Weekly Bulletin for Saturday 23rd July, 2016

Screening

Below is the program for July 23rd, 2016.

Thank you to everyone who attended the AGM last week. I hope you all found it worthwhile.

But the big surprise was the election. Hard to imagine that Paul Clune and Nathaniel Mitchell got the exact same number of votes, so we can’t yet tell who is in the committee, and who is not. You will have to come along this week and help decide. Much as we have a morbid fascination with the idea of tying them together at the wrist and giving each of them a knife, we do have to clean up the Hall at the end of the night, so a less violent election decider will have to take place.
Not to mention that we have a selection of fine anime to watch. Including a world domination preview (which somehow appeals to me), and a fine retro show from yesteryear.

Another reason to attend – we will be auctioning off good stuff during the Dinner Break. Bring Lots of Money.

Or you could use the money on the Madman Mid-Year sale. We save on postage costs if we order in bulk, and I have no idea if the club’s discount will stack with the sale.

Again we would like to thank Lotteries West, who are preparing to provide us with a grant to continue our good work.

Synopsis

Fairy Tail second series

Magic and mayhem in the nation of Fiore. The members of the infamous mage’s guild Fairy Tail spend their days sorting out problems for the residents of Magnolia and battling the odd apocalyptic demon or dark guild. Of course they don’t let little things like that get in the way of having fun.

Tonight’s Episodes:The Grand Banquet

The Eclipse Gate has been broken, generating a paradox in that Rogue could not return from the future and bring dragons from the past. At any rate, the battle is won and it is time for the magical guilds to celebrate. The Kingdom of Fiore has never had such a rambunctious party in the palace before.

Flying Witch

The cheerful and pleasant Kowata Makoto has come to Aomori to complete high school. She will be boarding with her cousin Muramoto Kei. Nothing unusual there right? Well, not quite. Because Makoto isn’t the normal girl she appears to be. Makoto is a witch, and she is going to bring some of the magic of the witching world to her new home.

Tonight’s Episodes:Café Concrucio

Makoto and friends travel up the mountain to collect wild vegetables, and scare bears. But after a tasty rustic repast, Akane suggests they visit a cafe run by a witch to have cake for dessert.

retro Item from 1993 – Ah Megami-sama! OVA (Oh My Goddess! OVA)

By accidentally dialling the wrong number one afternoon, college student Keiichi Morisato is put through to the Goddess Help Line. Resulting in him being granted a single wish by the goddess Belldandy. Believing it to be a joke Keiichi wishes for Belldandy to stay with him forever, and they live happily ever after … well, not quite.

Tonight’s Episodes:Moonlight and Cherry Blossoms

Trying to phone a takeout restaurant, Keiichi Morisato accidentally dials the “Goddess Helpline” and summons a goddess named Belldandy. Belldandy offers to grant him a single wish; Keiichi requests that Belldandy stay with him forever. The wish is approved, activating the “Ultimate Force,” which prevents them from being separated. Which proves a problem in a men-only dormitory.

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu, Season 2 (Assassination Classroom, Season 2)

The 10 billion yen bounty on the head of supersonic, tentacled schoolteacher Koro-sensei remains unclaimed. Despite the best efforts of everyone involved. The students of class 3E are still training to assassinate their teacher, in between getting an education and all sorts of valuable life lessons from him. But will they manage to do it before this overgrown, yellow octopus carries out his threat to destroy the entire world?

Tonight’s Episodes:Discord Time

Nagisa has gathered his classmates together to propose a plan – save Koro-sensei’s life. But to such highly trained assassins, such a plan is not entirely welcome. As sides are picked and battle-lines are drawn, it is Koro-sensei who suggests a solution to this divisive issue.

Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (Gate: The Self Defence Forces Fight Like This in That Place)

Youji Itami is a 33-year old otaku. He loves anime and does his best to never miss a convention or product sale. Youji is also a member of Japan’s Self Defence Force. After an invasion of Tokyo from an alternate universe, Youji’s unit is sent through the gateway to this alternate dimension to push back the invaders, taking him away from his beloved anime and manga. But maybe this won’t be all bad … because this parallel universe is straight out of a fantasy manga.

