Below is the program for the evening of Saturday August 24^th, 2019.

This week is our first preview episode for August, the double-length first episode of “Kanata no Astra” (in Englisg it is known as “Astra: Lost in Space”). To fit this double-length episode, we have had to delay the next episode of “Dororo”, and show “The Promised Neverland” in its timeslot.

With the eagerly-awaited new theatrical movie “Weathering with You” by Makoto Shinkai out in cinemas from Thursday August 22^nd, JAFWA might be able to score some free passes for members. For a chance to acquire this, please like and comment upon our FaceBook event before Saturday.

A quick alert – Madman has their Winter Stocktake sale on this week. Some older titles discounted, often by quite a lot. Order through JAFWA on Saturday to avoid postage costs.

A reminder that JAFWA member Dale is considering doing a bulk import order of Japanese calendars, to reduce shipping costs. The very first 2020 calendars are starting to be listed, as seen here or here. Is anyone interested in ordering Japanese calendars via Dale?

Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue (My Housemate Is on My Lap, But Sometimes, on My Head)

Subaru, a 23-year-old introverted mystery writer, who adopts the cat Haru by chance. While he initially remains distant, they gradually bond with each other. Haru and Subaru rarely understand each other, but their misunderstandings lead to a common goal.

This evening’s Episode: “Feelings Crossing ”

Out of ideas for his next novel, Subaru sees some flowers in his garden that he does not remember were there and waters them. He finds an empty flower bed that was intended to be for flowers from Tokushima, a place his parents were planning to visit before the tour bus accident claimed their lives.

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime)

Living alone and never having had a girlfriend, 37-year-old Satoru Mikami is dissatisfied with how his life has turned out. But after dying at the hands of a robber, he awakens to a fresh start in a new world…as the lowest of the low – a slime monster.

This evening’s Episode: “Saved Souls ”

A plethora of inferior spirits answer the prayers of Gale, Alice, and Ryota so Rimuru devours them and turns them into three new superior spirits, which successfully inhabit the three. Kenya summons and is inhabited by a superior spirit of light. Then an unknown spirit-like being appears, and Veldora within Rimiru reacts to its presence.

One Punch Man season 2

An increase in villain activity has the Hero Organization worried that the “Earthdoom prophecy” will soon come to pass. In an effort to alleviate the overworked heroes, they turn to villains themselves for help. The decision looks ill-advised as at least one villain is more interested in helping the prophecy along than preventing it. Meanwhile, the invincible Saitama is still bored, trying to find a decent challenge.

This evening’s Episode: “The Varieties of Pride ”

Pausing in the batlle against the injured Garou, Death Gatling explains their reasoning to take down Garou: to earn respect from the Hero Association, who only cares about S Class and ignores the rest of the hardworking heroes, despite the amount of effort the lower heroes put in their work.

In the year 2063, travelling through space has become commonplace. Eight students from Caird High School, along with one child, set out for a school camp on a nearby planet. However, the students are then mysteriously transported 5,000 light years away from home, with no way to call for help. Aboard an abandoned spaceship they call the Astra, these nine students slowly try to make their way back and figure out why they were transported in the first place.

Tonight’s Episode: “Planet Camp ”

On her way to the planetary camp, Aries Spring has her bag snatched at the spaceport, but fellow student Kanata Hoshijima stops him. Nine students from Caird High School arrive at the planet McPa for their planetary camp. Not long after setting foot, a mysterious sphere appears out of nowhere and swallows up the students. They end up adrift in space where they find an abandoned spaceshi

Mob Psycho 100

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

Tonight’s Episode: “Doubts about Youth -The Telepathy Club Appears- ”

The “Telepathy Club” at Mob’s school is in danger of disbanding after it drops below the minimum number of members. The group desperately tries to convince other students in the school to join their club, and drags Mob into the clubroom in an attempt to convince Mob to join. The Telepathy Club’s leader Kurata argues with Reigen over the phone as Reigen wants Mob to focus on his job instead of the club.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari)

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a parallel world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers. As he little by little gain the trust and gratitude of the people with their heroic actions, Naofumi and his companions work hard to fulfill their mission as saviors of the world, while unraveling its deepest secrets.

Tonight’s Episode: “Everlasting Memory ”

Myne’s knights start a forest fire to force out Naofumi’s party, blaming them for it too. The next morning, the border to Siltvelt is closed by Royal decree, leaving Naofumi no choice but to head the other to meet Queen Mirelia. There are some nobles still prepared to aid Myne, but Melty’s campaign against her is viscious.

Yakusoku no Neverland (The Promised Neverland)

Emma is an 11-year-old orphan living in Grace Field House, a small orphanage housing her and her 37 siblings. Life had never been better; with food that tasted gourmet, plush beds, snow-white uniforms, and the love of their “Mother” (the caretaker) Isabella, as well the litany of daily exams that Emma always aced with her two best friends Ray and Norman. The orphans are basically allowed to do whatever they want, except to venture out of the compounds or the gate that connects the house to the outside world. Then she finds out the truth. Determined to break out of Grace Field House, Norman and Emma partner up with Ray to peel away at the façade of the farm and find a way to escape with all their other siblings.

Tonight’s Episode: “011145 ”

Sister Krone, after ambushing the children, proposes to the conspirators that they work together so their escape will cause Isabella’s demise so Krone can become the Mom. She reveals she was once an orphan like them, but she can never leave her allotted area because of a deadly monitoring chip implanted in her chest. They agree to join her, but cannot trust her.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 3

Eren and his companions in the 104th are assigned to the newly-formed Levi Squad, whose assignment is to keep Eren and Historia safe given Eren’s newly-discovered power and Historia’s knowledge and pedigree. Levi and Erwin have good reason to be concerned, because the priest of the Church that Hange had hidden away was found tortured to death, making it clear that the Military Police are involved with the cover-up. Things get more harrowing when the MPs make a move on Erwin and the Levi Squad narrowly avoids capture.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Town Where Everything Began ”

The Survey Corps treks through the forest under the darkness of a new moon, planning to retake the Shiganshina District in order to reach Eren’s basement. The group arrives at the seemingly empty Shiganshina District and Eren easily blocks the hole in the outer wall with his titan hardening ability. Before Eren plugs the hole in the inner wall, Armin discovers a recently abandoned campsite.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Ougen no Kaze (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Golden Wind)

Set in 2001, two years after the events of Diamond is Unbreakable, Koichi Hirose is sent to Italy and tasked by Jotaro Kujo to search for Giorno Giovanna, an aspiring mafia gangster who is a son of Dio Brando. But as Dio possessed the body of Jonathan Joestar at time of his conception, Giorno is technically a Joestar and takes more after them than the father he never knew. The series follows Giorno as he joins the mafia organization Passione, moving up through its ranks with the intention of becoming its boss to improve life in Italy.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Little Story From The Past ~My Name Is Doppio~ ”

In the summer of 1965, a Sardinian woman in an Italian prison gave birth to a pink-haired baby boy, during which time a woman noticed that the boy’s eye momentarily changed color. The baby was then taken in by the church, growing into a teenager under the care of a friendly priest. In the present on Sardinia, the boy, still a teenager years later, encounters a mysterious fortune-teller. The man offers to tell the teenager’s fortune; he determines that the boy is looking for his fifteen-year-old daughter, but is confused due to the boy’s own apparent age.
