Screening on Saturday 9^th June 2018

Below is the program for the evening of Saturday June 9^th, 2018.

This is notification that we are now taking nominations for the upcoming JAFWA committee elections, to be held during the Dinner Break of July 21, after the AGM. Nominations are open to all members paid up for at least the last 3 months, and permamnent residents of WA.

Last time at JAFWA we said that JAFWA would start screening 4 new regular series this week. However, we are going to delay the start of one of the new series by a week, as an OAV from KonoSuba has wormed its way into the program.

It is an unfotunate fact, but in Winter we are not able to properly keep the Hall warm. A reminder to bring along warm clothing.

Don’t forget that the anime film Maquia – when the promised flower blooms will be in cinemas from Thursday.
Even TV celebrates anime. NITV channel 34 is screening “Spirited Away” at 7:30PM on Friday 8th June.

CardCaptor Sakura: Clear Card

The long=awaited sequel. Sakura and Syaoran are starting junior high school. With the Final Judgment passed, Sakura thinks school life will be quiet, but then all her cards suddenly turn blank. The mysterious new power she discovers will change how she thinks about her powers.

This evening’s Episode: “Sakura and the Clear Cards”

It’s the first day for Sakura and her friends at Tomoeda Junior High School. On her way back home, she is surprised by Syaoran, who reveals that he had just moved to Tomoeda permanently, much to her surprise and joy. Later that night, Sakura has a dream where she is surrounded by blank, transparent cards and a mysterious cloaked figure appears before her. Once she wakes up, Sakura discovers that all the Sakura cards have turned blank like what she saw in the dream.

Sakura Quest

Yoshino Koharu is a young girl trying to look for a job in Tokyo, but is only met with a series of rejections. However, she has a seemingly lucky break when she receives a job offer to work with the tourism board of the economically struggling Manoyama village as their “Queen”. With no other choice, Yoshino accepts the offer and travels to Manoyama only to find out that she was hired based on a case of mistaken identity and that her contract term is for one year instead of the one day, as she had initially thought. With nowhere else to go, Yoshino reluctantly becomes Queen of Manoyama.

This evening’s Episode: “The Harlequin on the Pond”

The cryptid twelve tourists from Spain have found someone drowing in the draining pond. Yoshino, Maki, and Sanae find a fever-stricken Kadota after he crashes his car trying to pull something out of the Sakura Pond. Ririko then shows them a picture she saw her grandmother looking at, depicting Kadota, Doku, and Mrs. Oribe as part of a rock band in their youth.

Fune wo Amu (aka The Great Passage)

Araki is a veteran editor for the dictionary department at the Genbu Shobou publishing company. He is looking for a successor now that he’s approaching retirement age. After Majime Mitsuya — a salesman who’s a poor talker — meets Masashi Nishioka — Araki’s coworker who is sociable and frivolous — Araki overhears their conversation and decides to recruit Majime into the department. The “odd couple” work together to compile a medium-sized Japanese dictionary titled “The Great Passage”.

This evening’s Episode: “Pride”

Disaster has struck, as during the 4th revision it is discovered there is a word missing from the dictionary draft. And if one is missing, can they be certain that none of the other 240,000 words are missing? The work will be punishing to prevent the Great Passage from foundering.

Retro – Choujikuu Yousai Makurosu (Super Dimension Fortress Macross)

In 1999 a city-sized alien spacecraft crashes in South Ataria Island on Earth. Over the course of 10 years the military organization U.N. Spacy reverse-engineers its technology and rebuilds the spacecraft, naming it the SDF-1 Macross. In 2009 at the launch ceremony of the Macross, a space war fleet from the alien Zentraedi arrives in the solar system and identifies the Macross as a former battleship used by their enemies. Mistakes happen. Thus begins the war between Human and Zentraedi, led by the brave crew of the Macross.

Tonight’s Episode: “Messenger”

In a surprising turn of events, Exsedol Folmo is micronized and attempts to seek peace negotiations with the people of the Macross, as the Zentraedi deal with a new cultural awakening caused by Minmay’s songs. Captain Misa, still on Earth, tries to convince her father and the UN that the two races may have a chance of co-existing peacefully.

