Weekly Bulletin for Saturday 18th June, 2016

Event Afternoon before JAFWA screening

JAFWA has the hall from 12:30PM to 4:30PM, where it is make our own amusement time.
For next week JAFWA will take a break as so many go to attend SupaNova. Use this as a last chance to test out your cosplay costume perhaps, to guarantee that there are no wrinkles left in your performance.

Does anybody have their own game machine and games they want their fellow JAFWAites to play? JAFWA will bring out the projector and screen.

These are just a couple of suggestion. What do you want to do? Just so long as it legal, moral, and we don’t scuff the floor.

Screening

Below is the program for June 18th, 2016.

JAFWA AGM and elections are on July 16 th!
We are taking nominations for the JAFWA committee elections. Have you been a financial member for the last 3 months, a resident of WA? Then you to can nominate yourself for the election, and aim for a share in the prestige and glory.

It must be Winter, for I feel cold. We do not yet have a replacement for “Sushi Police”. Does anyone have a reasonable suggestion?
Though all is not lost. This week we start regularly screening the last of the mid-year replacement series.

Though the JAFWA screening proves to be a good port of call in this inclement weather, do not trust that your love of exciting anime will heat your blood enough. Remember to bring enough warm clothing, as the club’s heaters struggle to keep the Hall at a comfortable temperature.

Again we would like to thank Lotteries West, who are preparing to provide us with a grant to continue our good work.

But will they manage to do it before this overgrown, yellow octopus carries out his threat to destroy the entire world?

Koro-sensei, Nagisa, and Kaede help to tidy up the storage shed, reminiscing over the past year together. To the surprise of all and sundry, Kaede has developed a long term assassination and unexpectedly springs it. For it is related to Koro-sensei’s past, to his shame. And involves the entire class.

Retro Show from 2000: FLCL

12-year old Nandaba Naota lives in the city of Mabase with his widowed father and grandfather. His hometown is a fairly ordinary place, apart from the giant factory shaped like a steam iron up on the hill, where nothing special ever happens. That is until the day a woman on a Vespa scooter runs him down, revives him, and then bashes him in the head with a guitar … after that things start to get weird.

Tonight’s Episodes:Brittle Bullet

Haruko was unable to make use of Naoto’s father Kamon’s head to generate a N.O. field. But it is enough to fuel a jealous rage between the father and son over the affections of the fickle Haruko. Or perhaps her name is Raharu as Commander Amarao remembers. And what has gotten into Naoto to make him so cocky? At any rate the stage is set for excessive shooting and homages to various animations.

One Punch Man

Saitama is a superhero, a man of such incredibly refined fighting prowess he can defeat any opponent with a single punch. And he stands ever ready to defend the people of City A no matter what terror besets them. But when you dedicate yourself to your job so completely that your hair falls out, the last thing you want is for that job to become boring …

Tonight’s Episodes:The Lone Cyborg

He is bored, there is no challenge in defeating every enemy that appears before him. Saitama can can end a battle with a single punch, as easy as slapping a mosquito. Perhaps easier. Meanwhile a mysterious cyborg comes to town seeking to terminate that which has been killing farm animals. Prepare for more body-exploding combat and viscera spraying.

Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (Gate: The Self Defence Forces Fight Like This in That Place)

Youji Itami is a 33-year old otaku. He loves anime and does his best to never miss a convention or product sale. Youji is also a member of Japan’s Self Defence Force. After an invasion of Tokyo from an alternate universe, Youji’s unit is sent through the gateway to this alternate dimension to push back the invaders, taking him away from his beloved anime and manga. But maybe this won’t be all bad … because this parallel universe is straight out of a fantasy manga.

Tonight’s Episodes:To Unknown Lands

The 3rd Recon Unit has brought refugees back to the JSDF base at Alnus Hill, resulting in a bit of a bureaucratic nightmare. But it is good to soak in a hot tub, as the demi-goddess, apprentice wizard and orphaned elf try to adapt to this strange life they have been brought into. Meanwhile Princess Pina’s special forces are slowly approaching the enemy, gaining intelligence along the way.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash)

Haruhiro awoke in this strange land with no memory of where he had come from or how he had got here. He and his companions were given little choice; serve in the militia defending the region from the various monsters or starve, and so they struggle to make a living as soldiers. There is nothing easy about this life and making ends meet is a challenge for six people who, it seems, had never held weapons before. Teamwork may be the only thing that can keep them alive, but for that they actually need to function as a team.

Tonight’s Episodes:Whisper, Chant, Prayer, Awaken

Six strangers in a fantasy world struggle to defeat even a single weak goblin, barely knowing what they are doing, or who they are. And why do they occasionally speak words they do not understand, such as “video game” or “mobile phone”?

Kotetsujou no Kabaneri (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)

Ikoma is a lowly engineer in the walled city of Arawakin, one of a series of city-stations linked together by rail lines and serviced by massive, armour-plated steam trains. The reason for such lumbering transport? The Kabane. Victims of a plague that turns people into flesh-eating zombies and encases their hearts in iron. Outside the walled cities the Kabane roam the land. Within them the people are ready to slaughter any new arrival should they show the slightest hint of infection. Everyone from peasant to soldier lives in constant fear, but not Ikoma. He intends to fight back.

Tonight’s Episodes:Inescapable Darkness

The refugee train Kotetsu travels ever onwards, but supplies are limited and they need to make a scheduled stop. Unfortunately the way-station has suffered disaster, and may prove to be impassable. Though for Mumei, a reminder of her past makes her realise how soft she has become.

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (The Town Without Me)

Fujinuma Satoru is just another failed manga artist, making ends meet as a cynical pizza delivery boy. But there is one thing in his life that is genuinely extraordinary. From time to time, Satoru finds himself involuntarily transported a short distance back in time, giving him the chance to prevent an imminent disaster. He never knows exactly what he’s supposed to prevent, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. For all his cynicism Satoru wants to help others, because there is one instance from his childhood, far enough back that he barely remembers any of it, where he failed.

Tonight’s Episode:Accomplishment

Satoru is desperate to change the future, seeking to protect Kayo from her abusive mother and prevent her from being taken by the serial killer who is yet to appear. But is he changing the future, when what he thinks are changes and a new timeline, instead have so much de ja vu?

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Stardust Crusaders (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Stardust Crusaders)

… An ancient enemy of the family has returned.
