Screening on Saturday 14^th March 2020

Welcome to the wonderful month of March, as the JAFWA screenings resume.
While the Bureau of Meteorology might say Autumn has already started, most countries (Japan included) officially state that the Seasons change on the Equinoxes/Solstices. With human induced climate change becoming ever more obvious, perhaps the Bureau of Meteorology should consider updating their dating scheme.

Hope you all enjoyed the Perth Japan Festival last Saturday!

There is a possibility that JAFWA and anime club POWA (screening Sundays in Joondalup) might join forces to host an Anime Quiz Night, perhaps on July 4^th. Anybody interested?

JAFWA is doing a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on May 2^nd, down at Cannington. We would appreciate a couple of volunteers to help out.

Fruits Basket (2019 remake)

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode: “I Can’t Believe You Picked It Up”

When Kisa begins spending more time with Tohru, a young jealous boy, Hiro Sohma, meets Tohru in person. He immediately belittles the older girl and takes Tohru’s notebook, which contains the photo of Kyoko. With the help of Kyo, Momiji, and Kisa, Hiro gives back Tohru’s notebook. As punishment, Tohru hugs the boy, which turns him into a sheep.

Non Non Biyori

In the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends.

This evening’s Episode: “We Cooked Rice at School”

Hotaru gets along with the Koshigaya family’s next door neighbour, Konomi Fujimiya, whilst Komari laments that the two seem more grown up than she is. Later, Komari joins Hotaru and Renge in doing some sketching, where she ends up becoming a model for them. Afterwards, Konomi helps Komari and Natsumi make dried persimmons.

Dr Stone

Typical student Taiju Oki tells his science-loving friend Senku Ishigami that he will confess his feelings to their classmate Yuzuriha Ogawa. He prepares to make his confession to Yuzuriha under a camphor tree on the school grounds, but his attempt is interrupted when a bright light appears in the sky. Taiju pushes Yuzuriha to the tree to protect her as the light petrifies them along with the entire human population. After 3700 years spent trapped in stone, Senku and Taiju are somehow revived from their petrified state six months apart in what they now call the Stone World.

This evening’s Episode: “Where Two Million Years Have Gone”

Kohaku takes Senku back to her village, where he meets guards Kinro and Ginro and a sorcerer named Chrome. Although Chrome’s attempts at sorcery fail to prove himself superior, Senku realises Chrome’s sorcery is actually the primitive beginning of the Stone World’s first scientific discoveries. Impressed with how far Chrome has come on his own Senku makes him his apprentice.

Mob Psycho 100 season 2

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

Tonight’s Episode: ““Cornered ~True Identity~ ”

On live TV Kirin Jodo reveals that Reigen is a fraud, and he is completely humiliated. Rumours about him being a fraudster increase and his old customers even create a group of Reigen’s “victims”.
Mob eventually hears the news but doesn’t get worried. He believes it was all his master’s plan to get even more famous. Eventually, Reigen is hunted down by reporters and detectives hired by TV and magazines, and he is forced to explain himself at a press conference.

Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”)

In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Investigation of the 1st Commences ”

Captain Leonard Burns of Company 1 gathers his Lieutenant priests Huo Yan Li, Hoshimiya Rekka and Flam Karim in Special Fire Grand Cathedral 1, suspecting that Captain Obi is making his move. Meanwhile, following the so-called joint exercise with companies 5 and 8, the company members hold a joint BBQ. Later, Captain Obi confers with Hibana who confirms that someone is creating Infernals around the Shinjuku District which comes under the jurisdiction of Company 1, and they agree to cooperate in investigating them.

Sword Art Online: Alicization (series 3 part 2) “War of Underworld”

Kazuto has been recruited to assist in testing an experimental FullDive machine, Soul Translator (STL), which has an interface that is far more realistic and complex than the previous machine he had played to help develop an artificial intelligence for the Ministry of Defense (MOD) named A.L.I.C.E. He tests the STL by entering a virtual reality cyberspace created with The Seed package, named UnderWorld (UW). In the UW, the flow of time proceeds a thousand times faster than in the real world, and Kirito’s memories of what happens inside are restricted.

Tonight’s Episode: “Stigma of the Disqualified”

With the war continuing on, Alice continues to build the laser bomb using the spatial resources given off by the corpses. Meanwhile, Renly is hiding in a supply tent, only to be found by Ronie and Tiese. Shortly after, the discover the Mountain Goblins have broken through the lines and are attacking the supply lines.

Academy City is a highly developed place in terms of technology. It is said to be 20 to 30 years ahead of the rest of the world. Eighty percent of its 2.3 million residents are students. The focus of studies here is directed towards esper powers. Misaka Mikoto, one of the top level espers in town, shares a room with Kuroko Shirai, another high level esper who is a member of Judgement, a law enforcing agency composed of students. Both attend to Tokiwadai, a private school reserved for the high-leveled and the rich. Kuroko’s partner at Judgement, Kazari Uiharu, is a low level esper who studies at Sakugawa middle school. Her best friend and classmate there is Ruiko Saten, a level zero (no esper powers). Together the four encounter several adventures in the exciting scientific town.

Tonight’s Episode: “Super-powered (Level 5) ”

In the run-up to the Daihasei Sports Festival, Mikoto, along with other Level 5 espers, is approached with the offer of giving the athlete’s pledge during the festival’s opening ceremony. Meanwhile, when a fight breaks out between cheer squads over the use of the main stage, Kazari steps in to try and stop them. This attracts the attention of the seventh-ranked Level 5 esper, Gunha Sogiita, who ends up causing more harm than good with his Attack Crush ability.

Cop Craft

15 years ago, an unknown hyperspace gate opened over the Pacific. Beyond this gate lies Reto Semaani, a strange alternate world where fairies and demons live. San Teresa City — a city where over two million immigrants live from both worlds. As a result, there are the haves and the have-nots. Here is the world’s newest “city of dreams.” But in the shadow of the chaos, crime is rampant: drugs, prostitution, and weapon trafficking. Tonight’s Episode: “Smells Like Toon Spirits”

Tilarna takes down an escaping plane with her sword, as it collapses into pieces in a nearby swamp shortly after takeoff. The police are unable to find the pilot, but discover a crate full of several objects. Kei tasks Tilarna to catalogue the items from the crate before sending it for Customs inspection, but the cat Kuroi trips over a tiny crossbow, firing a bolt that pierces Tilarna’s arm. Will embarrassments never cease?

Psycho-Pass season 3

In a future Japan where the psychological profiling system Sybil determines your place in society, or your removal for the good of society, now veteran Inspector Akane Tsunemori has been arrested by Public Security, for putting the public in danger. The unfolding story and the truth Tsunemori seeks involves two new investigators: Arato Shindo and Kei Mikhail Ignatov.

Tonight’s Episode: “Don’t Take God’s Name in Vain”

Torri Aschenbach has kidanpped the hospitalised Stronskaya and threatens to harm her in an attempt to extract information from Ignatov about infiltrators to Heaven’s Leap. Shindo determines that O’Brien is being used by Aschenbach, and they need to apprehend both O’Brien and Shinogi to rescue the undercover team. And Biforst continues to manipulate behind the scenes.