Alice to Zouroku (Alice and Zouroku)

Sana Kashimura, a little orphan girl who is one of the children that holds the power of “Alice’s Dream,” a special ability that enables her to materialize anything she imagines. After escaping a lab where she was a test subject, she ends up in the outside world where she encounters a grumpy old man named Zouroku, but she wonders if he will help her.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Kashimura Family”

Sana begins living her new life with Zouroku and Sanae and getting used to their daily routine. As Zouroku takes Sana to work, he cautions her not to use her powers carelessly. Sana then helps Zouroku and his assistants set up the flower arrangement for an engagement party, where she learns the concept of marriage.

Sword Art Online side-story – Gun Gale Online

This is a side story from the Sword Art Online universe, this is all new characters – no Kirito or Asuna. We follow the story of Karen Kohiruimaki, a university student with a complex about her abnormal height. She begins playing a VR game called Gun Gale Online after it gives her the cute, petit avatar that she has always wanted.

Tonight’s movie: “Squad Jam”

In the online virtual reality game, Gun Gale Online, a girl with the username Llenn participates in a team-based Squad Jam event alongside her teammate M. Taking cover, the two observe as one skilled team takes out another. Knowing that they will be the next targets.

Maho Tsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus Bride)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human magus named Elias Ainsworth. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife.

Tonight’s Episode: “Looks breed love.”

After being transformed into a fox, Chise almost runs away to the forest until Elias asks her to stay as he hates the cold when she is gone. Chise changes back to human as she likewise hates the cold. None to soon, the Leanan Sídhe needs to ask her to help save the dying Joel.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (God’s Blessing on this Beautiful World) series 2

Kazuma Satou wasn’t looking for anything beyond his simple high school shut-in existence. But one untimely death later and he finds himself before the goddess Aqua with the chance to be deposited in a fantasy kingdom that is in need of heroes to defeat a demon lord. Things don’t look good from the moment he arrives and so Kazuma decides to ditch the whole “save the world” thing and just try to become rich and live comfortably. Unfortunately, the various eccentric companions he is saddled with aren’t really helping with that goal.

Tonight’s OAV: “God’s Blessing on This Wonderful Work Of Art!”

Kazuma meets a novice adventurer called Ran who claims to be Kazuma’s fan. A quest gets proposed to Kazuma and his party infront of Ran, so Kazuma ends up accepting the quest so he looks good infront of his fan. Kazuma convinces his party to take on the quest and they all go to find a metal golem. But it leads to clues that there is another person from Japan transported to this fantasy world.

Overlord

Momonga, master of the Ainz Ooal Gown guild, was logged in to the Virtual Reality MMO Yggdrasil on the day it closed. Instead of being logged out he found his VR game had somehow become a real world that he was now trapped in. As a massively over-powered Lich Lord, there’s very little that can threaten him, so Momonga begins exploring the world surrounding his guild headquarters and meeting with its inhabitants in the hopes of finding anyone else from Earth trapped in this world with him.

Tonight’s Episode: “End and Beginning”

Yggdrasil is a Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game released in 2126 that is discontinued after 12 years of standing as the top DMMO-RPG. Momonga, guildmaster of Ainz Ooal Gown, is saddened and refusing to log out of the system, prepared to witness “his” realm, the sum of his accomplishments, until the very end. Though once in his throne room, he is not above changing the settings on some of his NPC minions in the last moments. These last moments are lasting a lot longer than expected.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Diamond is Unbreakable (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Diamond is Unbreakable)

It’s the year 1999, 11 years after Jotaro Kujo’s desperate fight against Dio in Egypt. Jotaro meets with Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of his grandfather Joseph Joestar. He discovers that Josuke also has the same “Stand” power and that a new threat is surfacing in Morioh City.

Tonight’s Episode: “Let’s Go Hunting!”

Jotaro takes Josuke with him to track down a rat that had been turned into a Stand user by Otoishi. He teaches Josuke how to fire ball bearings as a weapon to kill it. During their search, the pair discover several rat corpses that had been melted together into a gelatinous flesh cube. Investigating an abandoned house, Josuke encounters the rat, who had merged the home’s owners together in the same way. Cunning rat.
