Weekly Bulletin for Saturday 30th April, 2016

Screening

Below is the program for April 30th, 2016.

It is that time of month again, when we survey the audience in their preferences in anime. It is even more important this time, as so many of our regular series are coming to an end and we need your help in deciding what shall replace these shows. There have been so many worthy candidates we have supplied as previews, so vote wisely and number the best up there. We were only intending to show 1 preview this night, but we suddenly gained access to “Flying Witch” so we snuck that in there as well.
Also, we decide whether we are going to continue to watch the final 3 episodes of “Here is Greenwood”, or do we start another retro-show. The primary candidate is “FLCL”.

And don’t forget that we also have a movie night this week, so come dressed in anime cosplay for free entry.
Are we giving you too much?

preview item – Bungou: Stray Dogs (Literary Stray Dogs)

Nakajima Atsushi didn’t get a great start in life, what with being thrown out of his orphanage and nearly starving to death on the streets. But now he’s been recruited into the Armed Detective Agency, a company staffed by people with supernatural powers who are called on to deal with cases beyond the capabilities of ordinary law enforcement… all of a sudden starving on the streets doesn’t seem quite so bad.

(Note: All the main characters in this series are named after real-life authors from both Japan and elsewhere)

Tonight’s Episodes:One Bowl of Tea on Rice

Starving on the streets, abandoned orphan Nakajima Atsushi decides to mug the next person who comes along, but ends up rescuing a would-be drowning suicide. Still he gets a free meal out of this, and all is good. Until he learns from his benefactors that they are hunting a tiger. A tiger that Atsushi knows all too well…

Yato still hasn’t fulfilled his promise to re-attach her loose soul, and it may not happen anytime soon now. Because the war god Bishamon is back, and she still has an axe to grind with Yato. And she’s not the only one looking to meddle in Yato’s affairs…

Tonight’s Episodes:Revival

Ebisu escapes the underworld but is sorely injured. Bishamon, Hiyori and Yukine manage to track down Yato because of the vent Ebisu created, but they have no way of getting into the underworld. Meanwhile, Izanami continues to pursue Yato…

Movie – Sarusuberi (Miss Hokusai)

It is 1814 and the city of Edo is one of the most populated cities in the world, home to peasants, samurai, townsmen, merchants, nobles, artists, courtesans, and maybe even supernatural beings. Two residents are the highly accomplished artist Tetsuzo and his talented 23-year-old daughter O-Ei. Tetsuo gains worldwide acclaim as Katsushika Hokusai, but few would know “Miss Hokusai”, the daughter who assisted him uncredited.

Sarusuberi is the Japanese name for the crape myrtle tree, whose flowers remain in bloom for a long time, is called by bonsai enthusiasts as “hyakujitsuko” which literally means blooming for 100 days. However, sarusuberi can also be written with the characters ???, where ? (saru) means “monkey” and ?? (suberi) means slide–hence “monkey jump”, which is thought to be reminiscent of the shape of a crape myrtle, or perhaps refers to the smooth, slippery bark.

Sidonia no Kishi: Daikyuu Wakusei Seneki (Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine)

The colony ship Sidonia continues its journey through the region of space controlled by the titanic and almost indestructible Gauna. Ace pilot, and former scavenger, Nagate Tanikaze now leads the defence of his home, aided by an upgraded arsenal of weapons for the Gardes mecha that he and the other pilots fly. But it is still a dangerous task, and the Gauna may not be the only problem. The immortal leaders of Sidonia’s populace have their own power struggles and plans for the ship and its population. And there is also the fragment of a Gauna kept in Sidonia’s research lab … which took the shape of Tanikaze’s deceased fellow pilot Shizuka.

Tonight’s Episodes:Duty

Nagate and Izana visit the Thousand-Year Village, awed by its cherry blossoms and other natural attractions, while Yuhata and Tsumugi search for a way to spy on them. Nagate is unaware that Izana’s grandmother has set he and Izana up. Meanwhile, Sidonia arrives at the Lem Star System; in order secure a foothold on planet Lem IX, a reconnaissance party of four pilots using the experimental Hayakaze Armor is prepared

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken (JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure)

The Joestar’s are a wealthy English family, but one with a dark fate. Ever since the days of Jonathon Joestar and his adopted brother Dio Brando, and the succession struggle that came about from Dio’s greed, the Joestar family line has found itself embroiled in supernatural horror and world-threatening ambition. And it always falls to the current Jojo, whoever it may be, to stop the madness.

Tonight’s Episodes:The Ties that Bind Jojo

Being forced to cling onto a rope to stop Lisa Lisa from falling to her death, Joseph is at a huge disadvantage against Kars. Feeling he has a plan, Joseph sets his scarf on fire, stating he will finish Kars off before it fully burns. Meanwhile Major Stroheim and Speedwagon mop up the lowly vampires.

Death Parade

The Quindecim is a bar, accessible only by a pair of elevators. Within this stately and impressive establishment the bar is tended by a man known as Decim, with the assistance of a small but skilled staff. No one comes here alone, and no one remembers how they ended up here … at first. But the result is always the same; the guests must play a game against each other, and the stakes could not be higher.

Tonight’s Episode:Memento Mori

Ginti gives Mayu the choice to choose another human soul to be sent into the void in exchange for Harada regaining his. Meanwhile, Decim, who recalls how he first met Chiyuki, asks her to perform some ice skating, having noticed it was a large part of her memories.
