Screening

Below is the program for August 20^th, 2016.

We are going to have a Bean Poll as to whether to continue regular screening of “Fairy Tail”, since it has been polling poorly in the monthly surveys. If you vote ‘No’, be aware that we don’t yet have a replacement regular item. We would have to vote on that the next week. The suggestion for replacement show so far are “Fairy Tail Zero”, “Bunkou: Stray Dogs” and “Sailor Moon”. Our Suggestion box is open to other ideas. I am half hoping that somebody suggests the retro series “Card Captor Sakura”.
Unfortunately this seems to have distracted people from the idea of having an auction during the Dinner Break. Do you want to bring lots of money to bid on anime-related items during the Dinner Break this Saturday?

Though if you want distractions, we are not going to have just, not even just two, but three preview episodes this week.

Synopsis

Fairy Tail second series

Magic and mayhem in the nation of Fiore. The members of the infamous mage’s guild Fairy Tail spend their days sorting out problems for the residents of Magnolia and battling the odd apocalyptic demon or dark guild. Of course they don’t let little things like that get in the way of having fun.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Welcome Back, Frosch“

We continue the Fairy Tail filler episodes. Frosch wanders off while shopping with Lector in the city and becomes lost. Rogue and other Sabertooth wizards search for the frog-suited Exceed. Meanwhile Frosch attempts to navigate his way back to the Guild. There are a lot of magicians out and about.

Flying Witch

The cheerful and pleasant Kowata Makoto has come to Aomori to complete high school. She will be boarding with her cousin Muramoto Kei. Nothing unusual there right? Well, not quite. Because Makoto isn’t the normal girl she appears to be. Makoto is a witch, and she is going to bring some of the magic of the witching world to her new home.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Day After Tomorrow is Today”

Chinatsu recounts to her mother her meeting a fox at the cafe. Inukai, the witch who had a shape-changing accident thanks to Makoto’s sister Akane, comes a visiting, and finally demonstrates her ability at fortune telling. Makoto and Chinatsu eagerly await the predictions to come true, but has Inukai interpreted the omens correctly?

retro Item from 1993 – Ah Megami-sama! OVA (Oh My Goddess! OVA)

By accidentally dialling the wrong number one afternoon, college student Keiichi Morisato is put through to the Goddess Help Line. Resulting in him being granted a single wish by the goddess Belldandy. Believing it to be a joke Keiichi wishes for Belldandy to stay with him forever, and they live happily ever after … well, not quite.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Evergreen Holy Night”

Keiichi awakens from a nightmare where Belldandy leaves him and returns to the Heavens. But was the dream prophetic? For with the 3 Goddesses on Earth, the divine system is suffering more bugs, and it appears that Belldandy may indeed be recalled.

Rokuro Enmado used to be a promising young exorcist, until one exorcism went horribly wrong. That is, until the day Benio Adashino, a young girl his own age and a powerful exorcist from the east, falls from the sky right in front of him …

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Destined Two – Boy Meets Girl

In Kyoto, Benio prepares for her trip to Tokyo, while her grandmother warns her of rumors about an exorcist with power equal to or greater than hers. She boards a train in Yokohama, only for it to be attacked by Kegare. After entering the spirit world Magano to defeat them, she exhausts her strength. Meanwhile, after running away from his friend Ryogo’s attempt to have him participate in an exorcism, Rokuro witnesses Benio suddenly appear and fall from the sky.

Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (Gate: The Self Defence Forces Fight Like This in That Place)

Youji Itami is a 33-year old otaku. He loves anime and does his best to never miss a convention or product sale. Youji is also a member of Japan’s Self Defense Force. After an invasion of Tokyo from an alternate universe, Youji’s unit is sent through the gateway to this alternate dimension to push back the invaders, taking him away from his beloved anime and manga. But maybe this won’t be all bad … because this parallel universe is straight out of a fantasy manga.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Despair and Hope

Itami and party rest at the hot springs resort, as foreign troops attempt to acquire the otherworldly visitors. Using political leverage, they have forced the Japanese SFG guards to leave. Now these special forces only have to worry about each other. And a frustrated Rory Mercury, consumed by battle-lust. Can Itami managed to return the guests safe and sound to the other side of the Gate?

In Sugomori City, high school student Katsuhira Agata spends his days getting beaten up by bullies. Not that it matters to him since Katsuhira barely feels pain, and is almost devoid of emotions. But then one day he is confronted by a strange young woman called Noriko Sonozaki who tells him that he and several of his classmates have been selected to become “Kiznaivers”, test subjects for the “Kizuna System” who will share each other’s pain as part of a grand experiment to bring about world peace.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Sometimes, a Bond Can Bloom from the First Day Eye Contact Is Made”

A vision recalls of a young girl plummeting to her apparent death as a young boy chases after her, screaming out in pain. 12 years later in Sugimori City, Katsuhira Agata is a seemingly emotionless boy who gets bullied and beaten up constantly for money, much to the disgust of his caring childhood friend Chidori Takashiro. Shortly after, as the same bullies come once again to extort his money, musclehead Hajime Tenga appears to stop them. Then a mysterious blue-haired lady, and they find themselves abducted, along with others, to a mysterious underground facility.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash)

Haruhiro awoke in this strange land with no memory of where he had come from or how he had got here. He and his companions were given little choice; serve in the militia defending the region from the various monsters or starve, and so they struggle to make a living as soldiers. There is nothing easy about this life and making ends meet is a challenge for six people who, it seems, had never held weapons before. Teamwork may be the only thing that can keep them alive, but for that they actually need to function as a team.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Her Circumstances”

The party starts to pull together after last episodes misapprehensions. Endeavouring to act nicer to their new Priest, they slowly find Merry thawing to them. But what is her background?

A few years after the events of a solar eclipse, one that foretold the coming of an angel of darkness (as seen in the Golden arc movie trilogy), a lone swordsman named Guts walks into an inn where a group of bandits is tormenting an elf named Puck and a red-haired youth. Guts trounces the thugs and takes his leave, inspiring Puck to travel with the swordsman. But evil spirits pursue him.

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (The Town Without Me)

Fujinuma Satoru is just another failed manga artist, making ends meet as a cynical pizza delivery boy. But there is one thing in his life that is genuinely extraordinary. From time to time, Satoru finds himself involuntarily transported a short distance back in time, giving him the chance to prevent an imminent disaster. He never knows exactly what he’s supposed to prevent, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. For all his cynicism Satoru wants to help others, because there is one instance from his childhood, far enough back that he barely remembers any of it, where he failed.

Kayo, along Satoru and his mother confont Kayo’s mother and try to resolve Kayo’s terrible situation. Now that he has rescued Kayo, there are two more victims of the serial killer he has the chance to save – his classmate Hiromi Sugita,and Aya Nakanishi, a student from the neighboring school. For the serial killer has removed his gear from the bus…

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Stardust Crusaders (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Stardust Crusaders)

It’s 1989. Fifty odd years have passed since Joseph Joestar did battle with the immortal Pillar Men and now his Japanese grandson, Jotaro Kujo, finds his life turned upside down. A strange new ability awakens within his bloodline, granting him great power but threatening to kill his mother.

… An ancient enemy of the family has returned.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Devil”

The Joestar team have made landfall in Singapore. Wishing to keep Anne safe until she is due to meet with her father, the Joestar group check into a hotel, with Polnareff put into his own room. Upon entering his room, Polnareff quickly encounters one of DIO’s assassins, Devo the Cursed. What looks like an easy victory for Polnareff will turn into a frantic struggle as he is tormented and tortured by the Stand known as Ebony Devil.
