Screening on Saturday 26^th October 2019

On December 14^th we will have our end of year marathon screening, before we take a break until January, and your Suggestions are welcome as the program has not yet been finalised. The JAFWA committee has already scheduled room for “Akira”, and we have received a request for the movie “Millenium Actress”, as well as the “Girls und Panzer” movie, and something “Gundam”. Any other requests/suggestions?
Be aware, we also intend to run an auction on behalf of our members. Tell us what you want us to auction of yours, preferably well in advance, so we can schedule enough time into the program, as well as inform people so that they can bring plenty of money to bid. Already, a couple of expensive “Attack on Titan” figures have been proffered.

A reminder that JAFWA member Dale is offering to do a bulk import order of Japanese calendars, in order to reduce shipping costs. The 2020 calendars have passed their pre-order discount period, and Dale can get titles as seen here or here, possibly with more to come as the publishing companies confirm their schedules. Is anyone else interested in ordering Japanese calendars via Dale?

Fruits Basket (2019 remake)

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode: “Spring Comes”

Tohru is summoned to the Sohma family estate where she is greeted by Hatori and Momiji. Hatori advises Tohru to stop associating with the Sohma family lest she becomes burdened by the family curse. Though Tohru’s clumsiness may allow her to find out which Zodiac animal Hatori is cursed by. How can Hatori forgive her?

Isekai Quartet

One day, a magic button suddenly appears. The protagonists in KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil all press the button and move to a parallel world — another brand new isekai — where a new story featuring high school life begins.

This evening’s Episodes: “Enjoy! Field Trip” and “Join In! Rivals”

The class arrives at the beach for their field trip. Kazuma spies on the girls from the bushes while the male 203rd Aerial Mage Battalion members gush over Darkness’ chest during push ups. Later at night, the test of courage begins. Subaru, Tanya, Ainz and Aqua walk as a tagged group through the event’s passage until Aqua stops them and asks the group a rather dangerous question.
The survivors of the Beach excursion get to hear Roswaal-sensei announce that a field day is coming and the winners will be allowed to return to their worlds. Much to the surprise of Class 2, it is revealed that there is a Class 1 room down the hallway with additional characters from other individual worlds.

Kanata no Astra (Astra: Lost in Space)

In the year 2063, travelling through space has become commonplace. Eight students from Caird High School, along with one child, set out for a school camp on a nearby planet. However, the students are then mysteriously transported 5,000 light years away from home, with no way to call for help. Aboard an abandoned spaceship they call the Astra, these nine students slowly try to make their way back and figure out why they were transported in the first place.

This evening’s Episode: “Past ”

Charce reveals that like Aries, he is also a transfer student who arrived after Aries. He admits that he didn’t reveal this earlier since he didn’t want to talk about his past, since he is from the Vixia Royal Quarter, the only nation on their home planet that is still ruled by nobility. Then there is their 4th destination, the tidally locked Icriss, where our protagonists’ luck may finally be lost.

Mob Psycho 100

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

Tonight’s Episode: “Exaltation -I’ve Obtained Loss- ”

Mob’s younger brother Ritsu meets the spirit known as Dimple, and gradually learns about and improves his psychic powers. Meanwhile, Mob encounters two con-artists trying to swindle him for money for a “expensive” vase he damaged. With his growing psychic powers and Dimple’s guidance, Ritsu develops a dangerous superiority complex.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari)

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a parallel world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers. As he little by little gain the trust and gratitude of the people with their heroic actions, Naofumi and his companions work hard to fulfill their mission as saviors of the world, while unraveling its deepest secrets.

Tonight’s Episode: “Naofumi’s Triumphant Return ”

After three days recovering, Queen Mirellia apologizes to Naofumi for all the troubles the Three Heroes Church, Princess Myne and King Aultcray had caused him. Original plan was to have a hero summoned by different nations to fight the Waves around the world, rather than all in Melromarc. Noafumi is now in a position to decide the fate of Myne and Aultcray.

Yakusoku no Neverland (The Promised Neverland)

Emma is an 11-year-old orphan living in Grace Field House, a small orphanage housing her and her 37 siblings. Life had never been better; with food that tasted gourmet, plush beds, snow-white uniforms, and the love of their “Mother” (the caretaker) Isabella, as well the litany of daily exams that Emma always aced with her two best friends Ray and Norman. The orphans are basically allowed to do whatever they want, except to venture out of the compounds or the gate that connects the house to the outside world. Then she finds out the truth. Determined to break out of Grace Field House, Norman and Emma partner up with Ray to peel away at the façade of the farm and find a way to escape with all their other siblings.

Tonight’s Episode: “150146 ” (finale)

The children reach and climb the boundary wall. In a flashback, Phil tells Emma that he suspected the purpose of the farm all along, and accepted that the under four-year-olds would stay, hoping to be freed before being harvested. Meanwhile, Isabella notifies headquarters of the fire and that 15 children have escaped.

Dororo

From Osamu Tezuka’s beloved manga. During the 1470s after the Wars of Onin and Bunmei in the Noto Peninsula of the Hokuriku District, Hyakkimaru, who lacks as much as 48 body parts, obtains a fake body and eliminates 48 monsters that were made from his body to retrieve his missing body parts, and regain his humanity.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Story of Questions and Answers ” and “The Story of the Cape of No Mercy”

Jukai is adding limbs to the dead on a battlefield when a ghoul attacks, but Hyakkimaru appears and kills it. Jukai realizes that although Hyakkimaru’s body has become more human, he is less human on the inside. Though he reveals he is not alone as he remembers Dororo.
Shiranui calls on the giant shark Jiromaru to eat Saburomaru’s body and it evolves into a demon capable of moving onto land. Where it attacks Dororo. Kagemitsu sends Tahoumaru and a small army to kill Hyakkimaru. Will anynody survive Cape Hakkotsu, and discover the hidden treasure?

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 3 part 2

Eren and his companions in the 104th are assigned to the newly-formed Levi Squad, whose assignment is to keep Eren and Historia safe given Eren’s newly-discovered power and Historia’s knowledge and pedigree. Levi and Erwin have good reason to be concerned, because the priest of the Church that Hange had hidden away was found tortured to death, making it clear that the Military Police are involved with the cover-up. Things get more harrowing when the MPs make a move on Erwin and the Levi Squad narrowly avoids capture.

Tonight’s Episode: “That Day ”

In the aftermath of the Battle of Shiganshina, Eren has a dream of experiencing the life of his father Grisha starting when he took his younger sister Fay outside the Liberio Internment Zone for Eldians to watch the zeppelins, they are caught by two Public Safety soldiers. Will the secrets of the Titan’s fianlly be revealed from the books Grisha left hidden in the basement?

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Ougen no Kaze (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Golden Wind)

Set in 2001, two years after the events of Diamond is Unbreakable, Koichi Hirose is sent to Italy and tasked by Jotaro Kujo to search for Giorno Giovanna, an aspiring mafia gangster who is a son of Dio Brando. But as Dio possessed the body of Jonathan Joestar at time of his conception, Giorno is technically a Joestar and takes more after them than the father he never knew. The series follows Giorno as he joins the mafia organization Passione, moving up through its ranks with the intention of becoming its boss to improve life in Italy.

Tonight’s Episode: “His Name Is Diavolo ”

Rather than kill the rapidly deteriorating Bucciarati, the boss Diavolo has Doppio use him to find out who he is planning to meet at the Colosseum. Though he still has to avoid Bucciarati’s team, fool Bucciarati, and have King Crimson defeat Silver Chariot and obtain the arrow in the possession of Jean Pierre Polnareff.