Tonight’s Episodes:Japan, Beyond the Gate

Lt Youji Itami has been summoned back to Tokyo to answer questions from the Japanese Parliament, and he has brought the refugee witnesses as well. Princess Pina has tagged along, but her visit being unofficial, will result her meeting very different people. As the visitor’s from the other side of the Gate are stunned by the strangeness and opulence before them, the general public of Japan gets to see these strangers from another dimension. Not all will be happy.

One Punch Man

Saitama is a superhero, a man of such incredibly refined fighting prowess he can defeat any opponent with a single punch. And he stands ever ready to defend the people of City A no matter what terror besets them. But when you dedicate yourself to your job so completely that your hair falls out, the last thing you want is for that job to become boring …

Tonight’s Episodes:The Modern Ninja

Societal discord strikes home at Saitama – the current group of power suited terrorists are all bald. Will Saitama, part-time hero be mistaken for a bad guy. He must stop the Paradiser terrorists before his reputation is ruined. Unfortunately a supersonic assassin has already mistaken him, and gives Saitama a terrible blow.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash)

Haruhiro awoke in this strange land with no memory of where he had come from or how he had got here. He and his companions were given little choice; serve in the militia defending the region from the various monsters or starve, and so they struggle to make a living as soldiers. There is nothing easy about this life and making ends meet is a challenge for six people who, it seems, had never held weapons before. Teamwork may be the only thing that can keep them alive, but for that they actually need to function as a team.

Tonight’s Episodes:Sky Dancing with Ash

Our trainee volunteers are becoming more successful in their goblin hunts, having earned enough to learn new skills. Perhaps they are getting a little over-confident as they practice their new skills.

Preview item – Big Order

In a world still scarred by the “Great Destruction”, Order users (people displaying supernatural powers) are widely persecuted since it is believed that a single Order user was responsible for the cataclysm a decade ago that killed half the population. Eiji Hoshimiya knows this is true, because ten years ago a floating white figure came to grant his wish. So now he hides the truth from everyone, but he can’t hide forever. Soon he will be reminded of the wish he made … a wish that was never truly granted.

Tonight’s Episodes:Order! Awaken, Evil Powers!

Eiji Hoshimiya barely attends school as he desperately tries not to use the power that Daisy granted him a decade before. In fear of being found out, he tries to look after his only surviving relative, his hospitalised sister. But people have determined that he is the one that near destroyed the world, and they are sending assassins after him.

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (The Town Without Me)

Fujinuma Satoru is just another failed manga artist, making ends meet as a cynical pizza delivery boy. But there is one thing in his life that is genuinely extraordinary. From time to time, Satoru finds himself involuntarily transported a short distance back in time, giving him the chance to prevent an imminent disaster. He never knows exactly what he’s supposed to prevent, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. For all his cynicism Satoru wants to help others, because there is one instance from his childhood, far enough back that he barely remembers any of it, where he failed.

Tonight’s Episodes:Grim Reaper

The killer is trying to burn Airi alive and frame Satoru, though Airi is ultimately rescued and kept under police guard at the hospital. Meanwhile Satoru tries to track down the killer, using an old contact of his mother.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Stardust Crusaders (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Stardust Crusaders)

It’s 1989. Fifty odd years have passed since Joseph Joestar did battle with the immortal Pillar Men and now his Japanese grandson, Jotaro Kujo, finds his life turned upside down. A strange new ability awakens within his bloodline, granting him great power but threatening to kill his mother.

… An ancient enemy of the family has returned.

Tonight’s Episodes:Silver Chariot

Dio’s next assassin, Jean Pierre Polnarof with stand Silver Chariot, seeks to slay our heroes in Hong Kong. But he is a chivalrous fellow, so will give Abdul and Magician’s Red something resembling a fighting chance to defeat him.
