee member – it is up to the nominated to “defend” themselves.
So tremble in dread. Your current committee are back by default.

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible second wave of Corona, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
Help would be welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19. Set Up begins ~4:45pm, while the Screening should begin at 5:15pm, or later should the set-up not yet be complete. Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. And we need to wipe the chairs down before they are stacked away.

Fruits Basket (2020 season 2)

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode: “Eat Somen With Your Friends”

The school students are reminded to submit their career plans and that there will be a parent teacher meeting after the summer breaks. Hanajima, Uo, Yuki, Kyo and Tohru all decide to have lunch together on the school ground, when Uo suggests to Tohru could marry either Yuki or Kyo instead of starting a career plan. Meanwhile Kyo’s master Kazuma meets with Kyo’s father who is disgusted by Kyo since he is possessed by the Cat zodiac. Kyo’s father suggests that Kyo be put away in a pitch-black room as the cursed cat deserves.

Non Non Biyori

In the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends.

This evening’s Episode: “We’re Going to Okinawa”

Suguru wins some tickets to Okinawa in a shopping mall lottery, so the whole gang plan to go on a trip there. To prepare for the trip, the girls practice being on an airplane and go to a convenience store to buy some travel things. Meanwhile, Renge is very thoughtful about how the trip may change her view on the world.

Dr Stone

Typical student Taiju Oki tells his science-loving friend Senku Ishigami that he will confess his feelings to their classmate Yuzuriha Ogawa. He prepares to make his confession to Yuzuriha under a camphor tree on the school grounds, but his attempt is interrupted when a bright light appears in the sky. Taiju pushes Yuzuriha to the tree to protect her as the light petrifies them along with the entire human population. After 3700 years spent trapped in stone, Senku and Taiju are somehow revived from their petrified state six months apart in what they now call the Stone World.

This evening’s Episode: “Masked Warrior”

With their base ingredients obtained, Senku and the others begin producing the other elements for the antibiotic Sulfa drugs. Needing alcohol for the remaining elements, Senku ends up joining the others in the Grand Bout, which offers alcohol for the winner. However Magma is taking no chance that he might be beaten.

Mob Psycho 100 season 2

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

Tonight’s Episode: ““The Battle for Social Rehabilitation ~Friendship~ ”

Sho effortlessly takes down Hatori and finally confronts his father, Claw leader Toichiro Suzuki. The fight does not go as Sho had planned when he finds out how his father’s power works and Sho is soundly defeated. Mob frees the prime minister and meets with Serizawa, the last and most powerful of the Ultimate 5. Can Mob do some emotional bonding?

Fire Force (En’en no Sh?b?tai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”)

In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.

Tonight’s Episode: “Eve of Hostilities in Asakusa ”

The fire fighters, including Company 8, commence reconstruction of Asakusa following the destruction by Benimaru, and relations improve between the two companies. However, the White Hoods dupe Benimaru into believing that Obi and Hinawa are creating Infernals and he attacks them.

Sword Art Online: Alicization (series 3 part 2) “War of Underworld”

Kazuto has been recruited to assist in testing an experimental FullDive machine, Soul Translator (STL), which has an interface that is far more realistic and complex than the previous machine he had played to help develop an artificial intelligence for the Ministry of Defense (MOD) named A.L.I.C.E. He tests the STL by entering a virtual reality cyberspace created with The Seed package, named UnderWorld (UW). In the UW, the flow of time proceeds a thousand times faster than in the real world, and Kirito’s memories of what happens inside are restricted.

Tonight’s Episode: “Ray of Light”

20,000 American players dive into the Underworld and begin to relentlessly slaughter everyone from both armies. Asuna, Alice, Bercouli, Renly, and Sheyta work to combat the American players. Vecta spots Alice and commandeers a Dark Knight’s dragon and flies towards her. Will Dark and Light Underworlders unite against this threat?

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Boar Bares its Fangs, Zenitsu Sleeps”

Inosuke Hashibira, the boar-headed young man, launches reckless attacks against the tsuzumi demon, Kyogai, but can’t compensate for his blood art. When he steps on Teruko after the room shifts and Tanjiro throws him back, Inosuke declares a human’s never thrown him like that and attacks Tanjiro, laughing. He states he chipped his swords so they would shred flesh, instead of neatly slice it like Tanjiro’s. But there are other demons, and drummers.

Darwin’s Game (D?winzu G?mu)

17-year old Kaname Sud? accepts an online invitation by a friend to play an app game called Darwin’s Game, unbeknownst to him that it involves a fight between life and death. Those who play the game are given a Sigil, an ability that varies from player to player. Trapped in this game of relentless murder and conquest, Kaname determines to clear the game, and seek out and kill the Game Master.

Tonight’s Episode: “Ignition ”

Apart from himself, Rein and Shuka, Kaname is informed that Wang, the ruler of an infamous clan named Eighth that has claimed Shibuya as their territory, is also participating in the game. By the time he exits his hotel room, almost ten players have been killed in the hotel and floors from the 25th floor downwards have been barricaded by thick greenery.

Retro – Touhai Densetsu Akagi (Mahjong Legend Akagi)

After a death-defying game of chicken one evening in 1958, Akagi nonchalantly enters a yakuza mahjong parlor to shake the police’s trail. Although he is unfamiliar with the rules of mahjong, his gambling intuition saves a small-time gambler, Nang? (??), and grants him a seat at the gambling table. Thus begins Akagi’s legend among the Yakuaza as the best player and gambler of Mahjong.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Sinister Scheme”

Akagi and Yagi tie in the first round, and after Akagi wins the second, Yagi cheats to win the third. In the next round Akagi pays back, inducting Yagi to make a losing move by showing one of his tiles on purpose. With this victory, he pays all debts of Nang?, who does not think about anything else but going away. Akagi, however, proposes to continue the game, betting Nang?’s three million debt, knowing that the yakuza would not refuse to maintain their reputation.

Vinland Saga

set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “Sword ”

In the year 1002, the war between England and Denmark was intensifying and the English massacre a band of Vikings in Northumbria. A band of Jomsvikings, led by the intimidating Floki, visit Thorfinn’s village to enlist Thors in their war against the English. Thors was their former commander, known as the Troll of Jom. Floki conspires with Askeladd to slaughter Thors and his crew once they arrive, as punishment for deserting fifteen years earlier.
