Below is the program for the evening of Saturday November 23^rd, 2019.

This is the second last week of regular program for 2019, as we try to finish as many series as possible in 2019, in order to have a fresh program for 2020. Enough series have already finished that we have room for a couple of preview episodes this week. Though technically one of them is a retro show, coming from 2005.

On December 14^th we will have our end of year marathon screening, before we take a break until January, starting from 1PM. Be aware that we intend to run an auction (some items listed here) on behalf of our members. Tell us what you want us to auction of yours, preferably well in advance, so we can schedule enough time into the program, as well as inform people so that they can bring plenty of money to bid. Already, a couple of expensive “Attack on Titan” figures have been proffered.

Fruits Basket (2019 remake)

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episodes: “It’s Valentine’s, After All” and “This Is a Wonderful Inn”

Kyo the Cat wakes up from a nightmare he had and goes to school without eating breakfast. Learning that day is the day before Valentine’s Day, Kyo unsuccessfully attempts to flee from school. After school, Tohru and Kyo meet Kagura the Boar again, the girl being the main reason for Kyo’s worry of Valentine’s. Can a date be in the air? Even a double-date? This is the day it is tradiotnal for girls to give chocolate to boys they like or respect.
A month later, after the end-of-term tests, Momiji the Rabbit invites Tohru, Yuki the Rat and a reluctant Kyo to a hot springs inn owned by the Sohma family for White Day. Shigure the Dog notices the perilous state of Tohru’s finances.

Kanata no Astra (Astra: Lost in Space)

In the year 2063, travelling through space has become commonplace. Eight students from Caird High School, along with one child, set out for a school camp on a nearby planet. However, the students are then mysteriously transported 5,000 light years away from home, with no way to call for help. Aboard an abandoned spaceship they call the Astra, these nine students slowly try to make their way back and figure out why they were transported in the first place.

Charce has been revealed as the traitor who transported them 5000 light-years, to what should have been their doom. But why did he do this, and why is he so reluctant to complete his mission? And who is Aries a clone of?

Mob Psycho 100

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Heinous Aura ~Mastermind~ ”

Mob, who has overcome his relusctance to use his psychic powers, allong with his allies Teru and the spirit Dimple (who is possessing a security flunky) have invaded the regional headquarters of the Claw organisation, composed of militant psychics bent on world domination. Do they stand a chance? Can Mob’s brother Ritsu successfully escape, or be rescued by his older brother?

Preview item – Mayonaka no Occult Gakuin

Arata Miyako is a new government worker assigned to the Shinjuku Ward Office’s “Nighttime Regional Relations” department. Each of Tokyo’s 23 wards has one such department, which were established to solve paranormal and occult-related events. Arata can understand non-human speech that no one else understands, and he encounters a youkai (supernatural entity) at Shinjuku Gyoen park that calls him Abe no Seimei — the name of a historical Japanese occultist and diviner.

Tonight’s Episode: “Angels and Tengu Above the Shinjuku Skyline”

Arata Miyako is a new government employee in Shinjuku Ward, ready for his first day of work. Except, it’s not day, it’s night. And the room he is directed to is labelled “Storage”. Arata is about to meet the other oddballs of the Nocturnal Community Relations Division and discover its purpose; to police the supernatural denizens of Japan. And despite his misgivings, he really is a valuable new member of the department. Because he can do something no one else can…

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari)

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a parallel world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers. As he little by little gain the trust and gratitude of the people with their heroic actions, Naofumi and his companions work hard to fulfill their mission as saviors of the world, while unraveling its deepest secrets.

This evening’s Episode: “Guardians of Another World”

Learning of the coming Wave of Chaos due to hit the Cal Mira Archipeligo, Naofumi warns Queen Mirellia and she amasses a large naval fleet; L’Arc and Therese also sail to the waves with the Fleet. While the navy fights the smaller creatures, the Four Heroes fight the Boss monster, but they are unable to do much damage to it and it is L’Arc and Therese that ultimately kill it. Then it gets dangerous.

preview item – Touhai Densetsu Akagi (Mahjong Legend Akagi)

After a death-defying game of chicken one evening in 1958, Akagi nonchalantly enters a yakuza mahjong parlor to shake the police’s trail. Although he is unfamiliar with the rules of mahjong, his gambling intuition saves a small-time gambler, Nangou, and grants him a seat at the gambling table. Thus begins Akagi’s legend among the Yakuaza as the best player and gambler of Mahjong.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Genius Who Descended Into The Darkness ”

13 years after the end of WWII, Japan is rebuilding from the ashes. One stormy night, a businessman with debts tries to reduce them wih illegal gambling, and losing. Then a kid named Akagi wanders in, changing all the luck, though as of yet he knows not how to play. But he knows how to play.

Dororo

From Osamu Tezuka’s beloved manga. During the 1470s after the Wars of Onin and Bunmei in the Noto Peninsula of the Hokuriku District, Hyakkimaru, who lacks as much as 48 body parts, obtains a fake body and eliminates 48 monsters that were made from his body to retrieve his missing body parts, and regain his humanity.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Story of Nui”

Tahoumaru’s group return home with Dororo while Kagemitsu prepares to repel an impending attack by the Asakura Clan, planning to fight at Banmon. Hyakkimaru is enraged Dororo has been kidnapped, his rage drawing the demon horse to him. Tahoumaru visits Hyogo’s sister Mutsu, who lost her right arm and is also weak from a disease she was hiding, but she refuses to see him as she won’t risk infection. Meanwhile Nuinokata frees Dororo in gratitude for providing companionship for son Hyakkimaru and leaves with him.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Ougen no Kaze (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Golden Wind)

Set in 2001, two years after the events of Diamond is Unbreakable, Koichi Hirose is sent to Italy and tasked by Jotaro Kujo to search for Giorno Giovanna, an aspiring mafia gangster who is a son of Dio Brando. But as Dio possessed the body of Jonathan Joestar at time of his conception, Giorno is technically a Joestar and takes more after them than the father he never knew. The series follows Giorno as he joins the mafia organization Passione, moving up through its ranks with the intention of becoming its boss to improve life in Italy.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Diavolo Surfaces ” and “King of Kings ”

Doppio dies in Bucciarati’s bullet-riddled body feeling lonely and abandoned. Meanwhile, Chariot Requiem races towards Polnareff, but when Mista tries to shoot it, his gun suddenly breaks apart. Chariot Requiem retrieves the arrow and walks off; however, its additional ability takes effect, mutating the bodies of organisms nearby. Inspecting Mista’s broken gun and determining that Diavolo destroyed it during erased time, Giorno deduces that Diavolo must be hiding within the body of someone in the group.
Diavolo attempts to grab the arrow with King Crimson, but Bucciarati destroys Chariot Requiem, returning everybody’s souls to their respective bodies. However, with his body already dead, Bucciarati’s soul begins to ascend to the heavens. Before departing, he thanks Giorno for making him feel alive again when they met and leaves the arrow in Giorno’s hands.
