Saturday 31st March, 2012

JAFWA has a separate Event afternoon running in the same hall from 12:30 to 4:30. It is make your own fun, but we suspect some people will be bringing semi-automatic nerf weaponry, mahjong, video games and even sewing. Try making a Cosplay costume for the evening!

After the Event Afternoon, the tentative JAFWA program for Saturday 31st March 2012 is below. To be held in the Collins Street Community Center on Collins Street just off Canning Highway in South Perth.

Things of Note:
1) Movie Night! We are showing the latest Full Metal Alchemist movie in the evening after the Event afternoon. There is a chance that all this goodness may have to be balanced by some evil.
2) Only one person indicated they were interested in the idea that JAFWA try re-instating a pizza run fot the new $5 Mia Pizzas.
3) Because Swancon and Easter are on the weekend of April 7 this year, Westlodge is wanting to do their session on afternoon of April 14 before JAFWA. In fact they are asking if they could get about 30 minutes of our session so that they can finish up. So JAFWA will be a little short that evening. But we are looking to make it a themed night rather than a regular program. So please give us suggestions as to what them we should go with (Note JAFWA is mostly family friendly, so don’t even bother with any adults only theme)
We have received the suggestion “Ninjas – but not Naruto”

Dale’s Suggestive Remarks, based on suggestion sheets handed in at JAFWA:
From 24 March 2012 entitled “Idea for theme night“:

Ninjas = but not Naruto

Aha!
Finally a suggestion regarding what we might screen on April 14. For those of you who aren’t aware, JAFWA is having an abbreviated session that night due to Westlodge using the Hall into our normal time. Thus JAFWA is thinking rather than do a normal screening program for that evening, we could instead try a themed anime night.

So many of you youngsters seem to think anime, or at least ninja themed anime, starts and ends with Naruto. Now an opportunity to prove otherwise.
Off the top of my head there is the following ninja related animes:

  • 2×2 Shinobuden
  • Basilisk
  • Ninku
  • Ninja Scroll
  • Ninja Resurrection
  • Jubei-chan

not to mention that ninjas featured as characters in so many samurai shows. For instance KatanaGatari.
And who can forget SBS screening TV episodes of Banzuke (though occasionally we might like to forget)

So many choices. But we don’t have to limit ourselves to a ninja theme. One of our young ladies confided to me that she hoped there could be more shojo anime screened, though she did not have any example titles. That would not be a problem as we could screen episodes of the following:

  • Sailor Moon
  • Card Captor Sakura
  • Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
  • Pretear
  • Magic Knights Rayearth
  • Revolutionary Girl Utena
  • X
  • Princess Tutu

to name but a few

So, what anime theme do you want?

All the goodness must be balanced by a little evil
