Screening on Saturday 25^th January 2020

Was everybody pleased with the surprise survey we threw last week, to see what genres of anime our dear JAFWAites enjoyed and wanted to see more of?
This week should be our normal monthly survey.

A reminder that JAFWA is planning to have a Special General Meeting of its signed up members during the Dinner Break of Saturday 22^nd February. As attendees may recall, the air conditioning was not sufficient at the Marathon screening in December, and we wish to consult with our members about what we do this year.

JAFWA is doing a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on May 2^nd, down at Cannington. We would appreciate a couple of volunteers to help out.

Fruits Basket (2019 remake)

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode: “I Wouldn’t Say That”

Shigure brings Tohru, Yuki, Kyo and Hatori to the Sohmas’ lakeside house for a short vacation. Though Hatori deduces that Shigure wants to tease his editor, it is revealed that Shigure wants Hatori to move on from Kana, whose wedding to another man happened very recently. Meanwhile Yuki and Kyo remain silent since visiting Kyoko’s grave, causing Tohru to worry.

Non Non Biyori

In the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends.

This evening’s Episode: “I Ran Away From Home With My Sister”

The class goes on a school field trip to help out in a rice field, where Natsumi and Komari end up getting stuck in the mud. Later that night, Komari gets frightened after seeing a scary movie, which is not helped by Natsumi. After getting into a fight with her mother, Natsumi runs away from home with Komari in tow and goes to her secret hideout.

Dr Stone

Typical student Taiju Oki tells his science-loving friend Senku Ishigami that he will confess his feelings to their classmate Yuzuriha Ogawa. He prepares to make his confession to Yuzuriha under a camphor tree on the school grounds, but his attempt is interrupted when a bright light appears in the sky. Taiju pushes Yuzuriha to the tree to protect her as the light petrifies them along with the entire human population. After 3700 years spent trapped in stone, Senku and Taiju are somehow revived from their petrified state six months apart in what they now call the Stone World.

This evening’s Episode: “Weapons of Science”

Aware of Tsukasa’s murderous intent, Senku sends him away to the source of the revival fluid while he and Taiju make a batch of revival fluid to finally revive Yuzuriha. Needing weapons of science to stop Tsukasa’s murder spree, Senku and the others begin travelling towards Hakone.

Mob Psycho 100 season 2

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

Tonight’s Episode: “One Danger After Another ~Degeneration~ ”

Reigen’s web-site proves to be successful, but he attracts a bad job, when a man asks Reigen to curse someone. Initially refusing, Reigen eventually placates the man, by giving him a false charm and saying that something bad will eventually happen. Mob is slightly disturbed. In fact as more and more jobs come in, Mob will get thoroughly confused by the actions of so many clients

Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”)

In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Rookie Fire Soldier Games ”

At the Rookie Fire Soldier games, Shinra recognizes Captain Leonard Burns, who denies recalling the fire which destroyed Shinra’s home and family twelve years ago. The games involve entering a booby-trapped building and reaching a crewman posing as an Infernal. Shinra uses his ability to fly to the top, where he encounters a mysterious man who promises to reveal information about the fire twelve years ago, and the supposed death of Shinra’s younger brother.

Sword Art Online: Alicization (series 3 part 2) “War of Underworld”

Kazuto has been recruited to assist in testing an experimental FullDive machine, Soul Translator (STL), which has an interface that is far more realistic and complex than the previous machine he had played to help develop an artificial intelligence for the Ministry of Defense (MOD) named A.L.I.C.E. He tests the STL by entering a virtual reality cyberspace created with The Seed package, named UnderWorld (UW). In the UW, the flow of time proceeds a thousand times faster than in the real world, and Kirito’s memories of what happens inside are restricted.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Final Load Test”

With GlowGen Defense Systems now in control of the main control room, they find that the computer system is locked down tight and that forcing their way into the sub control room or the lightcube cluster is not a viable option. Commander Gabriel Miller discovers the existence of the final load test getting ready to commence, which will eliminate the border between the Human and Dark territories to test the humans. In order to accomplish his mission of locating Alice, he decides to log in as the Dark Emperor Vecta, with his lieutenant, Vassago, logging in as a dark knight. Meanwhile, Asuna decides to log in to the Underworld in an attempt to save Kirito and escort Alice out of the Underworld.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “Sabito and Makomo”

Over the next 6 months, Tanjiro trains with Urokodaki, improving his physical form and learning how to use a special breathing technique Total Concentration, to accelerate his stamina and speed. One day, Urokodaki declares that if Tanjiro can slice a boulder with his sword he will let him enter Final Selection — a survival test administered by the Demon Slayer Corps that will determine who can become a demon hunter.

Cop Craft

15 years ago, an unknown hyperspace gate opened over the Pacific. Beyond this gate lies Reto Semaani, a strange alternate world where fairies and demons live. San Teresa City — a city where over two million immigrants live from both worlds. As a result, there are the haves and the have-nots. Here is the world’s newest “city of dreams.” But in the shadow of the chaos, crime is rampant: drugs, prostitution, and weapon trafficking. The detectives who stand up to these heinous crimes are in the San Teresa City Police. When the detective Kei Matoba and the alternate-world knight Tirana — two individuals who differ in gender, personality, and even world of origin — meet, an incident erupts.

Tonight’s Episode: “Midnight Train”

Kei discovers that Tilarna left her sword behind to symbolize her willingness to break the rules and track down Dennis Elbaji. Tilarna infiltrates Dennis’s nightclub with Biz’s help, then meets Dennis himself, intending to take back the kidnapped fairy. However, Dennis beats her after a quick swordfight and kidnaps her instead, taking her to an abandoned temple in the outskirts of San-Teresa.

Psycho-Pass season 3

In a future Japan where the psychological profiling system Sybil determines your place in society, or your removal for the good of society, now veteran Inspector Akane Tsunemori has been arrested by Public Security, for putting the public in danger. The unfolding story and the truth Tsunemori seeks involves two new investigators: Arato Shindo and Kei Mikhail Ignatov.

Tonight’s Episode: “Herakles and the Sirens”

Bifrost begins their next Roundrobin manipulation of events, which involves the outcome of the Toyko gubernatorial race. Ignatov interviews Yakushiji, who is currently trailing in the race and is uncooperative. Bifrost agent Koichi Azusawa is activated. Shindo uses his Mental Trace on Komiya and determines that Komiya is hiding something before he collapses from severe side effects. Shimotsuki allows the team to continue the investigation under the pretext of anti-terrorism.
